2. ANCILLARY TEXTS
Ancillary texts were important as they allowed
us to promote and advertise our production.
Even after our film treatments, we had problems
with creating a poster, and made several
posters, which we used as teaser posters, before
deciding on our final poster. Our radio trailer
however was easier to create, as we used the
same software that we used to edit our film,
which was familiar, posing less problems. We
also used techniques from other radio trailers,
3. RESEARCH INTO POSTER
Researching into posters that
were in the same genre bracket of
our film gave us a good insight in
what to involve in our poster.
Looking at films such as 500 Days
of Summer, pretty woman. These
gave us inspiration, both film
content and poster design,
particularly Pretty Woman, with
the pink and white theme, which
the characters clearly displayed.
4. OUR POSTER
We designed our poster with the
conventions of the genre and the
content of the film in mind. Much
like the pretty woman poster, we
used a white background with a
pink/purple colour scheme, with the
main characters displayed clearly.
Our Poster also hints at the love
triangle story line, for example,
harry looks at Emily and Emily looks
at Callum, connoting different love
interests. Callum is also shaking
Harry’s hand, conveying how he
5. OUR POSTER
Reviews placed towards the bottom
to show how our film has been
viewed by the audience.
Actors names placed towards the
top, while being bold and clear who
is starring in the film, it is placed as
to let the central image have more
priority
Central image of the three
characters is the most important
piece in the film poster. It gives the
viewer a good picture in their head
what might happen in the film,
while not reading a film plot or any
other writing texts about the film.
The film title is our official film title
used actually in our film. It is a plain
font, which contrasts the film as it is
about a complicating love story. The
two different colours also work well
together, as well as being
stereotypical colours associated
with love films.
Film certificate placed
down in bottom corner as
to be noticed by the
audience, but not
obstructing the key
imagery
The background is again a plain light
violet colour, conveying the stereotypes
linked with romance. It fits well with the
title, and their colours. Being a more
universal colour, it matched most other
colours placed on it, therefore the
central image fitted perfectly.
All the little text showing who is
involved in the film is placed at the
bottom of the poster, again out of
the way of the main image while
still being noticed.
6. OUR RADIO TRAILER
Radio trailers are an effective advertising aid as
the radio can be easily accessed by anyone, of
virtually any age.
Our radio trailer consists of a voice over which
advertises the film, and dialogue from the film,
which gives our target audience a peak into the
film itself without revealing any plot twists or
surprises that the film may have, making the
target audience hopefully want to see our
production.
7. IN CONCLUSION
I believe that our two advertising products show synergy
within our group, as both the poster and radio trailer,
released at the same time, are both related and
compliment each other. This shows creativity within our
group, which reflects the intentions, and the theme of our
film effectively.
