The Punishment of Malvolio Essay
In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night, the characters endure the fruits of their foolishness at the end of
the play, but Malvolio endures a greater suffering and greater embarrassment than the rest of the
characters. This is not simply by chance or whimsy: but this is Shakespeare s stratification of the vices
that a person may take upon him or herself. With this stratification, Shakespeare allocates Malvolio s
vices of pride, usurping the social order, and dour temperament as the worst of character flaws, and
that is why Malvolio receives the harshest punishment. Before examining the punishment that
Malvolio endures, it is necessary to examine his flaws and offenses. His arrival in the play is with
criticism of Feste, and that initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malvolio is treading the ground of criminal offense against a lord, who is also the cousin of his Lady.
Beyond the offense upon the higher strata of society, Malvolio is also demonstrating his dour
temperament in this scene which is also problematic. The importance of mirth and joviality is affirmed
throughout the play, and for some characters, their greatest virtue is the ability to enjoy and be
passionate for life. Malvolio stands in opposition to this with his protests and derision, and in the play
he is the only character that takes offense to other characters enjoying their lives. The hostile
environment he creates is important to note because it gives the other characters an impetus to deal
with his troublesome personality in order to enjoy their own pleasures and pursuits. The last encounter
where Malvolio extends his grievances is the second encounter with Sir Toby. Their encounter takes
place after Malvolio s pride is incensed by the false note of Olivia, so his actions go even further in
displaying his own ego and lack of regard for his superiors. Not only does he instruct Sir Toby and
Maria to, go hang yourselves, (III.iv.120) but he also claims that he is no longer of their, element
(III.iv.121). The implication is that he has ascended beyond Sir Toby and Maria, but that is merely the
delusion of his ego. In this scene he

The Pros And Cons Of Network Neutrality
Network neutrality is something that almost all people have an opinion on. Very few people could
think about the idea of all information on the internet being neutral, without getting an instant opinion.
The idea that companies, government, and organizations would have the ability to sensor and choose
what comes up on any internet searches. The two sides are as stated: everything that comes up on the
internet should be unbiased (thus resulting neutral ). The other side states that the internet, companies,
etc should be able to use our past internet searches to help us and make the results more relatable our
lives. This concept, that most don t think about, has been debated for over a decade; at this point, there
is still no definitive

Tuberculosis Is A Disease That Affects Other Populations
Tuberculosis is a disease that affects many individuals throughout the world, and not always with the
same prevalence rates. For this research paper my goal is to explain and illustrate why certain
populations tend to have higher infection rates of tuberculosis than the average population in the
United States and what causes these higher rates. At what point do health officials step in and work on
prevention in these specific populations and why are we not implementing the tuberculosis shot for
these populations? The topic of Tuberculosis is significant as it affects many populations, but it also
does not affect all populations equally. Tuberculosis has an increased prevalence rate in homeless
individuals, African Americans, and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are currently a variety of vaccinations that are being tested and/or used throughout the world,
although they are rarely used in the United States (Kupferschmidt, 2011). There are several research
centers across the nation that are taking part of the research and development of these new vaccines
including Harvard University and the University of California, Los Angeles (Kupferschmidt, 2011).
These vaccinations are of great importance to some individuals, but its use is not perfect across all
samples (Kupferschmidt, 2011). Tuberculosis was first discovered as a disease in 1882 by a scientist
named Robert Koch (Rothman, 1994). Within a short period of time it was discovered that this was an
infectious disease, along with being a disease that affected certain populations (Rothman, 1994). It
was discovered that a vast majority of the individuals affected were either immigrant, therefore
generally a minority population, or were of poor or working class status (Rothman, 1994). Several
movements and directives were used during this time to attempt to stop the spread of tuberculosis,
such as, being outside in the clean air as much as possible, not drinking alcohol, and drinking plenty of
clean water, among others (Rothman, 1994). Between 1906 and 1919 a vaccine was developed by
Albert Calmette and Camille Geurin, a pair of French scientists, to help prevent this terrible disease
(Kupferschmidt, 2011). This BCG vaccine, or Bacillus

Analysis Of I Ll Be Forty-Three On Friday
I ll Be Forty Three on Friday (How I m Living Now) presents a relatively simple premise that of a
man on the precipice of growing older walking through a park and thinking while revealing a complex
lens into life as the man perceives it. This complexity is present throughout the story within the
artwork, which features thin, unsteady lines and a notable absence of panel borders. The thin, unsteady
lines feel uncertain, failing to strongly assert themselves. They also leave plenty of negative space on
the page, especially on page 6, often merely suggesting the presence of an object through the absence
of line, a style which reflects recurring themes in American Splendor, where the presence or
significance of something is merely hinted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visually, panel 4 moves its focus back onto Pekar. He is no longer a full figure, taking up the entire
space in the panel with his head and arms with his face becomes more visible as well. Additionally,
the language in the caption reflects this refocus, using the first person plural pronoun we as opposed to
the third person they used in tier 2. This shift, while making the language in the caption more
personal, also admits that Pekar feels comfortable including himself in the group about which he is
speaking when he says we really think we re very important.... After all, we re the only ones living in
our heads. Panel 5 draws the focus even closer in on Pekar. He begins to talk about his interpretation
of what significance is valuable, saying that in a hundred years maybe it won t matter, but the trouble
is that in the next few hours or days or weeks it matters a lot. Within the caption, the timeline
considered for the rest of the page shrinks, and with the reappearance of the first person I pronoun, so
too does the scope of humanity being considered. The Pekar figure finally shifts to a standing position
in this panel, with his face turned skyward in the clearest depiction of it seen on this page. His mind is
a little clearer, and his standing pose suggests that he feels more in control of his thoughts and himself
than he was earlier on in the

The Federal Government And Education System
The Federal Government and Education Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution declares that the US
Government is responsible to tax the people for the general welfare of its citizens . Under this clause,
the Government has taken the responsibility of education; not to micro manage the education system,
but instead to increase the efficiency of it. In the past, states and local governments have maintained
primary control of the education system, which has led to many problems. The differences in
curriculum, quality, and administering as well as other aspects of public education are vastly different
around the country, which has actually inhibited America s ability to succeed. Many of these issues
could be resolved with a shift in power in terms of who is controlling the country s academic system.
The Federal Government should have a significant amount of regulating responsibility in America s
education system, because it standardizes the quality of education across the country, presents an
opportunity of equal education for all students, and regulates teachers. With the Federal Government
regulating education, a national standard of schooling will become available. This means that there
will be set expectations for how well a student does in school as well as standards for a quality
education across the US the education on one side of the country will be exactly the same as on the
other side. Having a national academic standard is important because standards spell out

