Target Audience Profile
The target audience for my magazine, Hitz, will be a male aged between 16 – 25 years old who is
seriously interested in the Hip-Hop/Rap genre of music. This is the genre that he only listens to and
talks about with their friends and the people around him. He will want to keep up with the latest
news, stories and artists from the genre and then share and talk about these with his friends. This is
why my magazine will be effective. He may be unemployed but most likely be in a job of music
production or currently studying in Sixth Form, college or he may not even go to school. This man
would be single but could also be in a relationship with the opposite sex, as the Hip-Hop/Rap genre
is mainly populated by straight people.

He is not afraid to speak his mind and is very confident around people he knows and doesn’t know.
His main friendship circle will have his close friends but he will also talk to many different people
even through the use of social networking like Facebook and text messages (BBM). His phone would
likely be a Blackberry as this is a popular phone make for people around his age and he will use the
messenger service to talk to his friends. If he doesn’t have a Blackberry phone then he has an
iPhone which shows that he is rich and successful, just like his favourite artists.

He will use the same terminology that crops up again and again in Hip-Hop/Rap in his vocabulary and
will think that he is strong and powerful like the artists he sees in the magazine. During his leisure
time he likes to rap himself or produce music created by other artists. He also goes to the gym to
maintain a strong image that the famous artists of Hip-Hop/Rap create. Because he is the target
audience of this magazine, he will like Hip-Hop/Rap music and will listen to it a lot. This male would
know about all of the new songs that their favourite artists produces and will talk about these with
friends.

He also likes films, especially action or gangster crime films. This is because the people portrayed in
these films are strong and powerful or lead a life similar to his own. These films will include Harry
Brown, Ill Manors and The Sweeny.

The values that he holds and his philosophy in life is to be successful in their hobbies, interests and
job. They also like to have the same status in life as their favourite artists, having lots of money and
being famous.

The way that he dresses will be similar to that of the artists that will feature in my magazine, trying
to replicate their style or to create new trends for other fans of the Hip-Hop/Rap genre to follow.
This will include the latest designer clothes or hoodies, tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Other music magazines that he reads are ‘Vibe’, ‘XXL’ and ‘The Source’. These are the top three Hip-
Hop/Rap music magazines that follow the most conventions but also have their own brand identity.
