2. I used a dark green
background for the
masthead to enable to
the title ‘Life at Kings’ to
stand out. It also blends
in well with the picture
used for the front cover.
Front Cover
The main cover line ‘A*
student’ is written in
bold and in capitals to
show that it is the main
story. It also helps
capture the audience’s
eye.
The colour palette I
used is white and
yellow which I thought
looked most clear on
the darker
background.
I used a medium close
up picture of a student
whilst enabling the
audience to see the
uniform; showing that
they are in school.
I chose a picture of an
everyday student so
that the audience
knows the magazine is
not focused on one
particular area of the
school (e.g. sport) but
on all areas of school.
I included a competition offer
as a ‘lure’ to make the
audience want to buy this
magazine; either student or
parent. I put the word
‘competition’ in capitals and
in a larger font to stand out
from other writing and to
capture more attention.
3. This front cover is largely similar to my plan. The only
difference would be the background on the masthead:
in my plan I just had a title, and no background.
To improve this front cover I would move the picture of
the student to the right slightly so that the writing does
not cover her face.
I would also aim to make the background of the cover
darker so that the writing stands out more.
I would make the picture brighter or bolder so that it is
clearer, and maybe experiment with more fonts to find
one more suitable for this magazine.
Does it reflect my plan? What would you
improve?
4. Contents
I added a ‘guess who’ game so that
the magazine is interactive, and the
audience can be an active, rather
than a passive audience.
I put the ‘guess who’ phrase in a
bolder and larger font so that it stood
out to the reader.
The word ‘contents’ is written in
bold to attract the reader’s
attention as it contrasts to the
colourful background, making It
stand out.
I put the main story ‘A* student’
in the middle of the contents as
the reader’s eye is usually drawn
to the centre.
I put the images in a collage to
convey a creative look and to
make it look more interesting.
5. Does it reflect my plan? What would you
improve?
It does not fully reflect my plan. Originally I
designed for the contents to be in more of a list
form but decided to change that last minute to
make it look more creative.
If I were to change my contents page I would
design it completely differently. I am not happy
with the design I have chosen. If I gave myself
more time I would rearrange the images and
make the layout very different.
I kept the same font as used on the front cover,
but I would like to experiment with other fonts to
see what would fit better with the page.
