2. Research and Planning
• To fully understand the Postmodern
theory, I explored the theory further on
various different blogging sites. I also
found many websites dedicated to the
dystopia genre as it has a very dedicated
niche audience. Wikipedia’s page on
dystopia films was also extremely useful
as it categorised the most popular films
into dystopia sub genres and explained
the criteria of each.
• The use of YouTube during our trailer
research was vital as it gave us a whole
library of trailers to analyse at the click
of a button. The comment section on
videos also offered me feedback on
what viewers thought were their
favourite parts of the trailers so I was
able to see what conventions were most
effective.
3. • I was able to get helpful information on
what to research and how to find it
through the Moodle, an online library of
files allowing teachers to upload
documents to be viewed by students.
• Throughout the research stages of the
portfolio, I used Powerpoint as it is simple
to use and the most effective way of
presenting my findings. The majority of
my planning documents were created on
word as they are more for personal use
and some needed to be printed so they
could be used during the production
stage.
• I posted my research on my personal blog.
This is a very useful piece of technology as
it allowed me to gain feedback from my
teacher and fellow students digitally. It
also means my work is presented neatly
and categorised into clear, separate parts
of the production process. As it is a digital
format, I was able to edit my pieces of
work as my knowledge grew further
throughout the duration of the course.
4. Construction
• We filmed our trailer on a Canon EOS
550D, a high resolution DSLR camera
which gave us pristine full HD footage at a
affordable price, an example of
technological convergence.
• I edited the film using Adobe Premiere
Pro, a software which allows the user to
create highly technical content through a
user friendly interface.
• We found the font for our title on the
website DaFont which offers thousands of
free downloadable fonts. We chose a
capitalised serif one which looked official
as this linked to the governmental themes
within Conspiracy.
• I found the opening soundtrack on royalty
free music website Incompetech, a
website which offers thousands of
uncopyrighted pieces of music, a rarity in
the modern day world.
5. • I found a audio clip of police sirens
on sound effect website
SoundBible.com which offers
thousands of free to download sound
effects at the click of a button. This
particular effect made the rioting
scenes in Conspiracy appear even
more chaotic.
• We used Adobe Photoshop to create
our film poster and magazine cover.
This programme, like its counterpart
Adobe Premiere, allows the user to
create exceptionally high quality
products by using different
photographic effects all within its
user friendly interface. The
programme is another example of
technological convergence as it
allows people outside of the industry
to create professional looking
products.
6. Evaluation
• To evaluate the process, I used
multiple different digital methods.
For example, I created the directors
commentary on Adobe Premiere
which allows an audio/visual
evaluation of the process rather than
a written one. I then uploaded this
to YouTube so it can be viewed by
anyone, anywhere at any time
around the world.
• I also used a combination of
Powerpoint, Slideshare and Prezi to
present my answers in a variety of
visual formats. Prezi was my
favourite format of presentation as it
is the most aesthetically pleasing yet
still easy to use.
