MH ACROSS CULTURES
In just a few words, please share:
How have you experienced the concept of "mental health"
within your own cultural communities?
● I've lived in Colombia and the U.S and mental health has not discussed
at all around me in Colombia
● I've learned the most about mental health in the U.S
● Growing up hispanic, it was more about having god with you and he
could get you through anything. never actually discussed what your
feeling. I’m also colombian
● It is similar in Haitian culture as well !
● It was something Other People had.
● Mental Health is not explored because physical pain is more important
● Shame associated with MH challenges, which can lead to secrecy
● Same with anxiety, my family finds it annoying that I over think about a
lot of things
● Shame is definitely a big part of what influences and maybe even
confuses what i may believe or feel.

to reach out for help?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● The judgement
● Or feeling like you are disappointing ppl
● Embarrassment
● Lack of awareness about resources
● That it's not valid
● Not having the gut to do it, feeling like you
should just do it yourself
● Uncomfortable conversations, easier to blame
yourself
● I love how she said in the film that it was easier to
blame biology, but those uncomfortable
conversations are so necessary
● That you won't be believed
