3. MTV (Continued)
At the start of the Channel, MTV were usually known for
promoting Rock, Pop, Blues and country Music. Examples of
this is the forth music video promoted on the show was a
band called The Who and their song ‘ You Better You Bet’.
The songs genre is set under the subsidiary of rock as ‘Art-
rock’
Famous artist/Bands such as Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard, The
Who, 38 Special and many more famous rock/pop or blues
artist. The first non-white music video to be aired on the
show was ‘ Rat Race’ by the Specials. Back then this a major
form to ‘breaking’ the colour barriers on television. From
then on artist such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Donna
Summer and more were able to have their music videos
promoted on the station and able to grow in fan base and
also help contribute the horizon for cultural integration on air.
Currently MTV promotes a wider range of genres from Rock
all the way to Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, EDM and House. Various
artist such as Chris brown, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce,
Calvin Harris, Miley Cyrus, Sam smith and more.
By looking at MTV and how they promote artist of various
genres, I think that they would be a great station to air our
band Ultraviolet’s music videos. As not only do they cater to
our target audience but will also give us access to various
audiences who may be enjoying their chosen genres for
example rock but also get to hear and see our genre.
Therefore exposing new people to our music.

5. YouTube ( Vevo)
One of YouTube's most famous music service provider
partners is Vevo. Vevo is video hosting service which
launched in December 2009. The service is under the
ownership of Universal Music Group, Sony Music
Entertainment and Abu Dhabi Media. The head quarters
is located in New York, in the US.
Vevo is a way that artist can benefit for YouTube's
streaming of their music. Through Vevo, artist are
allowed to sign up and upload their videos to YouTube
safely ( real accounts for artist are verified) and able to
gain revenue through this as Vevo pays royalties to the
artist. Here not only can fans interact with their artist but
also see their new music and filmed concerts for free.
This also allows the promotion for the artist.
Due to Vevo’s multinational service, all genres of music
are promoted on this service provider and due to
YouTube the accessibility is great, giving the best
platform to come up as an artist or keep promoting
yourself as an established one. I would promote our
band on this platform as it is a safe way promote our
music and also gain revenue. Here our music is not only
being shared and easy access for fans but also a way to
promote gigs or new music coming out.
