3. MASTHEAD
Elephant font – Bold – Big - Capital letters – behind
the main image - at the top of the magazine –
stands out from the background – eye catching.
4. MAIN IMAGE
My image is a medium close up which is a
common convention. – single image – links to
main story - the image creates a relationship
with the audience and draws them in – full face
lighting follows conventional lighting – my model
used in the photo is around the same age as my
target audience which makes it more relatable
and interesting – the facial expression which
adds mystery
5. ANCHOR TEXT
Artist name – bold – entices fans – main
story is evolved around them – stands out
on background – bold colour.
7. PULL QUOTES
Pull quotes draw in the readers – created questions
and engagements – connects with the main image.
8. FLASH
Stands out from background – not keeping with
the house style theme – draws in the audience –
informative – bold
9. ISSUE NUMBER AND BARCODE
Regular and up to date – placed towards the top
of the page so it is seen first - bold but smaller
than the masthead – typically used on front
cover – I did not put the barcode and issue
number in the same box as I was chanllenging
the typical conventions by doing this.
11. IMAGE
The image I used is very big and bold on the
page this is contrasting against a typical
magazine contents page, - I felt like this this is
more eye catching and draws the reader in -
billboard magazine use this type of layout – the
writing is all the same size – agency FB font.
Similar contents pages Typical music contents
12. MASTHEAD

heavy font – tells audience what the page is – stands
out from background – is not placed in a typical place
as it challenges the conventions.

14. LAYOUT
• I challenged the regular conventions with my double page spread by adding in two of the same
image but fading one out this made the page look more effective and stand out also it is very
different and is not commonly seen in many magazines.
• The text is laid out like most magazines in columns and is all the same size the text is put in
columns so it is clear and easy to read.
• The quote and anchor text are bold as the whole page is about the artist.
Similar double page spreads to mine
The anchor text in this
billboard spread is the
same as mine.
This NME magazine
spread ahs the same
columns as my
magazine
15. IMAGE
My double page spread I used
two of the same image but
faded one out so that it is in the
background of the text, I used
a long shot as the artist is
sitting down again this is
challenging the conventions
and not many magazines use
this type of image.
I used direct mode of address
as this connects the artist and
the reader as this draws them
in and makes them want to
read more of the magazine.
Similar images to mine
In this billboard picture
the artist is on the floor
however the layout is
very different
16. TEXT
The text in my magazine is very basic
as it is in columns this makes it easier
for the reader to see, the anchor text is
bold and is in Bodoni MT this stands out
from the background. The quote and
pull line is smaller than the anchor text
but still stands out form the other text
this then stands out to the reader and
draws them in.

text as my

17. ARTIST NAME
I did not use a title on my double page spread
but I used the artist name which was the
biggest and boldest text on the page this
entices the fans and is placed in the upper
right hand corner where it will be easily
noticed by the reader.
18. COLUMNS
The columns are a conventional
theme in all magazines I used this so
it is clear and easy for the audience
to read, it looks more professional
and neat is commonly used in most
magazines that I researched.
