• Is a way of looking at teaching and learning.
Underlying any language teaching approach is a
theoretical view of what language is and of how it can
be learnt. An approach gives rise to methods – the
way of teaching something – which use classroom
activities or techniques to help learners learn.

Parts Description
Objectives Provide goals to be attained, give direction to class discussion, and calls for what
outcomes to expect.
Content/Subject Matter Depends on the field of study the teacher specializes; sources of content in
preparing a lesson plan may include syllabus, the national curriculum and the
textbooks used.
Materials Depends on the availability of instruction materials, the needs of the learners, the
subject to be taught, and the environment.
Procedures Dependent on the field of study, the specific method of teaching utilized and the
preference of the teacher with regards to his/her style of teaching and learning

Work assigned to students by teachers to be completed outside of the school

  • 3. APPROACH • Is a way of looking at teaching and learning. Underlying any language teaching approach is a theoretical view of what language is and of how it can be learnt. An approach gives rise to methods – the way of teaching something – which use classroom activities or techniques to help learners learn.

Materials Depends on the availability of instruction materials, the needs of the learners, the subject to be taught, and the environment. Procedures Dependent on the field of study, the specific method of teaching utilized and the preference of the teacher with regards to his/her style of teaching and learning Assignment/Homework/ Agreement Work assigned to students by teachers to be completed outside of the school
