Inappropriate behavior, leading to suspension from the classroom
1. Inappropriate behavior, leading to suspension from the classroom
+++++++++
Inappropriate behavior, leading to suspension from the classroom for those
with FASD is due to one or more of the following
a -not understanding because of inability to understand what is
being taught or incorrect teaching methods for that individual.
b - sensory disabilities; over or under responsive to one or more of
the five senses.
c - perseverating on something other than what is being taught.
This can be due to not understanding or some crisis in their life
that for the moment they are perseverating on.
These issues are rarely addressed. Usually they are diagnosed
ADHD and placed on medications that may or may not improve
behavior and compliance.
No amount of psycho-stimulant will overcome the inability to
understand due to neurological disabilities. If the effort to make the
individual understand is continued then the behavior will deteriorate: more
so because of the psycho-stimulant.
However if the individual has the ability to comprehend what is being
taught, but is not able to focus because of {b] and {c] then
psychostimulants may help that individual to understand what is being
taught.
But if the individual is not able to comprehend then no amount of
psychostimulant will enable the individual to understand what is being
taught
“Diagnosis, the Heart of the Medical Art.
2. Diagnosis is the heart of the medical art; it is what separates medicine as a
definite, rational science from medical magic and superstition.
Diagnosis is also the central, golden link in the chain of medical knowledge
that brings together all its theoretical aspects to provide the practical key to
treatment.
Diagnosis, to be accurate and sound, must be built upon a broad yet
definite base of knowledge regarding all aspects of human anatomy,
physiology and pathology.”
