Systems Engineer Level II, Significant Contributor to Nordstrom IT
Managed day-to-day operations for Nordstrom Corporate Data Center raised floor. Responsible for hardware
installation, some basic configuration, preventative maintenance, and vendor management. Ensured policies and
procedures were in place for operational excellence. Trained new managers and employees on processes and
procedures.
Notable Accomplishments:
16 consecutive years of critical systems uptime.
As Network Operations Center Leader, successfully initiated the first mainline store network refresh.
Installed a new IBM z9 mainframe with 128 escon, om2 fiber and cat5e connections between an IBM
3590 tape library and a front end processor and various other peripherals.
Installed 6 EMC Vmax array with nine frames each. The om2/om3 fiber SAN connections ranged from 64
to 128 each.
Worked 24 1/2 hours to install an intrusion detection system with 100% success
Experience installing and decommissioning: IBM zOS, IBM Websphere, Cisco UCS, Cisco routers and
switches, NetApp, NetBackUp, HP servers, Sun/Oracle servers, Checkpoint firewalls, FireEye Intrusion
Detection System, EMC VMAX, EMC Xtreme I/O, Pure Storage, Nutanix, Veritas, 3Par storage and
Teradata.
Key contributor in building a database for all raised floor hardware. The database included floor location,
RU location, serial number, warranty expiration, group ownership, oncall information and switch port
information. The database achieved significant cost savings by lower overall troubleshooting time and
downtime.
Worked closely with multiple vendors for cat5e, om2 and om3 cabling and power to achieve cost savings
in those areas.
Worked closely with the facilities team for cooling and power to the raised floor and also to the building.
Attended a Trane HVAC class for building systems.
2. Nordstrom, Inc. Denver, CO 1/2000 to 6/2008
Lead NOC Tech
Responsible for ensuring uptime of all store data circuits including Nordstrom full line and the Rack stores.
Worked with management to develop training for my colleagues on Cisco access points, switches and routers.
Responsible for troubleshooting with Telco vendors at the stores when circuits failed.
Notable Accomplishments
Developed the first full line store network refresh. Built the configurations applied over 50 different stores
with a very high success rate.
Worked with a team of 10 people to ensure connectivity to stores and store hardware was met.
Nordstrom, Inc. Seattle, WA 7/1997 to 12/1999
Network Engineer
Responsible for Nordstrom stores network connectivity, troubleshooting Cisco switches, access points and
routers and Avaya phone systems. Configured routers, switches and CSU’s for store connectivity. Ensured daily
tape backups of servers were sent offsite for the Seattle and Denver corporate campus’.
