2. HOW DID YOU RESPOND TO THE
ORIGINAL BRIEF WITH THE AUDIENCE
IN MIND? GIVE DETAILS OF AUDIENCE
RESEARCH CARRIED OUT AT THE
PLANNING STAGE.During the planning stage, we found that the typical age
rating for this type of romantic comedy was 12, however we
found that our film had nothing to make it that certificate,
and so evolved the film around the PG certificate.
We also somewhat stuck with the conventions of the genre
regarding the way in which the storyline was structured, for
example the two friends going after the same girl is a
common feature amongst romantic comedies.
We also aimed to keep the comedic elements light hearted
and PG appropriate in order to keep in line with the
research we gained from the use of an online questionnaire.
3. IN FILMING AND EDITING HOW DID YOU ENSURE MEANING
WOULD BE APPARENT TO THE AUDIENCE? WHAT CREATIVE
DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE IN PLANNING, REHEARSING,
FILMING AND EDITING THAT WERE INFLUENCED BY YOUR
SENSE OF THE AUDIENCE AND HOW THEY MIGHT INTERPRET
YOUR FINISHED FILM?
During the filming and editing stages, we decided on
light hearted music which fits our target audience,
primarily teenagers and women, however we do not
exclude the male audience as the storyline has a
relatable quality regarding going after a girl.
Also, the PG certificate does not exclude the teenage
audience. The film received a PG certificate due to there
being no explicit language or images throughout.
During editing, we made the film more fast paced than
it was originally intended, in my opinion. However his
reflects the view of our research into our target
audience, who prefer a faster paced film, as if it was
edited in a slower fashion, the film would seem hard to
grasp and rather boring. This was reflected in the end
product when we received feedback saying the film was
4. HOW DID THE AUDIENCE RESPOND WHEN YOU
TRIALLED ASPECTS OF YOUR FILM? ARE THERE A
VARIETY OF DIFFERENT POSSIBLE INTERPRETATIONS
OF YOUR FILM THAT WILL DEPEND ON THE CULTURAL
SITUATION OF THE VIEWER?
Our audience feedback was very positive in
nature; everyone involved said that they
understood the storyline and that it is a
“good original storyline” that “keeps
continuity”. However, everyone involved
thought that a PG rating was too low and
that they would have given it either 12 or
12A. Also, our feedback told us that the
dialogue between characters could be
louder as it is sometimes hard to hear over
the background noise.
Each person seemingly interpreted the film
in the same fashion, conveying that the
film has only one real storyline that is
universally understood, however different
cultures were not used in the audience
feed back, which we could have done
