1. A production company finances a film.
Normally and independent film producer
will bring the product to a studio which
they will then decide to ‘house’ the film.
The production
company can
then also control
distribution and
therefore
generate a
larger profit
from the film.
Normally, films are financed by
subsidiary companies which are
parented (owned) by multinational
conglomerates such as Time Warner.
A distributor is a
company that
acquires the
rights to a film.
They decide how
many prints of
the film should be
made and which
exhibitors it is
released to.
The distributor is
normally parented by
the same
multinational
conglomerate as the
production company.
This is so the parent
company can have
vertical integration;
therefore, gaining
maximum profit from
the film. This is such
as Lionsgate UK is a
subsidiary
distribution company
to Lionsgate Films;
this is a film division
of Lions Gate
Entertainment.
Lionsgate Premiere is also
a film distribution
company, a division of its
parent company
Lionsgate.
This company could
distribute our film as it is a
British film production
company, NightTime
Productions’ and could
benefit from being
produced by a British
distribution company. This
would work as it also has
an overarching parent
company that could help
with the distribution costs.
They would then also
benefit from the profit.
Until The End
The money
to create a
film like ours
could
potentially
come from a
variety of
sources. This
could include
Government
support, the
British Film
council or
broadcasters.
The British Film Council
help British film makers
promote their films to
overseas and
international partners.
They help develop film
products, including
contemporary, edgy
British short films,
which may then be
shown to international
partners. Filmmakers
and expert film
industry specialists
represent the UK
abroad.
The people named in the titles have
been shown so the audience can see
what job role they had in the making of
the film opening.
The audience firstly sees the production company name, this is because this is a common convention in
most, if not all, film openings. Then the actors names appear when there character is on screen. This is
to entice the audience into watching the film because they may know the actors in it or want to know
their names for future reference. We then put in other main roles that we thought were necessary for
the audience to see: the director, Script writer, camerawork, music and editing people were all named.
This is so the audience can understand who else was involved in the production of the film opening, and
not just the actors who were in it. The final text the audience sees in the opening is the name of the film
‘Until The End,’ this is to signify the film opening has finished and the main film is about to start. I think
this order is suitable as it was logical and in a simple sequence to follow.
Vertigo Films is a British
film production and
distribution company
which could distributed
my film. Their parent
company is Vertigo
Records; their parent
company is Universal
Music Group , an
American- French
worldwide music
corporation. These films
are all similar
institutionally through
their genres; therefore,
making it suitable for this
company to distribute my
film.
‘The Business’ is

thriller
distributed by

‘The Escapist’ is a crime,
drama, thriller produced and
distributed by Vertigo Films.
‘Pusher’ is a crime,
