INTRODUCTION
 Robot: A robot is a movable physical structure, with
actuators(motors) at joints, various sensor systems,
power supply and a computer "brain" that controls all
of these elements to perform a task automatically.
 Robotics is an exciting interdisciplinary field of the
study of robots. It deals with robot design and analysis
,selection of proper sensors and actuators ,suitable
control systems to handle a task in a required way
 Telerobotics: Robot that is operated remotely.
HISTORY
 The term “robot” was first used in 1920 in a play called “R.U.R”
or “Russums’s universal robots”by the czech writer Karel
Capek.
 The word “Robot” comes from the word “robota”
DEFINITION
 A programmable multifunctional manipulator designed
to move material, parts, tools or specialized devices
through various programmed motions for the
performance of a variety of Tasks.
LAWS OF ROBOTICS
Isaac Asimov proposed three “Laws of Robotics”
 Law 1:A robot may not injure a human being or
through inaction..
 Law 2:a robot must obey orders given to it by human
beings…
 Law 3:A robot must protect its own existence as long
as such protection does not conflict with the first law.
TYPES OF ROBOTS
 Industrial Robots
 Mobile Robots
 Educational Robots
 Domestic Robots
ROBOT COMPONENTS
 Manipulator or Rover
 End Effecter or grippers
 Actuators
 Sensors
 Controller
 Processor
 Software
ROBOT COMPONENTS(CONTD..)
 Manipulator or Rover: This is the main body of
the robot and consists of the links , the joints
and other structural element of the robot .
 End Effecter or grippers :End- effector is the
‘Hand’ that is attached to the end of robot.
 Actuators: An actuator is a component of a
machine that is responsible for moving and
controlling a mechanism or system. In simple
terms, it is a "mover"
 Sensors: A sensor is a device that detects and
responds to some type of input from the
physical environment.
 Processor :Microprocessor as control unit. The
control unit is the microprocessor part of the
robot. e.g arduino uno, Atmega
 Software :Software robotics is the use of bot
programs to automate computer tasks normally
performed by people
THE PURPOSE OF ROBOTS
 Robots are also used for following tasks:
 Dirty Tasks
 Repetitive tasks
 Dangerous tasks
 Impossible tasks
 Robots assisting the handicapped
 Cheaper on a long term basis..
ROBOTICS APPLICATION
 EXPLORATION-
o Space Missions
o Robots in the Antarctic
o Under water exploration
 MEDICAL SCIENCE
o Surgical assistant
 ASSEMBLY
o Factories part
o Handling
o Assembly
o Painting
o Surveillance
o Security(bomb disposal etc)
o Home help(grass cutting, nursing)
