2. Placed headline and article onto the
double page spread and linked the text
boxes together. Downloaded a font from
DaFont for the headline.
This was the original layout to begin
with as we felt that this may have been
better for when we added the main
image.
The article is taken and placed onto the
magazine as it was written originally
meaning there has been no spell check
or grammar check.
The font for tattoos and piercings was
the first choice and felt like it would be
suitable for this type of magazine.
3. Swapped the headline to the left side of the
page as people normally read from left to right
meaning the headline will stand out more.
Added a byline and the masthead for radio
times as well as adding a background to work
on. I added the background as I felt having a
simple white background would be too plain
and therefore would not stand out to the
readers.
The article still has not been checked and will
be checked when it is being arranged with the
images.
4. Added a standfirst and put the date and time
underneath the headline on the double page
spread. I decided to place the date and time
under the standfirst so that it is the third thing
the reader will see, the headline, then the
standfirst explaining what it is about and then the
date and time.
I chose this standfirst as it is roughly taken from
the article as it talks about how there is a stigma
in society and our documentary is suppose to
challenge this.
5. This is where the most drastic change took
place while editing the magazine, the
main image and a secondary image have
been added with the article wrapped
around the images.
The main image has been placed at the
bottom center of the magazine so that
due to rule of thirds, it stands out as it it in
the direct middle and also is quite large.
The secondary image has been placed at
the part of the magazine where it is
relevant and is also quite large.
I added the background so that the
background did not seem empty but
neither was it too distracting for the
reader.
I also have a pull quote directly from the
article that I felt is relevant to the ideas
behind it.
I feel that this magazine can relate to feminist theory as the magazine is about
tattoos and piercings, with tattoos often having a connotation with mainly men,
however the woman is the first person you see who is tattooing and the images
feature clearly more females than males.
6. The most clear difference for the
magazine here is the background as I
decided that the simple grey and white
would not be enough to help make the
article stand out to the reader.
The background itself is of different
tattoos that people get while being a
range of colours. I edited the image so
that it would have less fill and less
opacity so that it would not distract too
much from the main images and article.
I also decided on using a different font as
I felt the original font was too cartoonish
or childish and this font is more suitable
for a serious documentary and article
about tattoos and piercings.
7. After receiving feedback from others
about the magazine, I made the main
image much larger so that it filled up the
whole of the two pages and therefore
rearranged the rest of the magazine
such as the article and secondary image
to fit.
I also changed the background of the
magazine as I felt like the range of
colours and the blur made it distracting
and potentially uncomfortable for a
reader to look at so I decided to change
the background back to what it was in
the main image but instead reduce fill
and opacity so it would be easier on the
eyes while adding to the main image
itself.
I also changed the font size of some of
the letters in the standfirst as the font
caused letters like ‘S’ or ‘G’ to be much
larger than others.
8. I decided that it would be best to make
the image slightly larger and to move it to
the right so that her face would not be
split by the two different pages and is
therefore clearer for the audience.
I also changed the date and time to be in
the top left to make more space on the
magazine so it did not look crowded.
I have added annotations to each of the
images explaining what they are.
The article has been edited so that it
does not lose any important information
while not causing any blank space as well
as fitting on the magazine.