How Have Urban Environments Been Made More Sustainable And What More Needs To Be Done for
the Future?
Introduction
The National Geographic Education define an urban environment as, the region surrounding a city.
Urban areas are very developed, meaning there is a density of human structures such as houses,
commercial buildings, roads, bridges, and railways.(1) The International Institute for Sustainable
Development define sustainable development as development that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (2) In 2014,
approximately 54%(3) of the total global population live in urban environments. The global urban
population has grown significantly from 34% in 1960(3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The provision of affordable mass transit provides residents of urban areas greater accessibility, which
can provide them with more opportunities and services. Furthermore, with the provision of a
successful transport system, it is highly likely for the number of people using personal vehicles to fall.
This fall in the use of cars would mean that less harmful gases such as Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen
Oxide and Sulphur Dioxide released and so the natural environment would benefit. With a successful
transport system, accessibility is greatly improved, which can be beneficial economically for a city.
People are able to travel to and from work and the transport can also be used for trading goods and
services. However, current mass transit is unsustainable in urban cities due to its reliance on non
renewable fossil fuels and the pollution it creates has a significant impact on the environment.
Currently, transport is accountable for 20% 25% of world s energy consumption and carbon dioxide
emissions(1) and the current systems mostly run on fossil fuels, which are expected to run out by 2088
according to ecotricity(2). In order to improve the sustainability of an urban area, the transport
systems, which need to be in place for economic and social reasons, need to become greener, cleaner
and run on renewable energy. Current technology is not currently in place to allow for this significant
change and so gradual changes have been introduced in some of the world cities.

Christianity And Birth Control
Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take away
or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said Pope John
XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that doing so does
not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control and contraception.
The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act is a gift from God to
married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and perverted by humans; who
view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is. Abortion, contraception and
birth control are three methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions.
Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for
2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many other
Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive practice.
The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark times. His
Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the papal encyclical
Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole married life of otherwise
normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately contraceptive and so intrinsically
wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering
himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the
ground, which is a severe punishment indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere
with the means to create life that he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man
controls creation, not Him. It is intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual
immorality is condemned by the Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a
means to misuse intimacy for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non
Christian married couples should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for
pleasure. Pleasures are so readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is
being corrupted by modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are
obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it

Rockefeller and Carnegie had similar backgrounds. Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant. Being an
immigrant, he started off with little money. Rockefeller, while he was born and raised in the United

home to raise the six children of the family. Both of them began working while they were struggling to
make ends meet, but ended as two of the richest men in America. The two were also similar in
business. Both (though Carnegie more than Rockefeller) used the method of giving bonuses and
partnerships to those workers who were innovative and efficient. Along with this, both believed that

Persuasive Essay On Rosa Parks
Civil rights abolitionist , Rosa Parks states, Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our
children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully we shall overcome. (Parks) Parks knew in order to
get segregation to end she stayed seated instead of getting up for a white person to sit down. Rosa
Parks s involvement in civil disobedience was due to personal influences, she chose to participate in
civil disobedience to protest the right to sit where she wanted , and she achieved success using this
controversial method of standing up for what she strongly believes to be right. The definition of Civil
disobedience is when someone is standing up for what they believe in, even if it is against the law (
Glossary ). The purpose of Civil Disobedience is changing the all of the immoral laws and protecting
our liberties and rights ( Starr ).
Personal life To understand Park s role in civil disobedience, one must first have awareness, of her
personal life.Rosa was born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee,Alabama her maiden name is Rosa Louise
McCauley ( Parks ). Rosa s parents name is James McCauley and Leona McCauley, her brother s
name is Sylvester McCauley a little after Sylvester was born James and Leona got a divorce .Rosa left

she was married, went and earned her high school diploma in 1933.( history ). Rosa got married to
Raymond parks when she was only 19 years old. Raymond was a self educated man he worked as a
barber ( history ). Rosa and Raymond Parks opened an institute and they talked to all children between
the ages of 11 and 17 and other national leaders they also talked to them about Civil Disobedience and
told them to do what they feel is right.Pathways to freedom program talks about the underground

Summary Of The Naked Citadel
Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one s beliefs.
It blinds oneself from another s perspective. It is a cycle that reflects people s lack of open
mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in
conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs
and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around them and future
generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and understanding another s
perspective. In The Naked Citadel, the admission of a female named Shannon Faulkner into The
Citadel, an all male military college, followed by the immediate retraction of the admission lead Susan
Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi
exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort to push her readers to have similar impressions of The
Citadel, a sexist college known for its intense hazing. In another essay, Selections from Losing Matt
Shepard, Beth Loffreda describes the media filled aftermath of a young gay male was beaten and left
for dead by two of the town s residents. What is not directly stated, yet clearly present, are the authors
viewpoint on the matters. Both authors try manipulating their point of views into the minds of their
readers. Media persuades the public to pay attention to the stories they want to portray,

This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure
verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as
an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in
antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of
Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas,
or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life
has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and
eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to
desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called
for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. The Roman
Villa s clever orientation of porticos, dining rooms, and bedrooms to take advantage of particular
vistas shows that Roman aristocrats and their architects consciously included nature and the landscape
in their designs to enhance them and add a new dimension to the inhabitant s enjoyment. As one can
see within each Roman dwelling,

Health Benefits Of Support Group Therapy
A support group is a gathering of people who share a common health concern or interest. (Healthy
Lifestyle: Stress Management, 2015) Support groups are created to help individuals with various
mental, medical, and personal histories understand that they are not alone in what they are going
through, creating an environment of open dialogue and non judgement. Professional group therapy can
make people feel uncomfortable in sharing the floor with others; in a support group, it is a place to
share advice, troubles, and experiences.
Support groups vary depending on the topic. Some are peer created, whether by someone affected by
the topic or someone who is interested in it, and some are created by organizations like charity groups,
mental health groups, or for educational purposes.

