WhAt IS A GROUP DISCUSSION?
Group discussion -
“The group of candidates is given a
topic or a situation, given a few
minutes to think about the same, and
then asked to discuss among
themselves for 15-20 minutes”.
5/30/2021 Dr. C. Beulah Jayarani 3

A) Content: What you say during the discussion is looked into from
two perspectives – relevance and comprehensiveness.
B) Analytical skills: explore the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of the subject
matter.
C) Reasoning skills: how you respond to those of the others, how
effectively you can ‘strengthen or weaken’ an argument, how
logical you are in your overall approach to the topic.
5/30/2021 Dr. C. Beulah Jayarani 6
D) Organisation skills – how you organise things will be
E) Communication skills: you get your point across to someone in a
simple language they understand, with relevant illustrations they
can identify with.
F) Creativity: Can you look at a problem differently from ten other
participants and suggest a path-breaking solution?
