Question 2: How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary texts?
As well as my main product I have also constructed ancillary
texts, more specifically my website and digipak. These were
all created in order to tie in together to promote the artist
and product, using the concept of synergy. This is when
more than one product share a similar interest and promote
one another accordingly. By using this form of cross
promotion, my group and have managed to link of ancillary
text and music video, allowing the audience and general
public to easy identify each product and be able to reference
them as being a part of one body.
In order to create this, we had to create consistency, this was
achieved via factors such as ensuring the font size and type
remained the same throughout the website and digipak.
Making easy for viewers to understand and recognise our
brand. Also, the pictures of the artist used on the digipak and
website, were ones of the in the same costume and where
possible the same settings. This also helped to create
consistency and by default effectively link all three products
together as one.
The monochrome effect was used across all the products
and was used throughout majority of the music video. This
helped us to stand within our genre; it also allowed products
to be grouped as one. Also, by our digipak having a barcode
this takes consumers back to the website, and the website
promotes the song, as well as the digipak. Therefore again
demonstrating synergy and exactly how I formed a
combination between the products.