The Big Dipper
The best story that I ever heard would be about how the Big Dipper became to be. I chose the Big
Dipper because it s the only story that I like that I heard. The story that I´ve heard about the Big
Dipper is the Cheyenne Story. In the Cheyenne version, there are seven brothers, they all take care of
one another. They live by themselves, not in a village or near one. The youngest brother is probably
about nine or ten years old, and the oldest brother is probably around twenty or twenty one. Now,
besides the brothers, there is another main character. This character is their ¨sister¨, she was having
visions of meeting them, so she set off to find them. This story´s setting was set back a long time ago
before there were boarding schools. The sister packed and went off to find her brothers. She had made
them nice clothes to wear. She had brought her dog ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

spoken to the sister and said, Now that I brought my people here, would you marry me? Again the
sisters answer was no. So the bull got angry and started to charge at the girl. Right before the bull
could get her the brothers grabbed her and they climbed up to the top of the tree. When the bull saw
them pull her up, he started hitting the tree with all his might, shaking it, as if it was the tree was going

Music Industry Changes
How the internet has affected the music industry. Over the past half decade, the music industry had
changed drastically. If that s how people buy music or how people listen to music, its changed. The
music industry has been ripped apart thanks to the power of the internet. You might not think about it
when you re listening to music on repeat but after you have listened to a track you re potentially
affecting the official charts without even realising it. Downloading music illegally has increased

worldwide. In 2015, numbers showed that a massive 62% of people in the UK either illegally

music as when they see how much money they have made it will be plummeting each month.
Throughout the UK many people were surveyed and results showed that, 26% of the people surveyed
downloaded music illegally online. In the USA, The Recording Industry Association of America (also
known as RIAA) reported that music sales have dropped massive 42% ever since illegal download
was invented. This can affect the music industry in many ways some may be that if illegal downloads
keep rising it will make sales lower and potentially make it harder for artists getting worldwide

Summary
Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and
manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with
carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3.
Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna
Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent Halon
1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal Protocol
concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The termination of
Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent.
The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which
simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of
Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a fire
suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the
temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a lower
result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of Halon
1301 being subjected to the same tests.
The results concluded that Agent H3

Example Of Natural Disasters
Natural disasters throughout the world are very frightening although there might be reasons to look at
them in a different perspective? How you may ask, seeing homes and hundreds of people panic for
their lives is all a natural reaction because we don t know what to do for the most part. However there
are other ways into viewing these disasters not only as that nature stops by a decides to struck a certain
place on earth but, that we have a partial responsibility in these disasters. We all influence how earth s
environments work and how we treat it eventually builds up and causes natural disasters. For the most
part literature can give you a whole different perspective on natural disasters.
In the book Black Nature Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry by Camille T. Dungy she
gives many examples of natural disasters in cycle six. Take one of the poems named Earthquake Blues
by Ishmael Reed talks about an one of the most devastating disasters an earthquake. It s a short poem
as well as a story. How an earthquake was felt by animals before it struck, then it gets into details how
the earthquakes took the life of a little child in a nursery. However the most significant line in the
story was Mr. Earthquake Mr. Earthquake you don t know good from bad which made so much sense
to me. A natural disaster hits when it hits it doesn t know if it s causing something good or bad. Some
disaster happen where a few people can be hurt and others occur where many lives are at

Our objective in this science project was to make a pendulum ride for Northwood High School that
could be securely utilized by students. We needed to make a ride, with a time of precisely 1.5 seconds,
which will give a ride that is not too quick, not too slow, but just right (Northwood Land Article 1).
The ride couldn t be higher than 75 cm, it couldn t make an angle more prominent than 45 degrees,
and distinctive quantities of individuals could be on the ride at once so we should have been ready to
have diverse weights that still support with the well being capabilities. Our three hypotheses for this
undertaking were that expanding the quantity of individuals will make the ride go slower, expanding
the edge will build the period time, and ultimately, an expanded string length will expand the period
time. With a specific end goal to test our speculation and achieve the 1.5 period time, we needed to
figure out how to test every variable. We chose to consolidate the components of weight, angle, and
string length to discover which mix of the three would make a period time of 1.5 seconds while in the
meantime, attempt to demonstrate or refute our hypothesis. Altogether, we needed to make three
information tables.
To gather our information, we set up a pendulum and raised its height to 70 cm. In the wake of doing
this we joined the string to the highest point of the pendulum and

State Voter Initiatives Affecting the Education of English Language Learners It is no secret that the
debate over what is the best course of action to educate our non native English language students
across the country is a highly charged topic that runs from the classroom to Capitol Hill. There have
been many shifts in direction and focus of educational programs for English Language Learning
(ELL) students during the past century in our nation s history. In 1968, with the passage of the
Bilingual Education Act (Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act) legislation was ...

To many opponents of the bilingual education program that existed prior to these laws, encouraging
bilingualism and biculturalism threatened the very definition of the American culture, which, they
believed, promoted the values and language of a common group (Weisman and Hanson,2002). ).
These proponents of the initiatives believed that new immigrants must abandon their native languages
and cultural practices to fully assimilate into U.S. society. They feared that Spanish speaking
immigrants in particular had been clinging to their language and resisting learning English
(Mora,2009). It remains to be seen the impact that this legislation has had on the academic outcomes
of ELL students. In Arizona, research has suggested that the immersion program has been ineffective
with only 11% of students entering the one year program actually obtaining English proficiency within
a one year period (English for children, 2013). In California, due to the dramatic changes in the
education policy of the state since the passage of Prop 227, it is difficult to measure the impact that
Proposition 227 specifically has had on the outcome of these students (American Institutes for
Research and WestEd, 2006). One thing is clear, the improvement in the outcomes for ELL students
since the adoption of these state initiatives has not been noteworthy. While there has been a slight

Preparing Azo Dyes Using Combinatorial Methods For The...
The purpose of this experiment was to prepare azo dyes using the combinatorial approach to show the
principles combinatorial chemistry. Using combinatorial synthesis, an array of chemicals can be
synthesized by using a parallel synthesis to identify potentially valuable compounds. This electrophilic
aromatic substitution reaction involved multiple steps to complete, however, no major techniques were
used; only the use of a hot place and an ice bath. The specific azo dyes produced in this experiment
used the coupling partners 1 naphthol and 2 naphthol with 3 aminobenzenesulfonic acid. The azo dye
for the meta reaction of 1 naphthol with 3 aminobenzenesulfonic acid yielded a very dark red color.

