The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a main film product with ancillary texts like a film poster and radio trailer. It analyzes how the film portrayed the main character Alex's mental illness through scenes of mental anguish. Both the film and radio trailer used ambient sounds and a royalty-free song for consistency. The film poster uses contrasting colors and the same title text as the film to create intrigue. It aims to resemble other posters in the psychological thriller genre by showing only the main character's face and obscuring their eyes. The goal is to leave aspects unknown and draw in audiences without revealing too much about the plot.
2. What were you trying to achieve in
your main product?
In our film it was our main focus to emphasize the
mental illnesses that Alex has. We did this by showing
pain mentally. This really hit the audience when we
showed Alex screaming as though she was having a
breakdown in a white room. We have classified our film
at a 12, this means that we would be able to show this to
our target audience 12+ as people this age are typically
interested in the psychological thriller genre.
In our radio trailer we also used the scream to set the
psychological thriller genre in stone. We used ambient
sound and a royalty free song that we had got off of the
internet to use in both of our radio trailer and our film.
This is called synergy.
3. Film Poster
Our film poster uses the same text for
the title of our film as what is actually in
our film. We have chosen to use
colours which contrast each other and
what seem unconventional for a film
poster. We have also decided to add
ratings to our poster to make the film
seem professional and to encourage
people to watch our film. We have also
used the Steel Tongs font to add credits
to our film poster. Overall we have used
a mixture of conventional and
unconventional features of a film poster
to create curiosity for our audience.
4. Similarity of posters on our
genre
In our poster we have only used
a shot of the main characters
face, as the other film poster
does. This is done so that you
can see the true emotions in the
characters face. The eyebrows of
our character show that she may
be innocent, just as the ribbon in
‘The Haunting of Helena’s poster.
In our poster we have made sure
that we cannot see the
characters eyes, this can
suggest a loss of identity. This is
also present in ‘The Haunting of
Helena’s film poster as the main
characters eyes cannot be seen.
Both film posters also have star
ratings encouraging the audience
to watch the film.I think that ‘The Haunting of Helena’ is a perfect
example to start off from as it left some things out
so then the audience is drawn in to what the film is
about.
5. Text
To make sure that the film poster
could be recognisable I made sure
that we used the same text in both the
poster and the film. Even though they
are different colours, they are still the
same text, PW Squared. We used
different colours on the poster
because of two reasons. These being;
we didn’t want the poster to be simple
and boring, and two because we
wanted to use colours that didn’t go
with each other so that the audience
could clearly tell the CONTRAST. We
wanted the colours to seem awkward
together.
