2. Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani took over the
leadership of the tribe after the death of his
father,Sheikh Thani in 1850
He was famous for being
pious,straightforward,intelligent and
experienced
He signed the treaty of 1868,in which
Britain recognized the Emirate of Qatar as
an independent Emirate
He handed over the power to his son,Sheikh
Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani in 1876
3. He is considered the real founder of the
Independent Emirate of Qatar. Ottoman Sultan gave
him the title of Lieutenant Governor(Deputy ruler)
He took over charge on Dec.18 1878 and is known
for his knowledge, knighthood, Shrewdness and
courage
Qatari tribes unified under his leadership
He maintained the rights and interests of Qatari
people and realized the independence of Qatar
He won the victory over Ottomans in the battle in
1893
Died in 1913 and the Emirate of Qatar became an
independent unified state
4. He took the authority of Qatar in his father life since 1905
and completed the responsibility after father died in 1913
In the same year the Ottomans abandoned all their power in
Qatar
Sheikh Abdullah is characterized by his wisdom,
shrewdness, strong-will and patience
He signed the Treaty with Britain in 1916 and the Treaty of
1935 to protect the country by land, sea and air
World War I and II occurred during his era. Pearl industry
declined and problems occurred at the borders but Sheikh
overcame the problems and maintained unity and solidarity
of the State.
Though father transferred the control to his son Sheikh
Hamad bin Abdullah, he died in 1948 and he return to rule
again for one year
5. He took power from his father Sheikh Abdullah
on 20th Aug 1949
Sheikh Ali was known for being religious, pious
and kind towards his people.
He was keen to spread science and knowledge in
the state.
During his era the schools were opened in
1952,hospitals and mosques are built, and roads
were paved
His era witnessed the export of the first shipment
of Qatari oil in 1949,which lead to the revival of
modern renaissance in the state.
He took honorable attitudes supporting of Arab
and Muslim issues
6. Sheikh Ahmed became the ruler of Qatar in October 1960
During his era Qatar witnessed major economic growth due
to discovering a number of oil fields in the state.
The introduction of an administrative system, the creation
of the Ministry of finance in 1960,the administration of
employees in 1966.
Formed the first cabinet in Qatar in 1970 and issued first
Qatari constitution in the same year.
Qatar gained complete independence in 1971 after ending
the British-Qatari Treaty
Qatar joined in the league of Arab states in 1971,a member
state in UN and NAM(Non-Aligned Movement)
Established a station to gather oil in Halul Island
Sheikh Ahmed died in November 1977
7. He took over the power in 1972 and began to reorganize
the Govt.
He appointed a minister for foreign and counselor for
the State’s affairs
Political and Economic Achievements
Increasing oil resources and national income
The Faculty of Education was established in Qatar for
first time
Participated in establishing The Corporation Council for
the Arab states of the Gulf(GCC) in 1981.
Establishment of Court of Accounts to audit the
performance of govt. agencies
Start exploiting the North Gas field in 1991.
In 1995 the rule handed to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-
Thani
8. Born in 1952 studied in schools in Qatar and went to
Royal Military Academy in UK where he graduated in
1971.
After graduation he joined the Qatari Military troops with
the rank of Lieutenant colonel and appointed as a
commander of the First Qatari battalion which is now
called “The Movable Battalion of Hamad”. He became
General and appointed as Commander-in-chief of
military troops.
He was concerned with increasing the number of
members and equipped them with latest weapons and
trained the officers and soldiers with latest military
techniques.
He appointed as Minister of Defense on May 1977 and
worked in the position of the president of the Supreme
Council for Youth Welfare since its establishment in
1979 until 1991.
He was in the position of Head of Council as well.
9. Ruling and Achievements
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani took over power on
27 June 1995
1. Issuing the permanent constitution of Qatar State in
2004
2. Approval of Qatar State’s vision 2030 that covers all
life aspects
3. Developing education through educational initiative
4. Interactive participation for resolving many
problems of Arabic and Islamic World
5. Winning of hosting of World Cup 2022 to be in Qatar
10. Born in Doha on 3rd June 1980 .Graduated from the
Royal Military Academy in UK in 1998.He is fluent in
English and French
On 5th Aug 2003,Sheikh Hamad issued an Amiri
decree appointing Sheikh Tamim as Heir Apparent.
Sheikh Tamim has many orders of merit that prove
his ability and wisdom in managing the general
affairs.
His highness won the title of Best sportive character
in the Arab nation in 2006 and the Supreme order of
Olympic Council of Asia in 2007.
Took over the power on 25th June 2013.
He followed up the development projects in the
country.
11. Acheivements
1. Supporting the low income Qatari people by
raising social security salaries.
2. Obligating Qatari youth to National service
3. Establishing police academy
4. Working on variety of income resources by
developing sector of industry and investments.
5. Developing transportation sector by
establishing Qatar railways(RAIL).
6. Developing infrastructure and preparing for
hosting World Cup 2022.
7. Developing natural gas sector which made the
Qatar the third in the world.