Less energy is required to raise the energy levels of aromatic azo compounds with less conjugation
and therefor, less high energy waves are absorbed and the dye appears increasingly blue/black.
Figure 1: Conjugation levels of various common aromatic azo compounds. As a class, we were able to
compare and contrast the colors of the aromatic azo compounds from several different coupling
partners as well as different substitution patterns for each (i.e. ortho, para, meta). This type of
synthesizing molecules to create an array of potentially useful compounds is known as combinational
chemistry. In combinatorial synthesis, when using a compound with multiple points of diversity, or R
groups which can be substituted, a substantial number of possible structures can be found depending
on the number of substituents utilized. Laboratories can use automated technologies to perform these
types of reactions on an industrial scale but scientists can also utilize these methods to synthesize and
compare a select few molecules [2]. More specifically, the type of combinatorial synthesis utilized by
our lab is known as parallel synthesis . In parallel synthesis, a number of reactants are available to
react individually with a number of substrates which produces a substantial number of unique and
potentially useful compounds. One way of organizing the information about these reactions is to
create a table with the reactants

Keats s Reflection Of Autumn, The Season Of Fog And Growth
The poet speaks of autumn, the season of fog and production. The first line portrays autumn as a
period of growth. Autumn is a close friend of the maturing sun. The word maturing is used to describe
the shorter daylight of winter. Together, autumn and the sun help the vines that wrap around thatched
roofs bear fruit. The image of growth persists in the following lines; the poet describes plants and
fruits bending or changing shape in reaction to their development: trees bend with the weight of
ripening apples, gourds grow in size, and kernels develop in the centers of hazelnuts. Flowers continue
to multiply until the bees feel as if warm days will never end. Summer has made its harvest so
bountiful that it s described as o er brimmed or bursting. In the second stanza, the poet directly
addresses autumn. To Keats, autumn is a figure that can be found in the middle of its job, which is to
facilitate nature s growth. Autumn can be discovered sitting in a granary, or storehouse for threshed
grain, the blowing wind lifting autumn s hair. Someone might also stumble across autumn asleep
outside on a half harvested trench, made drowsy by the scent of poppies. Autumn s scythe is unused
against the next line of flowers. The poet additionally compares autumn to a gleaner who carries the
leftovers of the harvest on top of her head while she crosses a stream. Another activity of autumn is to
watch the juice being squeezed from apples for hours. The third stanza opens with the

The Wage Is The Minimum Wage

The minimum wage is the minimum hourly wage an employer can pay an employee for work.
Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) and some
states and cities have raised their minimum wage even higher than that. minimum wage was first
introduced during the great depression in 1930s. Before it was introduced thousands of people were
forced to work in horrible conditions for pennies a week. Early attempts on minimum wage was ruled
unconstitutional by the U.S supreme court, because it restricted people from deciding what they
wanted to pay their workers. So employers still made there workers, work in horrible condition
through the great depression. Now that poverty is a huge national issue. President Franklin D.
Roosevelt made sure he would protect workers it was part of his mission as the president of the united
states of america. After being reelected in 1936 he signed the FLSA in 1938. Which put into place a
national minimum wage of 25 cents an hour. After the law was passed the minimum wage was
changed almost every couple of years because the cost of living is very high. In 1997 bill clinton
allowed states to make there own minimum wage. Today the minimum wage is 7.25/hour there is
continuing debate over whether that s a fair amount of money to support someone there days. Labor

James Truslow Adams once wrote in his book The Epic of America that everyone should be able to
live a better, and richer life, not as in better cars and higher wages only, but in social order and where
you can be capable of achieving their highest potential. The american dream shouldn t be for material
pleasure and gain, for example bigger houses or nicest cars. The author states the Declaration of
Independance to show that people have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness; this idea
supports the author by explaining that someone should be able to pursue self given dreams, and goals
to their reach, which can mean to attain their fullest potential.

George Armstrong Custer s Death In The Battle Of Little...
The Battle of Little Bighorn, also known as the Battle of Greasy Grass, was not a significant battle
when comparing death count, but it was a big turning point in the course of American History. George
Custer was a widely respected military leader who had rarely lost a battle up until that point. It was a
shock to the white population that an Indian tribe had that much power and could beat such a powerful
army with such advanced military tactics. George Armstrong Custer s arrogance and the already tense
relations with the Sioux Indians were the main factors that ultimately contributed to his death in the
Battle of Little Bighorn.
George Armstrong Custer was born in Ohio on December 5, 1839. He entered the military academy at
West Point in 1857. He was not strong academically, but he showed strong leadership qualities at an
early age. Custer got into the militaristic mindset early in life. He entered the American Civil War

for their aggressiveness. He reported to the 2nd US Cavalry as 2nd Lieutenant in the battle of the First

The General Assembly Of The United Nations
History of the committee
The General Assembly is one of six of the main organs of the United Nations. It was officially
established in 1945 by Chapter IV of the Charter of the United Nations, which guaranteed that all
member nations are guaranteed at least one representative in the General Assembly. The Charter
established that the purpose of the General Assembly was to find solutions to potential threats to
international peace and security and other issues within the scope of the Charter. It also gave the
General Assembly responsibility for appointing non permanent members to the Security Council and
overseeing the United Nations budget.1 In order to fulfill this mission, the General Assembly today
passes resolutions that recommend actions that the international community should take in order to
address a particular pressing problem. Although the resolutions passed by the General Assembly are
not legally binding, they still have clout because they represent international consensus decisions and
are often seen as the international moral norm.
Since its creation, the General Assembly has successfully passed various resolutions in order to fulfill
its goals as outlined by the United Nations Charter. Soon after its establishment, it adopted its first
resolution on 24 January 1946; much like the resolutions that this committee may seek to draft at this
conference, the General Assembly s first resolution sought to deal with issues surrounding the safe use

