This document discusses how a magazine targeted towards older teen fans of rock music would represent that social group. It would use dark colors, moody imagery, and references to rock stereotypes like being loud, rebellious, and alternative. The cover features a model dressed in dark clothes with no smile to portray this stereotypical rock image. Inside, articles would use some vulgar language and discuss bands and topics of interest to the target audience. Fonts and graphic design would have an edgy, broken-up style to match the perceived unkempt nature of rock music. The goal is to appeal to fans of the genre and keep them engaged through accurately representing the culture.
2. Who Is My Magazine
Targeted To?
• Since the genre of my magazine is rock, I have to be able to alter the look of my
magazine, to appeal to the target audience.
• Looking at the stereotypes, the rock genre is very loud and rebellious, with dark
colours and a alternative sense of style.
• Looking at this, I would have to make sure my magazine has all these aspects, to
attracts my target audience.
Throughout, I would have to appeal to the target audience of my choice. Since older teens,
who are fans of the rock genre are my target audience, I would have to make sure that
every single detail of my magazine is to their taste and liking. This has got to keep them
interested and feel like they can relate to this magazine.
3. Cover
Shania is dressed in dark clothes as, the stereotype for the
rock genre is having dark clothes and dark hair, this is the
reason why I had chosen Shania. Shania deliberately isn’t
smiling as, the rock stereotype is about being moody and
‘alternative’, unlike the normality of the music culture.
The use of bright colours doesn’t make the magazine look
too sophisticated. It attracts to the younger viewers as, it’s
quite loud and bold, standing out on the shelfs.
The fact that the offer of “FALL OUT BOY TICKETS” is put
on the cover is because, it attracts the target audience of
the band, giving them the hope to win those tickets. If it
was One Direction on the front cover of the magazine, no
one would be excited about it because, that certain band
isn’t in the rock genre.
4. Contents
Dark colours have been frequently used, as said
before, it relates to the rock genre and what it is
seen as, generically. Even though the colours are
dark, they are still bold and stand out, catching the
viewers eye.
In each picture, the models aren’t really smiling,
they have a quite serious look on their faces,
showing the moody side of music. There is a sense
of humour, however, to show that it’s not too serious
and is funny and playful too.
5. Article
The use of vulgar language in my magazine,
suggests that this is targeted to an older
audience, probably in their late teens. As rock
is seen as a ‘rebel’ type genre, the swearing
links up to it, making the band seem quite
strong and fierce.
The article is about what the audience needs
and wants to know, attracting the target
audience of that band, informing them of their
favourite celebrites.
The font on the title of the page was choesn
to be scruffy and broken up, as it represents
the genre quite well. It also immediately
makes people think about the un-neat way
the rock genre is, hopefully making the
audience enjoy the magazine a bit more.
