PROJECT BRIEF
• London Heathrow Airport is the busiest
international airport in the world
• Terminal 1 had been out of date and
badly in need of refurbishment, with the
40-year old building not seeing any
significant updates since it was built in
the 60s.
• as well as the upcoming opening of
Terminal 5 and the introduction of
international passengers to Terminal 1

Focus on renovation versus new construction
Installation of energy-saving and sustainable

Replacing existing systems with the new ones like office
network system, flight info screens, regulatory systems for
passenger processing & closed-circuit TV
RISK MANAGEMENT
Develop and maintain two primary risk management
schedules
Risk management schedules were reviewed, updated
and published through a formal review meeting
Health & safety challenge
Adopt safety department to find out risks involved for
every contractor

CONCLUSION
• Heathrow airport terminal 1 has completed on time and with in budget
• It has good health and safety records without reported incidents
• Effective teamwork between numerous contractors, suppliers, stakeholders and
various support functions.
• All challenges were successfully met by the project team.
