EVALUATION QUESTION 3
Matt Leesley
COMING UP WITH THE STORYLINE TO OUR FILM
• As a group, we discussed what ideas we had and who’s was the
best, we couldn’t decide which one seemed the best idea so we
merged them together to create the one we have come up with.

understood it, we handed out a questionnaire to 20 people
around Barnsley College from the ages 16 to 21.

STORYLINE?

ROUGH CUT OF FILM QUESTIONNAIRE
• We had just completed a full rough cut of our film and wanted to
see what people thought and find areas we could improve on.
Things missing from the film was end credits, transitions and
music. As before, we asked 20 people from Barnsley College from
the same ages as before, 16-21 to keep the results continuous.
QUESTION 1: WHAT GENRE WOULD YOU SAY THIS
FILM IS?
8 out of 20 people said they thought this film was a
thriller whilst 7 thought it was a comedy, 3 out of 20
thought action and 2 thought is was a drama.
We were pleased with information as the majority
say it’s a Thriller, the other results are good as well
as we aimed to give our film a comedy edge and
drama/action can easily tie into the thriller genre.

QUESTION 2: WHAT AGE RATING WOULD YOU
GIVE THIS FILM?
10 out of 20 people said they thought the film
should be rated 12a. This was good for us as we
used the BBFC website to certify our film correctly.
The other 10 out of the 20 people said it should be
a 15 or over. The violence in the film and the
swearing could suggest why people said this.
We feel like we have rated our film correctly due
to the research we completed.

QUESTION 3: WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU
THINK WOULD FIT THE BEST?
9 out of 20 people thought rock music would be
the best. During chase scenes this would be
effective because of the intensity of the scenes.
The rest of the results were mixed so we
thought to use a mix, for example, indie and pop.
This gives our film a better chance to please a
wider audience.

OF THE FILM?

means that it was easy enough for the audience
to be able to follow along with our film.

storyline but on the majority vote people did.

maybe if these 3 people were to watch it again,
they would understand.

QUESTION 5: DID YOU ENJOY THE PLOT TWIST?
15 out of the 20 people said they enjoyed the
plot as they were waiting for something to
happen throughout the film and when it did it
was unexpected. We was unsure whether to use
the plot twist but the results on our
questionnaire confirmed this decision for us.
15
5
Yes
No
QUESTION 6: IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN
THINK OF THAT MAY IMPROVE THE FILM?
A few suggestions we received included we add a voiceover or
narration to keep a flow to the film and to help explain to audiences
what was happening if they didn’t know already.
Another idea was brought forward that we add a range of music and
more music to once again keep the film flowing and to give it a more
entertaining viewing.
Finally we was told that our transitions could be changed to be more
neater and seeming less. Doing so would make our film look more
professional and better quality.
In our final film, I think that we changed and edited to the results we
got and made a good quality film to submit.
FINAL FILM QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS
We asked the question “What would you rate our film out of 5” The results we got
were fair and positive but the standard of work we submitted.
“I would rate this film 4 out of 5 because it was quite professional for a student
film and the story was attention-grabbing, however there's always room for
improvement”
“I would give this film a 3 out of 5 because overall it was intriguing but there could
have been improvements in terms of adding more interesting scenes to boost the
thriller aspect”
“I give this short film a 4 out of 5 because I enjoy watching fast paced films
because they boost my adrenaline”
“I’d give this film a 3 out of 5 because it’s more different that the typical
mainstream films you see at the cinema, however the story seems bland it could
have had more factors such as an extra plot line”
FINAL FILM QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS
To finish off our questions, we asked if the viewer would recommend our
film for others to watch.
A large majority of people said they would recommend it as we both follow
and challenge the typical thriller genre and its an interesting watch.
