 The reproduction of everyday sound effects
added to visuals to enhance audio quality.
 Most sounds we hear in films that isn’t
dialogue or soundtrack, is a sound effect.
From clothes rustling to doors shutting to
footsteps and gunshots, these sounds are
created by foley artists deliberately placed
there by the sound editor. The sounds are
either went out and recorded or selected
from a library – even possibly layered with
other sounds or altered in pitch.
 Jack Foley created the idea of Foley. He got the
idea of projecting moving image in a sound
stage and rerecording sounds in sync with actors
movements, using a range of surfaces and
props. Foley’s last job was on Spartacus
(Kubrick), Kubrick wanted to reshoot the scene
where the army march into battle as the location
sound was no good, Foley got his keys and
jangled them in sync to the march step creating
a rhythmic ching of the armous and saving the
production expense of a 2 day shoot with extras.
