In Wole Soyinka s play, Death and the King s Horseman, the English presence in Nigeria is well
established. As each scene goes by the audience can feel European colonialism lurking heavily in the
background. With this English influence on the Yoruba people the community is swept with
unsteadiness and conflict. The dominant events in Soyinka s play symbolize a larger conflict; although
the English believe they are shedding light and bringing progress to the Nigerians, the Nigerians don t
welcome these foreigners and only wish to continue their cultural ways in peace. Soyinka argues that
although the English believe what they are doing is necessary, they are the ones who are intruding on
someone else s culture and they should respect that, no matter how uncivilized or odd it may seem.
Not accepting and misunderstanding one another s culture is a leading conflict in this play. The Yoruba
community has very different beliefs on death compared to the English. When speaking of death,
Elesin states: When the hour comes watch me dance along the narrowing path gazed by the soles of
my great precursors. My soul is eager (Soyinka, 10). In contrast, Jane believes that this view is
nonsense. Life should never be thrown away deliberately (Soyinka, 42) The Yoruba community

extensive the process for drum making actually is, the Basongye people ensure every groove and nook

article is to show how the Basongye Bala folks create drums, that it is not the only investigation that
will occur. Any ethnographic investigation can lead to almost anything else; one study can inevitably

Over the last several decades, American politics scholars have sought to understand the causes of
increasing partisanship and polarization in the United States Congress. Since the 1970s, the
ideological positions of the two major U.S. parties, the Democratic and Republican parties, have
widened (Abramowitz and Saunders, 2008; Levendusky; 2010). This ideological divide also promotes
a perception among the American public that Congress has increasingly become ineffective and
polarized to a point where political parties in government no longer compromise on policy for the
good of the country. In recent years, a new concern has arisen regarding unlimited spending in
elections by outside groups permitted after the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in Citizens United v.
FEC (2010) and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals decision in SpeechNOW.org v. FEC (2010) (Mann
and Corroado, 2014). Both decisions allow unlimited independent expenditures for political
advertisements, ad buys, and other electioneering communications during elections. Furthermore,
there is an increase and heightened unease of outside undisclosed donors, or dark money, who may
have undue influences on political, electoral, and policy outcomes (Mann and Corroado, 2014; Federal
Election Commission). Thus, does independent campaign expenditures spend have detrimental or
undue influences on polarization and policy outcomes by promoting more extreme ideological

I did something crazy this weekend and traveled two states away to see my brothers and their families.
I have a BP visa card from Chase. I was filling our van up with gas in Pennsylvania and it got
declined.
Ironic Occurrence Number 1: My BP Visa Card was declined when I was filling up with gas at a BP
station!
Actually, I didn t know it was declined at the time. The readout at the pump said see cashier . So, I
tried again and it failed again and told me to see cashier again.
So, ya know what I did? I went and saw the cashier.
He was a nice guy with a Indian accent. Who d a thunk it? A guy from India at a gas station? Yep. He
was very helpful and told me I vas sviping it too vast . So, he came out with me and showed me how
to svipe it slower. And after he did...the result was still see cashier .
Ironic Occurrence Number 2: The gas pump told the cashier he should see himself.
So, I used my other credit card and it worked fine.
I immediately called the phone number on the back of the card and I spoke to another person from
India. This time I think the person was actually located in India! She told me my credit card was
placed on hold for security reasons. She then asked me all sorts of verifying questions; mother s
maiden name, last four digits of my social security number, whether I was circumcised or not and then
told me everything was okay and my purchases should go through from now on.
And, that s not what happened.

In an article titled Peaceful Revolution in Czechoslovakia from Economic and Political Weekly, a
social science journal created in India in 1949 that covers international topics, the beginnings of the
Prague Spring were told as of April 27th, 1968. The tone of the article is optimistic about the new
liberalization seen in Czechoslovakia to this point, but there is also a tone of uncertainty about what
exactly will happen. The author of the article knows that major changes are being made, so quickly
that it has become difficult to keep track of the developments that are unfolding practically every day,
but there is little sense of what they will lead to in the future for Czechoslovakia. The article mentions

The ending of the book was just as I expected it, George killing Lennie but I would have liked it if
they showed more feelings during the shooting. Overall I don t recommend this book for children and
that it tells a great story of friendship and the american dream. The movie shows a lot of bad language
