INTRODUCTION
Lakes are very important source of water for various purposes. The limnological study is useful to understand the
freshwater aquatic ecosystem. By studying the physicochemical parameters one can know whether the quality of
water is supporting the life or not in particular water body Several researchers has done the work on such aspects.
Parikh et al., 2012 studied the Limnology of Sama Pond, Vadodara City, and Significant seasonal variation was
observed during the study for various parameters which was compared for different sites. The results were correlated
to external influences and human interference “Physicochemical Analysis of Water from Various Sources was done
to see the water quality in Ahmedabad, was carried out by Shukla et al., (2013). They obseved that the variations of
the physicochemical properties of water samples directly influence the biotic communities and primary productivity
of the water bodies at different areas of Ahmedabad. Seasonal variations in Physico-chemical characteristics of
Nirmal Lake, Vasai, Dist. Thane, Maharashtra, India, was done by Jadhav et al., (2013). They observed that
seasonal variations at four different sites of the lake were observed. Sewage drains, cloth washing, bathing of
animals, agro-waste with pesticides residue and rituals waste drains into the lake may result into the change in
physico-chemical characteristics of lake water.
The results revealed that the condition of this lake in month wise analysis showed fluctuations in physico-chemical
parameters. Study of Seasonal Influence on Physicochemical Parameters of Yelahanka Lake Water of Banglore was
done Narayanaswamy and Ramachandra (2014). Study of Physicochemical parameters has great importance to
know the quality of water. Many researchers have done the work on that. Mirza et al., (2013) studied Spatial and
Temporal Fluctuations in the Physico-Chemical Limnology of Mangla Dam in Pakistan. Rehman et al., (2014)
studied temporal variation of physicochemical parameters in Kaptai Lake in Bangladesh. Ghosh Suparna and Salla
Sreenivasa (2014), had carried out limnological studies of Lower lake of Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh, India. Dalvi
and Rajanna (2014), has studied the Biodiversity of Phytoplankton and Physicochemical water analysis in Fort lake
of Belgaon (Karnataka). From their study they concluded that water of Fort lake is polluted by organic waste and is
not suitable for drinking purpose but can be utilized for fish culturing and recreational purpose.

The study of flora and fauna of Siliserh Lake in Rajsthan with special reference to Bio –Chemical Characteristic was
carried out by Khinchi et al., (2015). Qureshimatva and Solanki (2015), studied the Physico-chemical parameters of
water in Bibi lake, Ahmedabad, Gujrat, India. Qureshimatva et al., (2015). Determine the physicochemical
parameters and water quality Index (WQI) of Chandlodia lake, Ahmedabad, Gujrat, Sivalingam et al., (2016), studied
monthly variation, percentage composition and diversity of zooplankton while doing the research on the density and
diversity of zooplankton in Itikyal freshwater lakes in Adilabad district of Telangana. Simon et al., (2013), studied
Physical and Chemical Limnology of three lakes within Hoosier National forest. Physicochemical parameters and
Biodiversity of Freshwater algae in Kanbargi lake of Belagavi (Karnataka) were studied by Dalvi and Rajanna
(2015).
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Water samples were collected from the Jamthadi lake in Sangamner Taluka, Dist: Ahemadnagar (M.S.), India (Figure
1), the months of August, September, December, January and March . The temperature was recorded by using
thermometer; pH was recorded by using Hanna pen pH meter. The oxygen was fixed by using Winkler’s reagent in
DO bottles. Other water parameters were estimated by using method given by Maiti (2011). Observations were done
for presence of fauna in these lakes. Water samples were also collected and observed for the presence of
Zooplanktons.

DISCUSSION
From the results it is observed that in various seasons’ physicochemical parameters and the biota varies. These are in
accordance with the work done by other researchers elsewhere. Hydro-biological studies on freshwater reservoir of
Saurashtra, Gujarat, India was done by Bhadja and Vaghela 2013. They concluded that the water is not highly
polluted, but the variations in physico-chemical parameters were observed as seasonally. The recorded range of
physico-chemical parameters were within the maximum permissible limit. Water quality assessment and Biodiversity
study of Phytoplanktons in Angol Water body of Belagavi(Karnataka)was carried out by Dalvi and Ranjanna (2015).
From their study they concluded that Angol water body is less polluted by organic waste and is unfit for drinking
purpose but can be utilized for re-creation activities, domestic usage, agriculture and fish rearing. No pollution was
observed as there were no human interventions, anthropological activities like bathing, washing of cloths and utensils
or vehicles like tractors or other vehicles. It is suggested that this lake can be developed as tourist place for recreation
activities along with its use for agriculture and for drinking for livestock. This can boost the environmental tourism in
rural area.

