Foley media 2
1. Foley is the reproduction of every day sounds that are added
into films and other media productions to accentuate the audio
quality. The reproduced sounds can be anything from breaking
of glass, footsteps to squeaky doors. By using Foley helps
create a sense of realistic atmosphere within the production.
They do this by recreating realistic ambient sounds that the
film uses.
2. Foley was first developed in the
1920’s as a range of live sound
effects to be used on broadcast of
radio drama. Due to having no
effective recording methods during
those times, all sounds for the
radio play had to be created. Jack
Donovan Foley was the creator of
this invention and during the
1914’s had joined universal studios,
later on joining the sound crew
where he helped develop ‘Foley’
where he projected the film onto a
screen and recorded single tracks
of audio sounds that could not be
heard.

3. Within the group we have discussed using Foley and have decided that
it is a useful method and tool for when dialogue or sounds are not
clearly being projected in our opening sequence. We have thought
about using Foley for recreating sounds such as the wind or rustling of
the bushes for our setting in the park. We have also thought about
using Foley for the footsteps and ambient sounds of where we will be
filming out opening sequence. We believe as a group that by using
Foley will help create a more realistic feel to our film therefore will help
increase the tense atmosphere we are looking to give off with out
thriller film.
