Angelo State leads the Lone Star Conference standings with seven points (2-0-1). The Rambelles have not
allowed a goal in the last six games and not in the past 661 minutes of play.
League play carries on with five games this week along with non-conference action. Each of the six LSC
teams will play the other twice during the regular season, with the results of those contests to be used in
determining the seeds for a four-team postseason conference tournament. The No. 1 seed will host this yearâs
tournament November 7-9, 2014.
The womenâs teams are 38-18-7 overall this season. The squads are currently 7-7-3 combined versus
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 13-2 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other
conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Sierra Anderson, Angelo State University, JR, Forward, Wichita Falls, Texas, Wichita Falls HS
Anderson lifted the Angelo State soccer team to a 1-0 double-overtime win over Texas A&M-Commerce last
Friday with a 104th minute golden goal. The junior, who now has 14 goals in her career at ASU, headed the ball
in off a cross from Loni Byers to give the Rambelles the win over the Lions. Anderson has five goals this season
and leads the team with 27 shots. She has two game-winning goals in her junior season after a seven-goal
sophomore season where she was named to the LSC first-team and was an all-region selection.
DEFENSIVE
Shantel Wittke, Angelo State University, JR, Tucson, Arizona, Sahuaro HS
Wittke recorded two shutouts for the Rambelles last weekend in 194 minutes of action. The junior held A&M-Commerce
scoreless for 104 minutes before Sierra Anderson gave ASU a 1-0 win with a golden goal in double-overtime.
Wittke then had four saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Texas Womanâs on Sunday to extend the
consecutive shutout run by ASU to six games. She has six individual shutouts for ASU which has recorded eight
shutouts as a team. Wittke has 35 saves with a .921 saves percentage and a 0.37 goals against average in eight
games and 738 minutes played this season. She has a 7-0-1 record in goal for the Rambelles.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Emily Krenek, West Texas A&M University, scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Mondayâs 3-1
victory over Southern Nazarene, WTâs final non-conference opponent. She tallied three shots and placed each
on target in both her starts last week. She now leads the team with six goals on the season.
Savannah Henderson, Texas A&M University - Commerce, started in two games this week each against two
undefeated LSC rivals, Angelo State and Midwestern State. MSU, who had only given up five goals on the entire
year, gave up two to Henderson on the afternoon. Hendersonâs first (her ninth of the season), came after being
awarded a free kick just outside the top of the box, which she hammered home past reigning LSC Defensive
Player of the Week Courtney Burnette. Later in the game, Henderson gave the Lions the game-winner in
overtime (her tenth goal of 2014) off of a well-placed pass from teammate Cadie Annett. Hendersonâs heroics
at MSU propel her to the top of all LSC goal-scorers, passing TWUâs Natalia Diaz.
Melissa Moxley, Eastern New Mexico University, netted the game-winner 31:27 into Fridayâs victory over
West Texas A&M. The goal was her second of the season at the first for ENMU in a game at West Texas A&M
since October 28, 2011.
Fabienne Wilson, Eastern New Mexico University, made three saves to lead the Eastern New Mexico
University womenâs soccer team to its first-ever road win over West Texas A&M. The victory was Wilsonâs
second straight and improved her record to 3-1, this season. It also was her third career shutout.
Nicole Kemper, West Texas A&M University, made her second and third starts in goal for the Lady Buffs last
week and tallied 10 saves while allowing two goals between the two matches. She earned her second victory
of the season on Monday in a 3-1 WT win over Southern Nazarene.