India. 3 Department of Zoology, D.B.F. Dayanand College of Arts and Science, Solapur (M.S.), India. 4 Department of Ichthyobiology, Fisheries and Aquaculture Biotechnology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Warsaw, Poland. ABSTRACT For sustainable use of surface water resources like lakes its limnological study is important. In the present study water samples were collected from Jamthadi lakes. The physicochemical parameters like Alkalinity, Acidity, Dissolved oxygen, CO2, Hardness, pH and temperature were studied. The water samples from Jamthadi showed alkalinity in the range of 72 mg/l to 299 mg/l. It was lowest 72 mg/l in the month of March and highest in December i.e.299 mg/l, acidity was found in the range of 43 mg/lit to 68mg/lit, dissolved oxygen was in the range of 7.1 mg/l to 9.1 mg/l. Carbon di Oxide was in the range of 26.4 to 55mg/l. . Hardness was found in the range of 40mg/l to 140mg/l pH was in the range of 6.2 to 7.5. Temperature was 30 0 C throughout the study. Various aquatic flora and fauna were observed. KEYWORDS: Limnology, Seasonal variations, INTRODUCTION Lakes are very important source of water for various purposes. The limnological study is useful to understand the freshwater aquatic ecosystem. By studying the physicochemical parameters one can know whether the quality of water is supporting the life or not in particular water body Several researchers has done the work on such aspects. Parikh et al., 2012 studied the Limnology of Sama Pond, Vadodara City, and Significant seasonal variation was observed during the study for various parameters which was compared for different sites. The results were correlated to external influences and human interference “Physicochemical Analysis of Water from Various Sources was done to see the water quality in Ahmedabad, was carried out by Shukla et al., (2013). They obseved that the variations of the physicochemical properties of water samples directly influence the biotic communities and primary productivity of the water bodies at different areas of Ahmedabad. Seasonal variations in Physico-chemical characteristics of Nirmal Lake, Vasai, Dist. Thane, Maharashtra, India, was done by Jadhav et al., (2013). They observed that seasonal variations at four different sites of the lake were observed. Sewage drains, cloth washing, bathing of animals, agro-waste with pesticides residue and rituals waste drains into the lake may result into the change in physico-chemical characteristics of lake water. The results revealed that the condition of this lake in month wise analysis showed fluctuations in physico-chemical parameters. Study of Seasonal Influence on Physicochemical Parameters of Yelahanka Lake Water of Banglore was done Narayanaswamy and Ramachandra (2014). Study of Physicochemical parameters has great importance to know the quality of water. Many researchers have done the work on that. Mirza et al., (2013) studied Spatial and Temporal Fluctuations in the Physico-Chemical Limnology of Mangla Dam in Pakistan. Rehman et al., (2014) studied temporal variation of physicochemical parameters in Kaptai Lake in Bangladesh. Ghosh Suparna and Salla Sreenivasa (2014), had carried out limnological studies of Lower lake of Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh, India. Dalvi and Rajanna (2014), has studied the Biodiversity of Phytoplankton and Physicochemical water analysis in Fort lake of Belgaon (Karnataka). From their study they concluded that water of Fort lake is polluted by organic waste and is not suitable for drinking purpose but can be utilized for fish culturing and recreational purpose.

Qureshimatva and Solanki (2015), studied the Physico-chemical parameters of water in Bibi lake, Ahmedabad, Gujrat, India. Qureshimatva et al., (2015). Determine the physicochemical parameters and water quality Index (WQI) of Chandlodia lake, Ahmedabad, Gujrat, Sivalingam et al., (2016), studied monthly variation, percentage composition and diversity of zooplankton while doing the research on the density and diversity of zooplankton in Itikyal freshwater lakes in Adilabad district of Telangana. Simon et al., (2013), studied Physical and Chemical Limnology of three lakes within Hoosier National forest. Physicochemical parameters and Biodiversity of Freshwater algae in Kanbargi lake of Belagavi (Karnataka) were studied by Dalvi and Rajanna (2015). MATERIALS AND METHODS Water samples were collected from the Jamthadi lake in Sangamner Taluka, Dist: Ahemadnagar (M.S.), India (Figure 1), the months of August, September, December, January and March . The temperature was recorded by using thermometer; pH was recorded by using Hanna pen pH meter. The oxygen was fixed by using Winkler’s reagent in DO bottles. Other water parameters were estimated by using method given by Maiti (2011). Observations were done for presence of fauna in these lakes. Water samples were also collected and observed for the presence of Zooplanktons. B C Figure 1. DISCUSSION From the results it is observed that in various seasons’ physicochemical parameters and the biota varies. These are in accordance with the work done by other researchers elsewhere. Hydro-biological studies on freshwater reservoir of Saurashtra, Gujarat, India was done by Bhadja and Vaghela 2013. They concluded that the water is not highly polluted, but the variations in physico-chemical parameters were observed as seasonally. The recorded range of physico-chemical parameters were within the maximum permissible limit. Water quality assessment and Biodiversity study of Phytoplanktons in Angol Water body of Belagavi(Karnataka)was carried out by Dalvi and Ranjanna (2015). From their study they concluded that Angol water body is less polluted by organic waste and is unfit for drinking purpose but can be utilized for re-creation activities, domestic usage, agriculture and fish rearing. No pollution was observed as there were no human interventions, anthropological activities like bathing, washing of cloths and utensils or vehicles like tractors or other vehicles. It is suggested that this lake can be developed as tourist place for recreation activities along with its use for agriculture and for drinking for livestock. This can boost the environmental tourism in rural area. ACKNOWLEDGMENT Authors are thankful to Hon. Principal Dr. K. K. Deshmukh, S. N. Arts, D. J. Malpani Commerce and B. N.
