2. It should explain the title of the magazine and
why you have chosen it
I am choosing the name ‘Explicit’ for my rap magazine.
The reason for me choosing this name is because people
who listen to rap are going to be used to hearing explicit
language or if they watch the music video they will know
that rap artists are portrayed as violent, threating and
ravelling as you can see in Nicki Minaj new music video
‘Anaconda’.
3. Explain your choice of genre, how you’re
going to communicate it
My genre for my magazine is rap
I have chosen the genre rap, because the majority of
people who did my survey prefer to listen to rap than any
other genre. I am going to communicate the genre by
the picture. I want to present my magazine in a threating
way because from research I have seen most of them
have threating body language. I will also communicate it
by the colours, I will stick to the three colour rule keeping
them dark colours and also using a male model on a
bike/car. I will use a male because in my research I
learned that rap magazines usually have males on the
cover with dark back grounds.
4. Target audience
My target audience is 16-25 year olds of both genders.
I have chosen this age group because at the age of 16
the audience members will have started to mature and
will be more aware of explicit language and behaviour.
The maximum age I will aim to reach is 25, this is because
most people over this age will probably not be
interested in the rap artists that my magazine will include.
5. Initial ideas for the main image
For my main image I should have either somebody I
know on a motor bike looking dead into the camera
with a bit of violence in there face so that it shows
they’re a “baller” but also the violent look because in all
the other rap magazines they have the model look into
the camera with anger on his face, my other idea is to
have somebody I know wearing my favourite rap artist’s
t-shirt.
6. Initial ideas for front page
For my front page I shall use my main image in the
centre of the page with a dark back ground and bold
text or da font for my Name/Logo with around the edge
some key information to the consumer like important
gossips and new tours and albums.
7. How to establish a house style- colour, font,
logo (how to know they go together)
To establish my house style I have looked at a range of
different rap magazine and noticed they only use the
three colour pallet rule which is a black or red back
ground with red white or yellow writing depending on
the back ground so I think I’m going to use a black
background with red and white writing.
8. Ideas about contents page and double page
spreads
For my content page I think I will use a different image as
my front page but Ill keep the colour theme going or
switch it around so I have a red back ground and white
and black writing or white background and red and
black writing.
9. Which institution would publish your
magazine?
I’ve decided to use InterMedia Partners because they
have a good report and also they represent one of the
leading hip-hop/rap magazine vibe.
