Textual analysis- contents pages
Main title
• The title for this contents page is ‘we love this’ which links to the title of
the magazine which is ‘we love pop’.
• The font is black and bold which makes it stand out against the rest of the
writing on the page. It also goes with the rest of the writing as its all in
black
• It has been positioned at the top of the page in the centre. This is usually
where the title of a contents page is as it’s the first thing you see and you
know what information is below.
• Its also been wrote in capitals for the same reason as I said before, which
was to make it stand out and draw attention to it.
Main image
• There is a lot of images on this page but the main one I would say is the
biggest one in the centre.
• The image fun and exciting, this is because of the facial expressions and
the poses they are doing.
• Another you could say about the image is that the outfits they are wearing
are brightly coloured which are the colours for a typical pop magazine as
they make the image and the artists stand out.
• Even if you haven't seen the front cover you will probably know by seeing
the contents page that the band image is who the main articles about.
• The photo of them is filling the full space as they have been positioned in
the frame on different levels and sides so that they can all fit in the shot in
a way that looks effective.
Headings, page numbers and brief
descriptions
• Each one of the bigger images on the top where the writing is all have a
page number, description and a quote from the article that the artist has
said next to them. This is helpful when looking for a page number quickly.
It also gives people a first look at what sort of stuff is inside and what each
articles about. The quote has been put in blue writing so tat it stands out,
this is important for the reader that it stands out to them as it is
something they need to read in order to know whether they will be
interested in.
• The other page numbers are listed underneath with a description what is
on each page. The colours alternate between pink and black with the
page number always being much bigger than the text so that its made
clear where to find it.
• The last thing that is a description on the page is the log but of text next to
the artists In the main picture, which is about them but someone else has
wrote it about another previous image of them.
Layout
• The page is layed out with the title at the top centre of the page, which is
common for most contents pages in most magazines. This is because it
leaves more room for the rest of the information to go underneath
• Then under that is the main image, like I mentioned before is the res of
the page numbers with a brief description. This is in a separate box to the
rest of the page to split it off from it.
• Next to that on the right hand side and going vertically down the edge of
the page is other images that are related to some of the content inside.
• The last part of the page is right at the bottom where it has a group of
different posters.
Main title
• The main title says ‘inside the mag’ which is simple and easy for younger
readers to understand what this page I and what its telling you.
• The title is in big white writing on a pink background so that it stands out.
The reason that they might have done this is because its more exciting
than just having pink writing on a white background which is usually what
happens when you want to include colour. So this is a different and unique
way of doing it.
• The title is positioned at the top of the page in the centre.
Main image
• The main image for this is actually a photo of the front cover with lines
coming off it pointing to different sections of the image telling the reader
what page that particular image or sell line was on.
Headings, page numbers and brief
descriptions
• On the rest of the page there is 6 other headings. Like wins and offers, we
love shopping and celebs and gossip. Underneath each on of these there is
a list of pages and their titles that apply to that particular section.
• Then next to each and every one of the bullet points in in each box there is
a page number of where you can find each one.
• There is also two diffident images that have been put in amongst some of
these boxes. Both of them have been chosen and put next to something
that they link to within that area of the magazine.
Colours and layout
• The colour scheme is pink and yellow these are typical pop magazine colours. They
are also good colours together which stand out and look exciting
• The page is laid out with the title at the top of the page, with the main image
underneath to the left hand side of the page. This image is a photo of the front
cover with annotations. Then the rest of the page has been split up into 6 separate
and different text boxes, which are all page numbers and a description of what's
on each page. And the only other thing that’s on the page is two images which are
just put in with the different boxes they are relevant to.
Main title
• The main title for this contents page says ‘inside your MAG…’ This has a
similar title as one I've previously looked at as it is the same magazine.
• This is a good title as it tells anyone who might not have ever read a
magazine before what this page is and how it might help them out. This is
a good thing that its at the top of the page because it needs to be one of
the first things the reader sees on this particular page.
• The colours that have been used within the title are white, purple and
black. These colours have been used well together by having purple as the
background colour and white as the writing colour as it stands out well
against it. Then the black was used for the word ‘mag’ this was also wrote
in capital letters so it is obvious that this word stood out the most.
Main image
• The main image is again the cover, this is so they can tell the reader what
page number certain parts of the cover page are on.
• The main image does stand out against the rest of the magazine as the
magazine cover had a lot of orange in it and the contents page was mostly
purple. This might have been done on purpose to ensure it stood out.
Headings, page numbers and brief
descriptions
• There are a lot of other heading on the page, for example celebs and
gossip, wins and offers and all about you.
• Most of these sections have page numbers in them taking you to certain
pages in the magazine which is described next to each number. This is
apart from one section which is a sort of ‘column style’ short article on a
artist which one of the magazines writers has wrote, then an image of
them and the artist at the bottom. This is something different for a
contents page and makes it a little bit more exciting rather than it just
having page numbers.
• In every section there is a related image which ties I with what's being
said.
Colour and layout
• The colour of this full page is mainly purple and white with different
coloured images.
• The way that this page has ben set out is by first off having the title in the
top corner of the page in a speech bubble. This particular way of
displaying the title of very common in many pop magazines as its very fun.
• Then the rest of the page is just separate sections for each category of
pages in the magazines with their page number.
• And the last thing on the page is a lot of smaller images spread about
according to how relevant they are to that part of the page.
Reflection
• I chose the first contents page as it had a lot of images and colour. It was
also very eye catching.
• I liked the last two contents pages I chose because they both had images
of the front cover on them with arrows and lines coming off them to
indicate where in the magazine things were linked to the sell lines on the
cover. Another thing I liked about them was the use of colour and the
layout.

