One of the great irony of successful companies is how easily they can fail. New companies are founded to take advantage of some new technology. They become highly successful and but when the technology shifts, something new comes along, they are unable to adapt and fail. This is the innovator’s dilemma. Then there are companies that manage to survive. For example, Kodak survived two platform shift, only til fail the third. IBM has survived over 100 years. What do successful companies do differently?

“This is heavy reading, but well worth it. Remember your college philosophy classes and associated textbooks? Well, Flaherty takes the beauty and probing questions of philosophy and creates practical use of them by applying them to the art of coaching. Flaherty relies heavily on a few of his favorite modern philosophers, and takes their discoveries and theories and converts them into assessment models, enrollment techniques, etc. What you end up with is a very lucid, free flowing book that allows the coach to see the client as a human being with varying motivations, competencies, agendas, etc., and frees us from the trap of attempting to coach our clients into becoming ourselves (someone with our values, motivations, etc.); instead allowing them to grow into their own self-correcting, self-generating person.” Amazon Customer "Child of the World.” She says it in a nutshell. Those philosophers include Fernando Flores, Humberto Maturana, and William Barrett, whom you might not have heard of; and several you probably have. But Flaherty simplifies into practicality and usability. If you coach, or want to be one, his work is stunningly necessary.

Based on the ideas popularized by the Lean Startup movement, this presentation provides an overview of the customer development process. Customer development is the process of honing your idea of your ideal customer into a real, referenceable customer known as an Earlyvangelist. This presentation builds on the ideas of Steve Blank, Marty Cagan and Alex Osterwalder to help product leaders reduce market risk by inexpensively validating ideas in parallel to creating the actual solution.

Clayton Christensen's Jobs-to-be-done approach describe a series of steps to create innovation systematically. This deck describes the application of the methodology to the creation of the Avaya Flare User Experience, the Avaya Digital Video Device and the related enterprise cloud offer. We found key for success is to add focus on emotions. And the result to be a condensed job description as more work is required to detail the solutions that it becomes testable against objectives and barriers.

Apple’s IPhone was first revealed in January 2007. Out of curiosity I pondered through Nokia’s quarterly presentation slides in the years 2007-2010 in order to get a better idea about how they related to the ongoing shift from feature phones to smartphones. While such a brief and shallow review will not give the full picture of Nokia’s response, it might still reveal something.

This presentation is on the theory of disruption by Clayton Christensen. While it is easy to explain why bad companies fail it is hard to understand how good companies, who are supposedly do everything right, fail in the end. The theory of disruption offers different ways of thinking to capture this phenomenon. I explain the theoretical foundations and present a popular example of a new market disruption (the iphone). In the end the different key points of disruption are summarized.

We’re all camping at UX Camp West, so I thought I’d use the metaphor of a tent to share with you my view on the field of User Experience. I will describe the 7 poles of the tent's structure (research, design, evaluation, implementation, business, strategy, and management) and show you some random objects that I found in its corners. It is my goal that afterwards, we can all appreciate the beauty of the big tent, and realise how we contribute to a happy stay.

This presentation provides an introduction to quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis and marker-assisted selection (MAS) in plant breeding. The presentation begins by explaining the type of quantitative traits. The process of QTL analysis, including the use of molecular genetic markers and statistical methods, is discussed. Practical examples demonstrating the power of MAS are provided, such as its use in improving crop traits in plant breeding programs. Overall, this presentation offers a comprehensive overview of these important genomics-based approaches that are transforming modern agriculture.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Size separation, or sieving, is a technique to segregate particles by size, vital in pharmaceuticals, food processing, and mining. Methods include sieving (particles pass through mesh sieves), sedimentation (based on settling velocities in fluid), cyclone separation (using centrifugal forces), and filtration (using barriers with specific pore sizes). Applications range from ensuring uniform drug formulations to grading grains and extracting minerals. Size separation offers efficiency, precision, and versatility, making it essential for quality control and consistency across various industries.
