Construction/Paving Superintendent

Summary
The “Construction/Paving Superintendent” position plans, directs and coordinates
activities of designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are
accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure a safe work environment by overseeing compliance with all safety policies,
conducting training and safety audits and providing appropriate tools and equipment to
personnel
Review project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for
accomplishing project, staffing requirements and allotment of available resources to various
phases of project
Establish work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or
assignment of project personnel
Confers with project staff to outline work plan and assign duties, responsibilities and scope of
authority
Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule
and within prescribed budget
Review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as
required.
Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
Coordinate project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental
agencies
Confer with supervisory personnel to resolve complaints within the work force
Working up three week schedules for multiple jobs
Responsible for seeing that workers are designated according to type of project, work or
construction activity
Supervise up to 5 crews working on various scopes of civil construction and paving work
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and
applicable law including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning,
assigning and directing work, appraise performance, rewarding and disciplining employees,
addressing complaints and resolving problems
Able to work various times during day, night or weekend hours, at various
locations
Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
High school Diploma or equivalent
5-10 Years of experience
Knowledge of DOT specifications and DOT / CDL regulations
Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
