2. 1-Story and how this is told during the
video
• The story of there date was portrayed through the stereotypical locations they
went to.
- Carrousel
- Pier
- Beach
- Bench
Showing them smiling and laughing with close ups on there faces the premise of the
date is portrayed.
My story was told through a romantic genre , conforming with the ideals of a romantic
comedy music video.
Applying Andrew Goodwin's theory –
lyrics and visuals- “love is easy” holding hands , smiling .
music and visuals- jumping down stairs in chorus.
Star performance – Anthony part of band and in the video
Performance
3. 5-Style of your video
• My music video combined Narrative and performance.
• The performance aspect was derived from Anthony singing
booth set up in the studio showing the real pop singer.
• Whereas the Narrative was played through the love story at
the seaside .
• Having these two opposing conventions they worked
together to show Anthony as the star idol and focus his
storyline around him with the girl taking a more minor role
as the my target audience would like there to be more of a
focus on him .
• This is from market research of one direction and the
vamps.
4. 4-How the ‘artist’ is portrayed
• Having the artist as a star image showing him singing in the studio and showing his
charm on the date , allows the conventions of a typical heart throb.
• Portraying him as an average guy the young teenage audience would cling on to
this, which is why I wanted to show him as happy and fun.
5. 5- Style models
• On of my style models was one of the most
iconic romantic movies “Titanic”
• By taking a long slow motion shot of the wind
pose , it portrayed to the audience the
cheesiness and sarcastic nature of the video.
6. 6-Setting/location
• My location was originally planned to be at a country park , but after the
recent floods that was not possible. Changing it to the beach it opened up
many options for the scenery of the sand and sea. Also creating many
more vast areas to film allowing me to have more frequent establishing
shots.
7. 7-Camerawork and editing
• Using the steadycam when filming was originally difficult as getting the balance
with the wind and staying still was complicated .
• Editing the lip syncing became challenging as my actors had to be dead on with the
words. Later on within editing it was clear I needed to add in further lip syncing to
connect with the singer earlier on.
8. 8-The opening of your video
• The opening and closing of my video was important as it had to establish the date
straight away .
• By using the fish eye effect at the beginning it showed the stereotype of old
romantic films, showing the typical love story . By adding this at the end it showed
the story did a full circle.
9. 9-Costumes and props
• The costumes worn for filming were adapted from my initial ideas, I originally
wanted the female in a red dress with wellies showing the festival theme. However
on filming day I wanted to carry on the red theme but the red jacket still connoted
lust and love but had to adapt to the windy weather conditions.
• The boy was originally supposed to be in a shirt which was not followed on the day
however the bland washed out colours worked well in juxtaposition to the red
jacket the girl wore. However my idea for dressing down his bottom half worked
well for the informal date .
• As I researched more into this genre of music videos it was evident the dressing
down theme was seen throughout as it made them seen casual and normal to
there aspiring fans.
