3. Reflections upon feedback:
As you can tell from the previous slide
we received some feedback from our
fellow class mates on our rough cut ‘By
Chance’. Focusing on some points in
particular such as mise en scene and
some criticisms which helped us in
order to know what improvements
needed to be made before submitting
our final piece.
To begin with due to the qualities and elements that are included in mise en scene it means
that it was easy for the audience to be able to discover the genre of our piece and in doing
so we portrayed it well. On the other hand a criticism we received was that within certain
shots sections needed to be cropped out as it affected the professionalism of the piece and
was distracting, for example a leg of the box light may have been seen. Not only this but
certain areas of sound needed to be adjusted to suit what was happening at that specific
time either being diegetic or non diegetic.
4. How this feedback helped:
By receiving this feedback it meant that we could adjust and adapt on our
opening sequence so that we submitted something to the best it could be. We
could gain someone else’s perspective other than ours that would have fresh eyes
when watching and would know what worked and what didn’t.
From this we then went on to organizing the feedback and highlighting what we
thought also needed to change, overall only making subtle adjustments. Shot by
shot we went through and paid close attention to what was seen in the shot,
therefore when we came across something such as the box light leg we could crop
it out, however making sure the image did not look pixelated or out of
proportion. In terms of sound, mainly improvements needed to be made on the
background noise during the continuity scene at the end. To resolve this we
muted the natural sound that occurred when filming which was the cars passing
as it was too overpowering and added in a subtle wind affect to make it seem
more natural alternatively. When approaching the match on action of myself
walking up the steps we made the volume louder so that the sound of the leaves
crunching on my feet was emphasized to add more dimension and affect, similar
to what is done within several films.
6. In depth look at these comments:
This is the feedback gained from our final piece on ‘By Chance’. Overall mainly
positive feedback was attributed, however in terms of the comment on the
ending finishing fairly promptly my group do understand where they are
coming from and how this may be perceived. But we did not want our opening
looking too similar to a trailer and showing what will follow through in the rest
of the film, not only this but by ending it on almost a cliffhanger it leaves the
audience questioning what may happen next making them want to watch
further in the future.
7. My opinion :
I believe that our piece ‘By Chance’ had many strengths however
with this also comes certain aspect of weakness. To begin with I
believe we did create a conventional teen drama that would
attract our target audience of 16 year old girls, we done this
through the upbeat music and the color chosen within the titles
of the opening. In contrast to this I do feel like we could have
expanded on the storyline within the continuity section to show
the sisters together so the audience gain a greater idea of the
bond they have. However reasoning behind this was that we did
not want to over complicate the start which could confuse the
audience in the long run. To conclude I am very proud of what
we produced and how we created a teen drama.
