3. Introduction of Water
• Water is one of the most common and useful substances around us.
• Water is a natural resources.
• Water is a tasteless, odorless and colorless compound.
• Water is made of two atom of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen.
• 2𝐻2 + 𝑂2 2𝐻2O
Hydrogen Oxygen Water
22 March is celebrated as “World Water Day”
4. Sources of Water
Rain Water : Rain Water is a main sources of water, in India,
large areas of land depend on rain water for irrigation.
Ground Water: The level of ground water below the surface of
Earth at a given place is known as the water table .
Surface Water: Rain water that is found on the surface of the
Earth is called surface water.
Oceans and Seas : oceans are the ultimate source of water on
Earth and most of the water on Earth is stored in seas and oceans .
Polar Ice Caps: The water in the Arctic and Antarctic is frozen
into glaciers and polar ice caps.
5. Importance of water for
sustaining life
• All the living things on Earth
depend upon water.
• Plants need water to make food
through photosynthesis.
• Seeds cannot germinate
without water.
• Animals as well as plant need
water to survive grow.
• The blood in our body is mostly
made up of water.
• Water also helps animals to
keep cool.
• Human body 70%
• Elephant 80%
• Tree 60%
• Jellyfish 95%
• Bread 30%
• Milk 87%
• Tomato 90%
• Orange 85%
• Potato 80%

6. States of Water
A. Below 𝟎℃, water exists
in the solid state i.e. as
snow cover mountain
and glaciers
B. Between 𝟎℃ and 𝟏𝟎𝟎℃ ,
water exists in the liquid
state.
C. Above 𝟏𝟎𝟎℃, water
exists in the gaseous
state.
Solid
Gas
Liquid
I. In nature, water exists as solid ice on high mountains,
II. As liquid water in rivers, lakes, seas and Oceans
III.As gaseous water vapour in the air
7. Reasons of Depletion of
Water
Increasing Population
Increasing Industries
Agricultural Activities
Unequal distribution Rainfall
Deforestation
Ground water depletion
Surface water contamination
8. Conservation of Water
POPULATION CONTROL
DRIP IRRIGATION
RAINWATER HARVESTING
WATER REUSE
RATIONAL USE OF GROUND WATER
9. Here are some tips to conserve water.
• Close the tap while brushing teeth.
• Use the water from washing rice, vegetables or
fruits for watering the plants at home.
• Mop the floor instead of washing it daily.
• Get the leaking taps repaired immediately.
Leaking taps waste a lot of water.
10. Conclusion
Water is a important natural
resource. So, we should try to
conserve water as for as
possible…!!!
