2. #5 Stay on Target
•Who is your audience?
•What social media sites are
they using?
•Facebook: everyone
•LinkedIn: professionals
and business owners
•Twitter: News,
celebrities & lifestyle fans
•Pinterest: Women (who
are getting married, love
crafts, home décor) Photo courtesy of

•Google+: Use it to bring
together your “tribe” (with
Hangouts)
3. #5 Stay on Target
Use social media to
research:
•People you want to
connect to
•Industry leaders
•Potential customers
•Anyone you’re going
to meet with (look
them up first!)
•What your market is
talking about
5. #4 Know Your Memes
What is a meme?
Wikipedia:
an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person
to person within a culture
They are very simple, repeatable ideas.
Be aware of and in control of them by being active
on social media.
What “memes” are alive about your business?
• Clovis Chamber is the “fun” chamber
• Starbucks is a cool place to hang out
• WalMart is cheap, Target is affordable
6. #4 Know Your Memes
Whatever you do, McKayla Maroney is not impressed.
7. #3 NO Cats

8. #3 NO Cats
• Don't post for the sake of a reaction if it's not
related to your business, theme or the interests of
your audience
• But your market's interests are wider than you think,
and you can find ways to tie things to your business.
•Examples: Runners World tied to the election
via presidential secret service runners.
•The Reflective Writer used the election as a
writing prompt.
•What can you tie in to your business?
11. #2 Repurpose Content
Despite the humor of this graphic, you can and should post your ideas,
and information in more than one place.

12. #2 Repurpose Content
What can you do with one, discrete “unit” of information or idea?
From the original post, blog post or article, you can create:
• blog post
• Ebook
• articles
• newsletter
• facebook post
• linkedin post
• video
• podcast
• special reports
• white papers
14. #1 It’s Networking, not selling!

15. Pull, not push
This is social networking not social “selling.”
Use your social media profiles to
• build relationships
• attract people
• build loyalty
• develop a sense of community
• educate your market
• grow awareness
• and help your potential customers save time, money and have
more fun, even if you can’t help them.