This is usually where the title of a contents page is as it’s the first thing you see and you know what information is below. • Its also been wrote in capitals for the same reason as I said before, which was to make it stand out and draw attention to it.
  • 4. Main image • There is a lot of images on this page but the main one I would say is the biggest one in the centre. • The image fun and exciting, this is because of the facial expressions and the poses they are doing. • Another you could say about the image is that the outfits they are wearing are brightly coloured which are the colours for a typical pop magazine as they make the image and the artists stand out. • Even if you haven't seen the front cover you will probably know by seeing the contents page that the band image is who the main articles about. • The photo of them is filling the full space as they have been positioned in the frame on different levels and sides so that they can all fit in the shot in a way that looks effective.
  • 5. Headings, page numbers and brief descriptions • Each one of the bigger images on the top where the writing is all have a page number, description and a quote from the article that the artist has said next to them. This is helpful when looking for a page number quickly. It also gives people a first look at what sort of stuff is inside and what each articles about. The quote has been put in blue writing so tat it stands out, this is important for the reader that it stands out to them as it is something they need to read in order to know whether they will be interested in. • The other page numbers are listed underneath with a description what is on each page. The colours alternate between pink and black with the page number always being much bigger than the text so that its made clear where to find it. • The last thing that is a description on the page is the log but of text next to the artists In the main picture, which is about them but someone else has wrote it about another previous image of them.
  • 6. Layout • The page is layed out with the title at the top centre of the page, which is common for most contents pages in most magazines. This is because it leaves more room for the rest of the information to go underneath • Then under that is the main image, like I mentioned before is the res of the page numbers with a brief description. This is in a separate box to the rest of the page to split it off from it. • Next to that on the right hand side and going vertically down the edge of the page is other images that are related to some of the content inside. • The last part of the page is right at the bottom where it has a group of different posters.

  • 8. Main title • The main title says ‘inside the mag’ which is simple and easy for younger readers to understand what this page I and what its telling you. • The title is in big white writing on a pink background so that it stands out. The reason that they might have done this is because its more exciting than just having pink writing on a white background which is usually what happens when you want to include colour. So this is a different and unique way of doing it. • The title is positioned at the top of the page in the centre.
  • 9. Main image • The main image for this is actually a photo of the front cover with lines coming off it pointing to different sections of the image telling the reader what page that particular image or sell line was on.
  • 10. Headings, page numbers and brief descriptions • On the rest of the page there is 6 other headings. Like wins and offers, we love shopping and celebs and gossip. Underneath each on of these there is a list of pages and their titles that apply to that particular section. • Then next to each and every one of the bullet points in in each box there is a page number of where you can find each one. • There is also two diffident images that have been put in amongst some of these boxes. Both of them have been chosen and put next to something that they link to within that area of the magazine.
  • 11. Colours and layout • The colour scheme is pink and yellow these are typical pop magazine colours. They are also good colours together which stand out and look exciting • The page is laid out with the title at the top of the page, with the main image underneath to the left hand side of the page. This image is a photo of the front cover with annotations. Then the rest of the page has been split up into 6 separate and different text boxes, which are all page numbers and a description of what's on each page. And the only other thing that’s on the page is two images which are just put in with the different boxes they are relevant to.

  • 13. Main title • The main title for this contents page says ‘inside your MAG…’ This has a similar title as one I've previously looked at as it is the same magazine. • This is a good title as it tells anyone who might not have ever read a magazine before what this page is and how it might help them out. This is a good thing that its at the top of the page because it needs to be one of the first things the reader sees on this particular page. • The colours that have been used within the title are white, purple and black. These colours have been used well together by having purple as the background colour and white as the writing colour as it stands out well against it. Then the black was used for the word ‘mag’ this was also wrote in capital letters so it is obvious that this word stood out the most.
  • 14. Main image • The main image is again the cover, this is so they can tell the reader what page number certain parts of the cover page are on. • The main image does stand out against the rest of the magazine as the magazine cover had a lot of orange in it and the contents page was mostly purple. This might have been done on purpose to ensure it stood out.
  • 15. Headings, page numbers and brief descriptions • There are a lot of other heading on the page, for example celebs and gossip, wins and offers and all about you. • Most of these sections have page numbers in them taking you to certain pages in the magazine which is described next to each number. This is apart from one section which is a sort of ‘column style’ short article on a artist which one of the magazines writers has wrote, then an image of them and the artist at the bottom. This is something different for a contents page and makes it a little bit more exciting rather than it just having page numbers. • In every section there is a related image which ties I with what's being said.
  • 16. Colour and layout • The colour of this full page is mainly purple and white with different coloured images. • The way that this page has ben set out is by first off having the title in the top corner of the page in a speech bubble. This particular way of displaying the title of very common in many pop magazines as its very fun. • Then the rest of the page is just separate sections for each category of pages in the magazines with their page number. • And the last thing on the page is a lot of smaller images spread about according to how relevant they are to that part of the page.
  • 17. Reflection • I chose the first contents page as it had a lot of images and colour. It was also very eye catching. • I liked the last two contents pages I chose because they both had images of the front cover on them with arrows and lines coming off them to indicate where in the magazine things were linked to the sell lines on the cover. Another thing I liked about them was the use of colour and the layout.