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cast Iron And...
INTRODUCTION
Even though the actual condition is much more complex, wrought iron, cast iron and steel can be
thought of alloys made of iron and carbon.
Iron is basically extracted from natural ores iron oxide (FeO). Iron oxide heated to high temperatures
become iron.
FeO + C → Fe + CO
We get pig iron from this process which is not pure form and includes Iron carbide and material is
made hard along with brittleness.
CAST IRON
Cast iron is produced by remelting pig iron with some amount of scrap iron. It is remelted by blowing
air into the molten mass of two until the carbon content is between 2.40 and 4.00 percent. Thus
contemporary cast iron is formed which exists in two forms : grey cast iron and white cast iron.
(source: http://cast iron radiator.com/cast iron radiator.jpg)
WROUGHT IRON
Wrought iron is produced by reprocessing cast iron. The strength limitations of cast iron were
gradually overcome by the development of a process called puddling . Puddling involves reheating
cast iron and manually mixing air in the molten form. Due to its nature, the process could only
produce small volumes at a time. The material produced by this method has high tensile strengths and
was much more ductile than cast iron. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Types of Attacks in Comnputer Security
This paper is presenting types of attacks in security of TCP/IP protocol and also defense to security
problems. Flaws in such system are due to attackers access over machine and due to insecurity of
machine. Paper proposed solutions to the problems and discuss problems without considering their
implementation.
Attack like TCP sequence number prediction where spoofing is allowed on host on a local network. A
variant in TCP sequence number attack exploits the netstat service where the intruder impersonates a
host that is down. If netstat is on the target host it supplies the necessary sequence number information
on another port. Defense to this is by randomizing the increment, good logging and alerting
mechanisms.
The joy of routing This is the simple attack that basically depend on routing protocols that has been
used. It is further categorized in different attacks that can be Source Routing In which target host
reverses source route in a TCP for traffic that is returning. So facilities can be exchanged between host
and attacker. The idea to protect from attacks is to put gateways into the local net for rejection of
external packets that acting as part of the local net or to do rejection of pre authorized connections.
Another attack is The Routing Information Protocol (RIP) attack is mostly used on local networks like
broadcast media. As information here sent is not checked so intruder can change or send modified

Bens Deli Restaurant
The picture reflects an old restaurant in Montreal named Bens Deli Restaurant. Unfortunately, it
closed its doors for the last time in 2006, two years before its 100th birthday as it was demolished in
2008 and replaced by a boutique hotel. This painting was meant to stir nostalgia for the bygone days
in Montreal. The painting offers a fascinating portal back to the days when downtown Montreal was a
magnet, not just for the locals but also for the many entertainers who partied with vigor in the city. We
can interpret from the painting that there was a time when the city never slept, and when Bens
restaurant was the place to go to both start and end the day. The artist has used Oil paint and given the
scene a more realistic look. We can see that

The Adoption Of Autonomous Vehicles
2.1 Introduction
There are roughly 250 million registered motor vehicles in the United States (Blanco, 2010). This
corresponds to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal
Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011).
Given how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with
autonomous vehicles could easily have far reaching implications.
The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues.
Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each
will be touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in
order to better understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted.
We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption
of autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that
will be discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on
technologies still being developed can be considered somewhat speculative.
2.2 Safety
One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle
safety. In 2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths
(Census 2012). It s estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to

Neighborhood Violence
Richmond, Calif. IN 2007, this city of about 100,000 people, north of Berkeley, had the dubious
distinction of being the ninth most dangerous in America. That year saw a total of 47 homicides. In
some neighborhoods, gunfire was almost a daily event.
At one point, the City Council considered asking the governor to declare a state of emergency and
send in the National Guard. Instead, in 2007, the city created the Office of Neighborhood Safety. (I am
the founding director.) Our mission was simple: to tackle this epidemic of gun violence that was
killing so many young men, mostly in our minority communities.
We modeled our approach on Cure Violence, a community outreach program in Chicago founded by
the epidemiologist Gary Slutkin. The Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The average cost to taxpayers of every gun homicide in America is nearly $400,000.
In contrast, the costs of our program were modest. In practice, we have rarely needed to pay the full
amount offered under the terms of our deal: Just over half our fellowship participants receive
payments, usually in the $300 to $700 range. So if our program prevented gun deaths, there could be
little argument about cost effectiveness.
It did. In the first year of Operation Peacemaker, homicides in Richmond fell to 22 (from 45 in 2009).
In five years of our program, through 2014, we have seen the number of homicides in Richmond,
which had averaged 40 a year, more than halved; firearm assaults in general fell by a similar
proportion.
In 2014, we celebrated the lowest number of firearm assaults and homicides in more than four
decades. Richmond recorded a 76 percent reduction in homicides and a 69 percent reduction in
firearm assaults from 2007, when the Office of Neighborhood Safety was created.
In reality, we ve achieved these results not simply by the cash incentive. Our change agents work with
about 150 clients a year, at a cost of about $20,000 per person, which pays for daily mentoring,
coaching and companionship. By comparison, it costs our city about $200,000 to hire one new police

Reflective Essay On Learning
When it comes to learning, the majority of people have their own way of getting a specific task done.
Since the day that we began learning in school, our ability to learn has developed as we advance
through each grade level. In kindergarten, we were beginning to develop the necessary skills to
memorize simple math and basic English. Once we started in college, however, our ability to complete
long readings and assignments is expected to be ready for the college level. Some students have
learned new learning strategies while others have kept to the same game plan. Much of high school is
meant to prepare the student for the workload and difficulty of college courses. Some students push
themselves every year to become better learners while others, tend to postpone assignments until the
last minute. Each year the difficulty of the assignments given increases greatly and our ability to learn
new strategies is important to the work process. Each student has a different strategy that they follow
in order to complete an assignment. While some students begin assignments ahead of time and plan
ahead, others do not attempt to learn new strategies and leave their work for last minute. Learning to
learn is a process that takes much time and dedication in order to achieve. In many cases, students
stick to the strategies that they know best. Their strategies can vary from deep reading to simply
skimming through the reading. In my case, I consider myself in the middle of this learning

Project Mercury Thesis Statement
In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik, and the space race was on. The Soviet s
triumph jarred the American people and sparked a vigorous response in the federal government to
make sure the United States did not fall behind its communist rival.
A new space program, Project Mercury, was initiated two years later, during President Dwight D.
Eisenhower s administration. Seven men were selected to take part in the program: Scott Carpenter,
Leroy Gordon Cooper, John Glenn Jr., Virgil Grissom, Walter Schirra Jr., Alan Shepard Jr., and
Donald Slayton. Project Mercury s goals were to orbit a manned spacecraft around Earth, investigate
the ability of astronauts to function in space, and recover astronauts and spacecraft safely.
Then, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each spacecraft was composed of two main parts: an orbiter designed to photograph the surface of
Mars from orbit, and a lander designed to study the planet from the surface. The orbiters also served as
communication relays for the landers once they touched down. It was highly successful and formed
most of the body of knowledge about Mars through the late 199os and early 2ooos.
Viking 1 was launched on August 2o, 1975, and the second craft, Viking 2, was launched on
September 9, 1975, both riding atop Titan III E rockets with Centaur upper stages. Viking 1 entered
Mars orbit on June 19, 1976, with Viking 2 following suit on August 7.
After orbiting Mars for more than a month and returning images used for landing site selection, the
orbiters and landers detached; the landers then entered the Martian atmosphere and soft landed at the
sites that had been chosen. The Viking 1 lander touched down on the surface of Mars on July 2o,
1976, and was joined by the Viking 2 lander on September 3. The orbiters continued imaging and
performing other scientific operations from orbit while the landers deployed instruments on the
surface.

