For public awareness on 2019 nCoV (CoVID) by Biplov Thapa professional health care assistant. Novel corona virus is a large family virus belongs to the family Coronaviride. corona virus outbreak became as a public health emergency of international concern.

3. Fig; Corona Virus
Coronaviruses (CoV) are large family viruses that causes illness
ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such
as SARS, MERS etc.
A Novel Coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain, linear single
stranded RNA virus named as “2019 Novel Coronavirus” that
has not been previously identified in humans.

5. Background:
The epidemic of “2019 Novel Coronavirus” was started from
Wuhan city of china on December-08, 2019, has infected
more than people than the Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome Corona Viruses(SARS- COV) and the Middle East
Respiratory Syndrome corona viruses (MERS CoV) combined.

6. This was soon found to be significantly genetically related to
SARS CoV & other bat viruses. The initial cases were
associated with a seafood market in Wuhan. This suggested a
possible animal reservoir for this virus & suggested zoonotic
transmission i.e. Anthropozoonosis.
Later on, environmental samples obtained from the market
were found to be positive for 2019 nCoV. However, whilst the
viruses was found to have originally started among infected
animals . Most of subsequently reported cases were shown to
be caused by human to human transmission.

8. Beta corona viruses have caused major epidemics in the last 2
decades. In 2003 SARS CoV was discovered in china before
spreading globally, infecting 8098 people and killing 774. this
was found to be in zoonotic in origin & thought to have
started amongst a bat reservoir before infecting wild civet cats
& raccoon dogs that were being sold at live wild animal
markets destined fir human consumption.
In 2012, MERS CoV was discovered in Saudi Arabia before also
spreading globally resulting in 2506 confirmed cases & killing
862 people world wide. Again this started as zoonotic virus,
shown to move from camels to human & again thought to
have initially emerged from bats.

9. How does Corona Virus transmits ??
There is clear evidence of human to human transmission,
possibly involving different MOT such as Direct Contact &
Droplet infection.

Treatment:
Specific treatment is still not available.
13. WHO recommended clinical management of
severe acute respiratory infections when 2019
nCov is suspected :
1. Triage
2. Immediate implementation of IPC measures
3. Early supportive therapy & monitoring
4. Collection of specimen for laboratory diagnosis
5. Management of hypoxemic respiratory failure & ARDS
6. Management of septic shock
7. Prevention of complications
8. Specific anti- nCoV treatment
9. Special consideration for pregnant women

15. Current status:
As of Feburary-08, Saturday 34,816 cases of 2019 Novel
corona virus have been confirmed globally. The number of
confirmed cases of 2019nCov in China stands at 34,546 with
722 deaths. Outside China, 270 cases have been confirmed in
25 different countries with one case fatality in Philippines.

17. The epidemic rages on with an average of 2000 new cases
reported daily but on Friday, WHO said there had been fewer
reported infections in China in the past two days.
The WHO also released new data from 17,000 patients that
suggested 82% had a mild form of the disease, with 15%
considered severe cases & 3% critical.
