2. Audience Survey
• This is my audience survey. We used
websites, such as question pro, to create a
survey for primary research for our intended
target audience. We used websites such as
facebook and other social networking sites to
promote our survey. The results we collect we
were quantitative data and qualitative data.
3. What is your favourite genre?
This was my first question
to ask. I felt it the most
important question to ask
as my primary audience
was more rock/post
hardcore and even pop
punk fans so I wanted to
make sure I knew what
results were appropriate
for my audience.
4. Are you male or female?
I felt that asking what gender my
audience was was important. It let me
know what sort of images to include in
my work that appeal to the audience.
Since it is a higher percentage of males it
makes it more appropriate to include
images that fall into the male gaze.
5. When did you last go to a live gig?
I added this question to
my questionnaire as I
believed it would be
important in
understanding what my
audience would want to
see in my magazine.
For instance, knowing a
majority of my audience
has been to a live gig in
the last year shows me
that I should include
information about gigs in
my magazine.
6. Who is your musical hero?
• A lot of people who answered my questionnaire
also answering the genre question with a genre
that I wanted to make my magazine about. These
people had heroes such as Kurt Cobain. They also
talked about other rock legends like Jimi Hendrix
and musicians such as Matty Mullins. This shows
me that my content in my magazine should be
rock based and I should include interviews or
other similar things in my magazine which include
some of these “musical heroes”.
7. What is your favourite music
magazine?
I found out that 17/50 of my
participants favourite music
magazine was Kerrang!. This
was helpful to my research as I
can look at Kerrang! and use
codes and conventions they
use to appeal to my audience
as a majority find it their
favourite magazine.
8. What is your parents profession?
• I thought it would be important to include this
question in my questionnaire as it helps me
understand what sort of price range I should
put forward my magazine for. I found that a
majority of my target audiences parents were
middle class meaning I could have a higher
price range.
9. What is your favourite colour?
I decided this was an
important question to
ask. This is because
finding my audiences
favourite colour would
help me when
constructing my
magazine as I could use
this for my colour
scheme. The majority
of my audience picked
the colours blue and
black meaning I should
use these colours for
my colour scheme.