The Intellectual Roots Of Modern Day Environmentalism
Many people today do not understand or appreciate the lasting effects that the environmental
movement of the 1960s brought to our world. The things that most people immediately associate with
the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the
hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative
these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time
that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the
environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to
the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau,
most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land
for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation
remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through
the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years.
The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of
influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to
initiate change.
Influential figures in the 1960s were the first ones to bring to light the urgency of the

  • 3. The Punishment of Malvolio Essay In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night, the characters endure the fruits of their foolishness at the end of the play, but Malvolio endures a greater suffering and greater embarrassment than the rest of the characters. This is not simply by chance or whimsy: but this is Shakespeare s stratification of the vices that a person may take upon him or herself. With this stratification, Shakespeare allocates Malvolio s vices of pride, usurping the social order, and dour temperament as the worst of character flaws, and that is why Malvolio receives the harshest punishment. Before examining the punishment that Malvolio endures, it is necessary to examine his flaws and offenses. His arrival in the play is with criticism of Feste, and that initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malvolio is treading the ground of criminal offense against a lord, who is also the cousin of his Lady. Beyond the offense upon the higher strata of society, Malvolio is also demonstrating his dour temperament in this scene which is also problematic. The importance of mirth and joviality is affirmed throughout the play, and for some characters, their greatest virtue is the ability to enjoy and be passionate for life. Malvolio stands in opposition to this with his protests and derision, and in the play he is the only character that takes offense to other characters enjoying their lives. The hostile environment he creates is important to note because it gives the other characters an impetus to deal with his troublesome personality in order to enjoy their own pleasures and pursuits. The last encounter where Malvolio extends his grievances is the second encounter with Sir Toby. Their encounter takes place after Malvolio s pride is incensed by the false note of Olivia, so his actions go even further in displaying his own ego and lack of regard for his superiors. Not only does he instruct Sir Toby and Maria to, go hang yourselves, (III.iv.120) but he also claims that he is no longer of their, element (III.iv.121). The implication is that he has ascended beyond Sir Toby and Maria, but that is merely the delusion of his ego. In this scene he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Very few people could think about the idea of all information on the internet being neutral, without getting an instant opinion. The two sides are as stated: everything that comes up on the internet should be unbiased (thus resulting neutral ). For this research paper my goal is to explain and illustrate why certain populations tend to have higher infection rates of tuberculosis than the average population in the United States and what causes these higher rates. At what point do health officials step in and work on prevention in these specific populations and why are we not implementing the tuberculosis shot for these populations? There are currently a variety of vaccinations that are being tested and/or used throughout the world, although they are rarely used in the United States (Kupferschmidt, 2011). There are several research centers across the nation that are taking part of the research and development of these new vaccines including Harvard University and the University of California, Los Angeles (Kupferschmidt, 2011). These vaccinations are of great importance to some individuals, but its use is not perfect across all samples (Kupferschmidt, 2011). Tuberculosis was first discovered as a disease in 1882 by a scientist named Robert Koch (Rothman, 1994). Within a short period of time it was discovered that this was an infectious disease, along with being a disease that affected certain populations (Rothman, 1994). It was discovered that a vast majority of the individuals affected were either immigrant, therefore generally a minority population, or were of poor or working class status (Rothman, 1994). Several movements and directives were used during this time to attempt to stop the spread of tuberculosis, such as, being outside in the clean air as much as possible, not drinking alcohol, and drinking plenty of clean water, among others (Rothman, 1994). Between 1906 and 1919 a vaccine was developed by Albert Calmette and Camille Geurin, a pair of French scientists, to help prevent this terrible disease (Kupferschmidt, 2011). • 6. Analysis Of I Ll Be Forty-Three On Friday I ll Be Forty Three on Friday (How I m Living Now) presents a relatively simple premise that of a man on the precipice of growing older walking through a park and thinking while revealing a complex lens into life as the man perceives it. This complexity is present throughout the story within the artwork, which features thin, unsteady lines and a notable absence of panel borders. The thin, unsteady lines feel uncertain, failing to strongly assert themselves. They also leave plenty of negative space on the page, especially on page 6, often merely suggesting the presence of an object through the absence of line, a style which reflects recurring themes in American Splendor, where the presence or significance of something is merely hinted ... This shift, while making the language in the caption more personal, also admits that Pekar feels comfortable including himself in the group about which he is speaking when he says we really think we re very important.... After all, we re the only ones living in our heads. Panel 5 draws the focus even closer in on Pekar. He begins to talk about his interpretation of what significance is valuable, saying that in a hundred years maybe it won t matter, but the trouble is that in the next few hours or days or weeks it matters a lot. Within the caption, the timeline considered for the rest of the page shrinks, and with the reappearance of the first person I pronoun, so too does the scope of humanity being considered. The Pekar figure finally shifts to a standing position in this panel, with his face turned skyward in the clearest depiction of it seen on this page. • 7. The Federal Government And Education System The Federal Government and Education Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution declares that the US Government is responsible to tax the people for the general welfare of its citizens . Under this clause, the Government has taken the responsibility of education; not to micro manage the education system, but instead to increase the efficiency of it. In the past, states and local governments have maintained primary control of the education system, which has led to many problems. The differences in curriculum, quality, and administering as well as other aspects of public education are vastly different around the country, which has actually inhibited America s ability to succeed. Many of these issues could be resolved with a shift in power in terms of who is controlling the country s academic system. The Federal Government should have a significant amount of regulating responsibility in America s education system, because it standardizes the quality of education across the country, presents an opportunity of equal education for all students, and regulates teachers. With the Federal Government regulating education, a national standard of schooling will become available. This means that there will be set expectations for how well a student does in school as well as standards for a quality education across the US the education on one side of the country will be exactly the same as on the other side. Furthermore, with the provision of a successful transport system, it is highly likely for the number of people using personal vehicles to fall. With a successful transport system, accessibility is greatly improved, which can be beneficial economically for a city. People are able to travel to and from work and the transport can also be used for trading goods and services. However, current