Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median and Mode
Evaluation 2
1. 2)How effective if the combination of
your main product and the ancillary
texts?
2. Our main aim when doing our project was to make a five minute film
with the genre being a ‘romantic comedy’ we wanted the film to appeal
to our target audience 12-22 therefor everything we did we did was to fit
this. Our film was a typical love story where in the end ‘fate bought them
back together again’ therefore we tried to stick to the typical ‘lovey
dovey’ theme that is usually expected in an average romantic comedy.
Therefore when creating our two ancillary texts being a radio trailer and
a poster we tried to stick to this theme. In our poster we used soft
colours such as pinks and yellow, pink being again a classic colour related
to our chosen theme ‘love’.
3. We worked very hard on making sure our two ancillary
worked not only very well together but also very well with
the main production, overall the synergy between the two
worked well. They combined really well and as we hoped
they easily related with each other. In terms of the radio
trailer we tried to again stick to the ‘love theme’ we played
the same back ground music that was played in the final
film, the reason we did this was to keep the two linked as we
found by looking at past radio spots for similar films that
there’s usually always synergy between the two. We also
used voice clips from our film in our radio spot to again give
us the same effect.
4. We did the same for the poster, we tried to include pictures of
the actors from our film so the two could easily be linked
together, we also used a quote from the film and from the
radio trailer and the main film in the poster so that all three
products could be related. As a group we decided that it was
very important that the main film and the two ancillary texts
gave the same message to the audience. In terms of selling
our main product I think that the ancillary texts do a very good
job of doing that.
5. The radio trailer not as much as the
poster as the radio trailer isn't very
accurate, for example its states that
the film would be ‘at cinemas near
you soon’ and doesn’t tell you what
the age classification is. Whereas the
poster tells you everything precisely.
It tells you the exact month that it will
be out, the correct classification and
also the names of the actors and
actresses. This is very important as
some people would rather watch a
film if they hear that a certain
actor/acress is starring in it. Giving
the film more publicity and people
more reasons to be willing to pay to
go watch our film.
6. We did a lot of research on our two advertising products, we even
looked at other things besides the poster and the radio spot that we
had originally set out to do such as viral adverts and bill boards to
try get an idea of what factors made a product more eye catching
and what would be more likely to create a larger audience of people
who wish to watch the film. One of the posters we focused on was
the film ‘the ugly truth’ this particular poster to me was very
simple, to the point yet effective. The poster consisted of the two
main people starring in the film, their names and the month it was
due to be out. The only thing that I found was missing was the
classification which we decided to put in on ours. Ultimately we
found that our main product and the ancillary texts were successful
in working well together and would sell our product.
