2. Chosen tv listing
For our documentary, we will be using the radio times as our tv listing
to air our documentary and this is because the radio times has a vast
target audience and shares the same target audience as our
documentary “Anti-Social media” which is teenagers and young adults,
both genders aged 16-21. The Radio times tv listing includes many
channels as well as the desired tv channel we will be airing our
documentary on which will be the BBC. These channels usually consists
of Tv shows, News, sports, films and documentaries.
3. Radio Times history
Radio Times is a British weekly television and radio program listing magazine. It was first
broadcasted in 1923 by John Reith when it was first founded. John Reith then later became
the general manager of the BBC. It was published by BBC Magazines from 1937 until 2011
when the BBC Magazines division merged into Immediate Media company.
In 1928, the Radio Times announced a series of experimental television transmissions by
the Baird process for half hour in the mornings.
On September 3rd 1939, television and broadcasting ceased because Britain declared war
on Germany. After the war the radio times expanded and television resumed.
By 1950, the radio times had become the largest and most successful circulation in Europe
with an average sales of 8.8 million in 1955.
The radio times carried programme listings for the BBC Radio and television channels only,
while the ITV-published magazine, TVTimes carried television programme listings for ITV
and channel 4.
4. What kind of shows air on the Radio Times?
The Radio times usually consists of TV shows, News, films,
documentaries and more. The most popular content which is often
shown would be on the main TV channels such as the BBC, ITV or Sky.
Each tv channel would show different content appealing to different
audiences such as BBC ONE which mostly consists of news. All these Tv
channels will have different advertisements which will appeal to people
who watch certain tv channels.