mass transit is unsustainable in urban cities due to its reliance on non renewable fossil fuels and the pollution it creates has a significant impact on the environment. Currently, transport is accountable for 20% 25% of world s energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions(1) and the current systems mostly run on fossil fuels, which are expected to run out by 2088 according to ecotricity(2). • 12. Christianity And Birth Control Human life is a sacred right that all individuals possess. It is unlawful and mortally sinful to take away or prevent the life of an infant. Human life is sacred all men must recognize that fact, said Pope John XXIII in defense of the unborn (John XXIII). To be truly pro life, one must accept that doing so does not only refer to being opposed to abortion, but also being opposed to birth control and contraception. The Catholic Church has professed for two thousand years that the conjugal act is a gift from God to married couples for the sole purpose of procreation. This gift is abused and perverted by humans; who view conjugal love as a means of pleasure rather than what it truly is. Abortion, contraception and birth control are three methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The popularity and convenience of birth control has led to a higher popularity of abortions. Historically, Christianity has always condemned birth control and the contraceptive mentality for 2,000 years until the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion in 1930 (Carlson). Many other Protestant communities jumped on the bandwagon and embraced this modern and destructive practice. The Roman Catholic Church has stood firm in her tradition and doctrine during these dark times. His Holiness, Pope Paul VI, condemned birth control and contraception as immoral in the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae. Consequently, it is a serious error to think that a whole married life of otherwise normal relations can justify sexual intercourse which is deliberately contraceptive and so intrinsically wrong (Paul VI). Anyone who claims to be pro life, yet embraces contraceptives, is truly flattering himself. God struck Onan dead in Genesis for performing coitus interruptus, spilling his seed on the ground, which is a severe punishment indeed. Imagine the anger of God toward those who interfere with the means to create life that he gave humanity. Using birth control is telling God that man controls creation, not Him. It is intrinsically blasphemous and disobedient in nature. Sexual immorality is condemned by the Bible and birth control certainly falls within this category since it is a means to misuse intimacy for the purpose of pleasure, rather than procreation. Christian and non Christian married couples should use sex for procreation instead of using each others bodies just for pleasure. Pleasures are so readily available in this world, and now God s own generative process is being corrupted by modern medicine. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Summary Of The Naked Citadel Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one s beliefs. It blinds oneself from another s perspective. It is a cycle that reflects people s lack of open mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around them and future generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and understanding another s perspective. In The Naked Citadel, the admission of a female named Shannon Faulkner into The Citadel, an all male military college, followed by the immediate retraction of the admission lead Susan Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort to push her readers to have similar impressions of The Citadel, a sexist college known for its intense hazing. This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas, or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. The story that I´ve heard about the Big Dipper is the Cheyenne Story. In the Cheyenne version, there are seven brothers, they all take care of one another. They live by themselves, not in a village or near one. The youngest brother is probably about nine or ten years old, and the oldest brother is probably around twenty or twenty one. Now, besides the brothers, there is another main character. This character is their ¨sister¨, she was having visions of meeting them, so she set off to find them. This story´s setting was set back a long time ago before there were boarding schools. The sister packed and went off to find her brothers. She had made them nice clothes to wear. The buffalo had spoken to the sister and said, Now that I brought my people here, would you marry me? Again the sisters answer was no. So the bull got angry and started to charge at the girl. Right before the bull could get her the brothers grabbed her and they climbed up to the top of the tree. When the bull saw them pull her up, he started hitting the tree with all his might, shaking it, as if it was the tree was going to fall over. Just as they reached the top and could not go any further, the tree started to grow. It grew so far up that when they looked down, they could see everything. • 26. Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd ( Sfp ) TITLE BLANK Summary Sentinal Fire Protection Ltd (SFP) is a company that design and specialises in the design and manufacture of fire detection and extinguishing systems for aircrafts. SFP have been tasked with carrying out tests on a new fire extinguishant named Agent H3. Due to the findings conducted in 1994 as per the Montreal Protocol (a protocol to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer), the commonly used fire extinguishing agent Halon 1301 ceased production. Halon 1301 is a CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) gas, which the Montreal Protocol concluded, had a tendency to significantly breakdown the earths ozone layer. The termination of Halon 1301 prompted the need for a CFC free replacement fire extinguishing agent. The replacement extinguishant, Agent H3 was tested by SFP under controlled conditions which simulated a bulk load cargo fire inside a compartment with a volume of 58m3. The effectiveness of Agent H3 was constantly monitored through thermocouples and data loggers. It s efficiency as a fire suppressant was based on two criterion set by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the temperature acceptance criterion and the maximum time/temp criterion, with the outcome of a lower result being more effective. These results would then be compared with the known results of Halon 1301 being subjected to the same tests. The results concluded that Agent H3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Nhs Pendulum Lab Youssef Elseifi Mr. Dickson Honors Integrated Science 1 Row 2 Period 4 10/3/16 NHS Pendulum Lab Our objective in this science project was to make a pendulum ride for Northwood High School that could be securely utilized by students. We needed to make a ride, with a time of precisely 1.5 seconds, which will give a ride that is not too quick, not too slow, but just right (Northwood Land Article 1). The ride couldn t be higher than 75 cm, it couldn t make an angle more prominent than 45 degrees, and distinctive quantities of individuals could be on the ride at once so we should have been ready to have diverse weights that still support with the well being capabilities. Our three hypotheses for this undertaking were that expanding the quantity of individuals will make the ride go slower, expanding the edge will build the period time, and ultimately, an expanded string length will expand the period time. With a specific end goal to test our speculation and achieve the 1.5 period time, we needed to figure out how to test every variable. We chose to consolidate the components of weight, angle, and string length to discover which mix of the three would make a period time of 1.5 seconds while in the meantime, attempt to demonstrate or refute our hypothesis. Altogether, we needed to make three information tables. To gather our information, we set up a pendulum and raised its height to 70 cm. In the wake of doing this we joined the string to the highest point of the pendulum and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been many shifts in direction and focus of educational programs for English Language Learning (ELL) students during the past century in our nation s history. To many opponents of the bilingual education program that existed prior to these laws, encouraging bilingualism and biculturalism threatened the very definition of the American culture, which, they believed, promoted the values and language of a common group (Weisman and Hanson,2002). ). These proponents of the initiatives believed that new immigrants must abandon their native languages and cultural practices to fully assimilate into U.S. society. They feared that Spanish speaking immigrants