2. My Questionnaire
■ To start my research into my target audience, I designed a questionnaire so I could find out
information about my audience and find out ways how I could make my product appealing
to them. I asked demographic questions such as ‘What is age’ and ‘What is your gender’
and I also asked psychographic questions such as ‘What are your interests’ and ‘Who is your
favourite band’.The purpose of asking these questions was so I could read into the answers
and have ways into attracting them to my magazine. The real questions that would allow
me to do this however, were my direct questioning such as ‘What colour scheme would you
have’ and ‘What type of stories would you prefer’.
■ On the following slides I going to give you my response to these answers but the link to my
questionnaire is here;

3. Q1
■ ‘What is your gender?’
■ 70% said male and 30% said female.
■ This suggests that more males listen and buy rock music so therefore my magazine
should be aimed at a male audience.
4. Q2
■ How old are you?
■ The answers ranged between 15-18
■ This tells me that mostly younger people listen to rock music so therefore my
magazine should aim for a teenage audience.
5. Q3
■ What are your hobbies?
■ The feedback I got was mostly male related hobbies such as rugby and BMXing
however, going to parties also got answered a few times.
■ This suggests that my target audience are more masculine and enjoy taking part in
what are stereotyped as more dangerous and rebellious hobbies.
6. Q4
■ What is your favourite Rock artist or band?
■ Mostly male bands were answered such as fall out boy and the clovers.
■ This suggests that my magazine should mainly feature male bands other solo artists.
7. Q5
■ What is your favourite rock magazine?
■ 100% feedback which all said Kerrang.
■ This suggests I should copy layouts and some ideas of kerrang so the target audience
might appreciate that magazine more.
8. Q6
■ What are your favourite articles about?
■ The results came as inconclusive as the results were too mixed. The most suggested
was gossip. However, this was a narrow victory because we also had exclusives,
reviews, speculation and interviews only one vote behind.
9. Q7
■ What's your favourite Font?
■ All results said sans serif.
■ This reveals that sans serif font is preferred by younger audiences.
10. Q8
■ Favourite colour scheme?
■ This question was a multiple choose question and the winner emerged as red, yellow,
black and white as a colour scheme.
11. Q9
■ Favourite Front cover?
■ Another multiple choose question were we showed them 4 front covers of kerrang and
it appeared that the most answered was the one with the yellow, black, grey, white
and red colour scheme with a male rock band as the front cover.
12. Q10
■ Do you take part in the competitions which are usually displayed in magazines?
■ 50% saidYes and the over 50% said no.
■ My magazine will include competitions in it because half off the target audience takes
part in it.
13. Focus Group
■ As well as, writing a questionnaire we also sat down with three male fans of rock music
and kerrang magazine and had a discussion with them with what they thought made a
successful rock magazine.

■ Target audience are mostly teenagers.
■ Must use sans serif.
■ Catchy headlines to draw attention of target audience
