2. ABSENCE OF WOMEN.
With our opening, we had decided we
didn’t want to challenge the Gangster
Genre and we stuck with only two main
characters who happened to be male.
We did this to show that men are more
brave and stronger compared to women.
Even though one of the men is clearly in
charge, you are able to tell that they are
both strong and independent.
We had decided that we wanted a more
of a traditional opening by not having
any women seen or shown through the
film opening. If the film happened to be
longer, we may have added a women to
be shown as an object of affection
rather than her being like one of the
men.
3. MISE EN SCENE.
Even though the lighting was an issue, you are
able to tell with the props whom the more
superior character is. We are able to tell that
the “Boss “ Character is more superior as he
has a knife and a large amount of money. With
him at all times throughout the opening.
The first character who was introduced in our
opening scene wasn’t a stereotypical gangster
and this had allowed us to challenge the genre
slightly. Seeing as the first character is quite
well spoken, he wouldn’t look like a Gangster if
you saw him in public. The clothing we had
used made him look more casual yet more of a
‘gangster.’
The second character we had selected was a
little more fearful and scary looking. We were
able to achieve this with his attire and mainly
focusing on the clothing rather than just the
4. SOUND & DIALOGUE.
The dialogue throughout the opening was basic and a lot
was able to happen within the first two minutes and most
of this was down to dialogue and the conversation
between the two characters. Throughout the conversation
between the two characters you are able to know who the
most dominant male is and that would have been the
second male introduced. This is mainly due to him forcing
the other character into the business and making him do
the job.
The representation of men throughout our opening with
the sounds is traditional and modern as the “boss”
character is meant to be the traditional representation
due to him being more power ful and brave compared to
our other character whom is scared and is also shown to
be weak . We know this due to their dialogue and sounds
through their speech.
