Composites Module : Students discover what composite materials are and test them to learn their advantages over pure materials. Finally, at the end of the workshop, they design new composite materials. The product Idea: To cover the football stadiums of Qatar in an effective way that would allow us to keep the temperature low, benefit from the sunlight during the day, and be able to turn on the air conditions.The first layer of the stadium cover is a transparent heat insulator, topped by a layer of helium gas that will lift the cover up. The last layer is made of plastic to contain the helium gas in between and provide extra insulation. After combining the three materials together we were able to create an eco-friendly transparent, heat insulator roof.

Composite materials are materials
made from two or more constituent
materials with significantly different
physical or chemical properties, that
when combined, produce a material
with characteristics different from the
individual components.

5. Objective: Test the strength of three
different samples of ice

6. In this activity we tested the
strength of three different samples
of ice and this was by mixing
different types of materials in the
water. In sample (A) it was only
water. Sample (B) included some
tissues. And in Sample (C) we
inserted many different types of
materials such as paper, straws,
and leaves.

7. • Sample A took with us only one attempt and
shattered into pieces.
• Sample B however, took several trails to
break.
• Sample C took more than 20 throws to
break.
