The document provides an analysis of the film The Hangover. It summarizes key aspects of the film's exposition, setting, and cinematography in the opening scenes. The exposition introduces the main characters - one is mature and responsible, another is posh and successful, while one seems comedic. The setting establishes they are lost in the desert far from home after a stag party for a wedding. The cinematography uses close-ups to show the characters' rough physical state and reactions as they wake up unsure of what happened.
2. Exposition Of Character
The opening the film shows the first protagonists
talking on the phone in the dessert with the other
characters sitting in the distance. This shows that he is
the mature one out of the group as he took
responsibility to talk to their worried family and friends
as they were unsure of what happen the night before.
The second protagonist is shown wearing clothes that
make him look smart and he is wearing glasses. This
implies that he is the posh and rich one as he looks like
he has had a good amount of success throughout his
life.
The third and fourth protagonists are shown buying
suits for the wedding that is going to happen. The
protagonists that has his trousers down implies that he
is there for the comedic aspects of the film as he seems
like a funny character.
3. Setting
In the opening of the film there are several
different locations and settings that signify
that they will be used throughout the film.
The shot of the dessert shows that the
protagonists are lost in the middle of nowhere
and it shows that they are a long away from
their families.
The wedding dresses imply that there will be a
wedding in the film which makes it clear to
the audience why the protagonists have been
put in the situation they are in which is due to
a stag party.
I will try to use this in my film opening
because I want the party scene to lead the
protagonists to be found across the town in
different locations.
4. Cinematography
The close up of the protagonists face shows the
audience that he has had a rough night that was
out of control. This is because the protagonists
look roughed up as he has a cut on his lip which
implies to the audience that he is hurt and is in
discomfort.
The use of the close up shots in the opening of
the film allows the audience to see the reactions
of the characters as they get to terms with what
has happened.
I will use these types of shots in my film
opening because it will help add more emotion
to each scene that shows the protagonists
waking up s it will show how they feel.
