3. MASTHEAD
Bold Elephant font, capital letters to stand out to
the audience, behind the main image. Masthead
located at the top of the magazine sticking with
codes and conventions, stands out from the
background, eye catching, name instantly
associated to music.
4. MAIN IMAGE
My image is a medium close up which used
direct mode of address this created personal
relationship with the audience. The type of shot I
chose is a common convention. The image
entices fans into finding out more. full face
lighting follows the conventional theme, the
model used in the photo is around the same age
as my target audience (17-25)which makes it
more relatable and interesting The facial
expression used by the artist creates mystery as
it is nonchalant
5. ANCHOR TEXT
artist name is in a bold font to stand out to
the audience which for fills needs ( uses&
grats) slightly overlaps the image, entices
fans. main story is evolved around them .
stands out on background as in contrast to
one another .
6. FEATURES
Gives an incite on what else is included inside the
magazine. Informs reader ( uses & grats), stands out
because it is In contrast to the background, bold
elephant style font, uses of ( plugs) to hook the
audience and boost the status of my magazine
7. PULL QUOTES
“ the only limit is you” make the readers what to read
and find out more about why the artist is saying this.
This quote draws the audience in and creates
questions. In my pull quote I used red to make the
word stand out as red is associated with danger and
risk. I used light grey which contrasts with the dark
background. The short quote makes it interesting and
grabs the readers attention.
8. FLASH
Full preview entice the audience as they feel that
they are getting an exclusive preview to the 55
albums that define Q5.
By using the black circle shape this represents a
full stop this is showing to reader that they should
stop and look, this big circle also stands out from
the background because it is a bold block of
colour.
I chose white writing as it is in contrast to the
background but also as it is the only white text
this stands out to the reader.
9. ISSUE NUMBER AND BARCODE
Regular and up to date so it attracts the
audience that are frequent byers that this is the
newest magazine. placed towards the top of the
page so it is seen first however this is not a
typical convention however, a barcode is
typically used on front cover.
I did not add the date and issue number in with
the barcode as I wanted to challenge the typical
conventions.
11. IMAGE
The image I used is a long shot of the artist this
shows the majority of the artist body, which can
enable the audience to connect with the body
language and clothing, this also takes up a lot of
the page. Most magazines I looked into used
more than one picture as this is more
conventional. I chose to challenge the
conventions by using just one image since
looking into vibe magazine my contents page is
very similar to this magazine and this is what I
wanted to achieve some similar pages are shown
below…
12. MASTHEAD
The masthead on my contents page is bold so
that it draws in the audience and stands out,
the bold text also tells the reader what that
page is.
Lies at the top right hand corner of the page,
the lettering is placed in this because it is
different and is challenging the typical codes
and conventions.
I looked into vibe magazine which uses this
type of layout shows below.
14. LAYOUT
• I challenged the regular conventions with my double page spread by adding in two of the same
image but fading one out this made the page look more effective and stand out also it is very
different and is not commonly seen in many magazines.
• The text is laid out like most magazines in columns and is all the same size the text is put in
columns so it is clear and easy to read.
• The quote and anchor text are bold as the whole page is about the artist.
Similar double page spreads to mine
The anchor text in this
billboard spread is the
same as mine.
This NME magazine
spread ahs the same
columns as my
magazine
15. IMAGE
For my double page spread I decided
to use two of the same image but I
faded one out so that it is in the
background of the text this made the
page look more busy and effective also
it is not commonly used which makes
my magazine stand out from others. I
used a long shot as the artist is sitting
down again this is challenging the
conventions and not many magazines
use this type of image a long shot
shows the artist body language and
clothing which my target audience can
relate too.
I used direct mode of address as this
connects the artist and the reader as
this draws them in and makes them
want to read more of the magazine.
Similar images to mine
In this billboard picture
the artist is on the floor
however the layout is
very different
16. ARTIST NAME
I did not use a title on my double page spread
however, I used the artist name which was
the biggest and boldest text on the page this
entices the fans and draws them in it is
placed in the upper right hand corner where
it will be easily noticed by the reader. It also
tells the reader who the article is about.
17. COLUMNS
The columns used in the double page
spread are a conventional theme in
all magazines I chose to stick to the
theme as it is clear and easy for the
audience to read, it looks more
professional and neat, after doing
research all the magazines that I was
looking into used this theme as well.
