2. When theTV
listing started
RadioTimes first appeared on the 28th September 1923.This was
when the first edition, ‘the official organ of the BBC’ appeared on
news stands. It began life as a joint venture between BBC and the
publisher George Newnes Ltd who were responsible for producing,
printing and distributing the magazine. However it was the 2nd
November that it officially became the world's first television
listings magazine.

TheTV listing covers a wide variety of channels, all of which show
different tv shows and films and have different target audiences
for each channel.This means that the target audience for thisTV
listing are people who watch any of the channels that are covered,
including BBCTwo, the channel that our documentary will be on.

We have chosen to use thisTV listing as it covers the channel that
our documentary will be on, BBCTwo. Because of this it will be
able to be seen by people who are reading the listing to see what
channels will be on BBCTwo. It is also very popular and one of the
most selling tv listing magazines so more readers will see it, so
people who do not watch BBCTwo will still see that our
documentary is being shown.Therefore we are able to reach a
wider audience instead of limiting ourselves.
