The document discusses how various media technologies were used at different stages of creating a horror film project. Google, YouTube, Facebook, blogger, websites providing free fonts, Slideshare, Prezi, Scribd, IMDb, iTunes, After Effects, iMovie, a camera, voice recorder, and Celtx were all utilized for research, planning, construction, and evaluation. Functions like sourcing images and information, analyzing trailers, promoting the film, documenting work, presenting research, selecting fonts and music, editing footage, filming shots, recording audio, and planning screenplays were facilitated by these technologies.

Evaluation Question Three
1. How did you use
media technologies
in the construction,
research, planning
and evaluation
stages?
2. Google being the biggest search engine I found myself using it a lot to carry out
research on the horror genre and other existing products of horror. We looked at
various poster sights and researched various different trailers of horror films. I sourced
example photographs, for example the image from Psycho, using Google, sought
information on the theories of Mulvey, Todorov, and Adorn, sourced images for our
presentation and poster art.
When analysing horror trailers, Youtube was a great advantage. It provides countless
videos from around the world, producing a wide selection of material to use in my
research. When thinking up concepts for our trailer, looking at other trailers of the same
genre and theme fed us ideas thus helping us in creating ours.
Facebook allowed us to generate a digital strategy as a method of promotion for our
film. Designing a Facebook awareness page for the antagonist of Outbreak created a
blur between fiction and reality for the public, hopefully accumulating a large fan base
for the movie, optimising its chances of success in the film market.
3. Blogger.com has paid a huge part in my A2 media course throughout all stages of the
project. I've documented every step on my blog to refer back to for inspiration in every
aspect of the production of Outbreak. The act of blogging allows me to reflect and
organise my ideas making the directions to go clear to decide on.
Websites providing free fonts were extremely useful in all aspects of the production
work; the trailer, poster and magazine cover. We were able to browse through
hundreds of different and unique fonts, finding ones we thought best suited the
themes in our film, choosing the most effective.
Slideshare allows me to present my research, planning and evaluation work onto my
blog in an interesting way through the use of a different media program. It also helps
in organising work, making it clear for the reader to follow.
4. Prezi was used to display a different way of presenting my research and planning. As
well as diversifying my blog, Prezi enables viewers to become more interactive with my
work making it far more interesting to read.
Scribd allowed me to upload word file to my blogger, providing yet another way of
presenting my planning work. It shows each page very clearly, maintaining all
formatting from the original file. Its clarity makes it a popular program to use as
shown by iconic figures such as Barak Obama.
IMDb's website offers tones of information on Actors, films, trailers and the like. I
found all of these useful in my research and planning for Outbreak. The horror trailers
provided, along with the brief plot summaries/synopsis' provoked inspiration for our
production work, allowing the trailer to be the best it could be.
5. Itunes played a major part in selecting the music for the trailer. Provided for us by our
school, we were given access to loads of music not copyrighted by any artist, meaning
they were available to use in our production work. It also made it far easier to transfer
the selected music to the trailer in iMovie, effectively lessening the time spent on
editing.
After Effects was used in the making of our production company logo and the film title
at the beginning and end of our trailer. This helped transform the frames of lifeless
text into creative compositions, bettering our work.
Imovie played a major part in the construction of our trailer. It helped with the editing
of our footage, enabling us to move clips around, enhance colouring and lighting, and
overlay sounds such as music and voice overs, producing a realistic movie trailer.
6. This camera was one of the most used media technologies for our production. It
allowed us to film in high quality, using varied camera shots and focusses, increasing
the authenticity of the trailer produced. Its light weight and portability enabled these
shots to be captured.
The voice recorder assisted us in the recording of the voice over of the news reader
used at the start of our trailer. It also allowed us to rerecord original sounds from the
footage to make them stronger and clearer; this technique was used for the dialogue
and female scream mid trailer.
Celtx is software designed to assist in the screenplay; due to our dialogue being
minimal however, this program was not fully required – we used it near the beginning
of planning to allow clear organisation of characters and scenes.
