Initial planning ideas
1. Initial Ideas
Starting the video I didn’t have any clear ideas on what I wanted my video to look
like. I knew from the beginning that I didn’t want to have a performance video. I
wanted to have a fast song with the idea of making a happy video, this was due to the
reason that I thought a sad/slow song would limit me to what I could and couldn’t do
idea wise. Having chosen a song I decided to use the fact that I was going to Zambia
to my advantage and film half my video there and half when I came back to England.
The rest of the video I would put together once I figured out where my video was
heading.
Type of Approach
The type approach I decided to take was a video that didn’t have a strict narrative and
could be interpreted in different ways depending on how people saw the video. My
approach was to create a video that showed both African and English cultures with the
narrative that everyone is beautiful.
Locations
The three I thought to have in the video were London, Zambia and a studio. Due to
the reason that I was going to Zambia in the summer, I thought it were a good
opportunity to use that to my advantage in order to make my video more interesting. I
took footage of my journey on the way to Zambia and back from the plane. I decided
to have more cultural interesting footage, showing the people of Zambia. I intended to
film people having fun and living their everyday life. When coming back to England I
thought to go to Hyde Park and shoot footage of street performers and go to a skate
park, this was due to the fact that I wanted my video to have footage of people having
fun and enjoying themselves. In the studio I filmed a girl putting on her makeup, with
this footage I intended to reverse it in order to bring forth the idea that people don’t
need makeup to be beautiful. The studio had infinite darkness which made the model
stand out.
