2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
• On my front cover I have a male artist who is called Michael Kiely. He is 23 years of age
and is considered to be a mainstream artist; this is why I chose him for my front cover of
my mag due to the fact that he should appeal to my target audience. The outfit the is
wearing also fits in with the mainstream look as he is wearing a grey blazer plus a shirt
underneath
• During the research and planning process, I looked closely at UK Tribes but that there
wasn’t a specific category as the mainstream genre is not considered to attract a niche
social group.
4. COLOUR SCHEME
• My colour scheme is black, white and dark red and I think these colours suit the style of
my magazine very well. I chose to have my cover artist because i think he would appeal
to the target audience I am aiming for. The photo on the front shows that the artist has a
cocky feel to him, I also used a blazer and shirt to give of a classy feel to the magazine
and this outfit would be something that the majority of my reader would wear. The
clothes also represent the genre of the music, and I have taken inspiration from other
magazines who have an artist on the front wearing a blazer as I feel this style represents
my magazine very well.
5. FRONT COVER
• On my front cover I have my artist Michael Kiely posing in a sort of relaxed but cool
manner. This I feel represents the Mainstream Genre well. Also to replicate the genre and
also mirror it I selected an outfit that consisted of a grey blazer combined with a denim
shirt. This I felt again represented the mainstream genre. My artist was represented in a
manner of which the artist comes across as a very fun loving character. Also he is of a
similar age to my target audience of 16 too 24. Also the attire that my artist is wearing
suggest he is very successful in his profession. The background behind the photo, suggest
that this artist is clean and has sort of find life easy. It’s very clean and pristine, this could
also represent the artist’s personality and image. He is a positive role model which my
audience aspire to be like.
6. CONTENTS PAGE
• In my contents page I have chosen a different artist as the focal point. In difference to
my front cover artist, my content artist is a female. I chose a female to entice male
readers as they may find her attractive etc. The clothes she is wearing consist of a while
long T shirt (currently in fashion) plus a black beanie hat. Both items of clothing fit in well
with my colour scheme. In difference to my male artist on the front cover , the
setting/scene behind the my female artist is that of a more rough and urban look, this
displays to the audience that the artist has very much a sense of edginess and attitude to
her, also to back this up the pose suggest the attitude of her once again. Also when
taking the photo’s I thought about the direct mode of address towards the audience so I
ensured that my female artist was looking directly at the camera to engage my target
audience.
7. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
• In my double page spread I reverted back to my male artist Michael Kiely. On the left
side of the page the artist was striking a pose of a slightly confident and happy nature,
plus combined with a flower prop in the left side pocket of the blazer. I felt this prop fit in
nicely with the image as again the representation of the artist replicated the pragmatics
of the mainstream music genre.