in particular had been clinging to their language and resisting learning English (Mora,2009). It remains to be seen the impact that this legislation has had on the academic outcomes of ELL students. In Arizona, research has suggested that the immersion program has been ineffective with only 11% of students entering the one year program actually obtaining English proficiency within a one year period (English for children, 2013). In California, due to the dramatic changes in the education policy of the state since the passage of Prop 227, it is difficult to measure the impact that Proposition 227 specifically has had on the outcome of these students (American Institutes for Research and WestEd, 2006). • 31. Keats s Reflection Of Autumn, The Season Of Fog And Growth The poet speaks of autumn, the season of fog and production. The first line portrays autumn as a period of growth. Autumn is a close friend of the maturing sun. The word maturing is used to describe the shorter daylight of winter. Together, autumn and the sun help the vines that wrap around thatched roofs bear fruit. The image of growth persists in the following lines; the poet describes plants and fruits bending or changing shape in reaction to their development: trees bend with the weight of ripening apples, gourds grow in size, and kernels develop in the centers of hazelnuts. Flowers continue to multiply until the bees feel as if warm days will never end. Summer has made its harvest so bountiful that it s described as o er brimmed or bursting. In the second stanza, the poet directly addresses autumn. To Keats, autumn is a figure that can be found in the middle of its job, which is to facilitate nature s growth. Autumn can be discovered sitting in a granary, or storehouse for threshed grain, the blowing wind lifting autumn s hair. Someone might also stumble across autumn asleep outside on a half harvested trench, made drowsy by the scent of poppies. Autumn s scythe is unused against the next line of flowers. The poet additionally compares autumn to a gleaner who carries the leftovers of the harvest on top of her head while she crosses a stream. Another activity of autumn is to watch the juice being squeezed from apples for hours. The third stanza opens with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) and some states and cities have raised their minimum wage even higher than that. minimum wage was first introduced during the great depression in 1930s. Before it was introduced thousands of people were forced to work in horrible conditions for pennies a week. Early attempts on minimum wage was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S supreme court, because it restricted people from deciding what they wanted to pay their workers. The Charter established that the purpose of the General Assembly was to find solutions to potential threats to international peace and security and other issues within the scope of the Charter. It also gave the General Assembly responsibility for appointing non permanent members to the Security Council and overseeing the United Nations budget.1 In order to fulfill this mission, the General Assembly today passes resolutions that recommend actions that the international community should take in order to address a particular pressing problem. Although the resolutions passed by the General Assembly are not legally binding, they still have clout because they represent international consensus decisions and are often seen as the international moral norm. Since its creation, the General Assembly has successfully passed various resolutions in order to fulfill its goals as outlined by the United Nations Charter. INTRODUCTION Even though the actual condition is much more complex, wrought iron, cast iron and steel can be thought of alloys made of iron and carbon. Iron is basically extracted from natural ores iron oxide (FeO). Iron oxide heated to high temperatures become iron. FeO + C → Fe + CO We get pig iron from this process which is not pure form and includes Iron carbide and material is made hard along with brittleness. CAST IRON Cast iron is produced by remelting pig iron with some amount of scrap iron. It is remelted by blowing air into the molten mass of two until the carbon content is between 2.40 and 4.00 percent. Thus contemporary cast iron is formed which exists in two forms : grey cast iron and white cast iron. The strength limitations of cast iron were gradually overcome by the development of a process called puddling . Puddling involves reheating cast iron and manually mixing air in the molten form. • 44. The Adoption Of Autonomous Vehicles 2.1 Introduction There are roughly 250 million registered motor vehicles in the United States (Blanco, 2010). This corresponds to almost one vehicle for every citizen. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the average American driver drives almost 40 miles every day (FHA, 2011). Given how heavily vehicles are used today, especially in the United States, their replacement with autonomous vehicles could easily have far reaching implications. The adoption of autonomous vehicles into society could affect a multitude of issues. Among these issues are safety, cost, productivity, legality, public opinion, and the environment. Each will be touched upon in this section. It is important to have a general knowledge of these areas in order to better understand the speed at which autonomous vehicles might be adopted. We ve chosen these areas specifically because we expect them to be the biggest factors in the adoption of autonomous vehicles. However, it s important to keep in mind that some of the technologies that will be discussed are still being developed. Therefore the implications that are dependent on technologies still being developed can be considered somewhat speculative. 2.2 Safety One of the major incentives for developing autonomous vehicles is the potential impact on vehicle safety. In 2009, there were 10.8 million motor vehicle accidents in the US, resulting in 35,900 deaths (Census 2012). It s estimated that over 90% of all accidents are due to ... • 45. Neighborhood Violence Richmond, Calif. IN 2007, this city of about 100,000 people, north of Berkeley, had the dubious distinction of being the ninth most dangerous in America. That year saw a total of 47 homicides. In some neighborhoods, gunfire was almost a daily event. At one point, the City Council considered asking the governor to declare a state of emergency and send in the National Guard. Instead, in 2007, the city created the Office of Neighborhood Safety. (I am the founding director.) Our mission was simple: to tackle this epidemic of gun violence that was killing so many young men, mostly in our minority communities. We modeled our approach on Cure Violence, a community outreach program in Chicago founded by the epidemiologist Gary Slutkin. The Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average cost to taxpayers of every gun homicide in America is nearly $400,000. In contrast, the costs of our program were modest. In practice, we have rarely needed to pay the full amount offered under the terms of our deal: Just over half our fellowship participants receive payments, usually in the $300 to $700 range. So if our program prevented gun deaths, there could be little argument about cost effectiveness. It did. In the first year of Operation Peacemaker, homicides in Richmond fell to 22 (from 45 in 2009). In five years of our program, through 2014, we have seen the number of homicides in Richmond, which had averaged 40 a year, more than halved; firearm assaults in general fell by a similar proportion. In 2014, we celebrated the lowest number of firearm assaults and homicides in more than four decades. Richmond recorded a 76 percent reduction in homicides and a 69 percent reduction in firearm assaults from 2007, when the Office of Neighborhood Safety was created. In reality, we ve achieved these results not simply by the cash incentive. Our change agents work with about 150 clients a year, at a cost of about $20,000 per person, which pays for daily mentoring, coaching and companionship. By comparison, it costs our city about $200,000 to hire one new police ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Reflective Essay On Learning When it comes to learning, the majority of people have their own way of getting a specific task done. Since the day that we began learning in school, our ability to learn has developed as we advance through each grade level. In kindergarten, we were beginning to develop the necessary skills to memorize simple math and basic English. Once we started in college, however, our ability to complete long readings and assignments is expected to be ready for the college level. Some students have learned new learning strategies while others have kept to the same game plan. Much of high school is meant to prepare the student for the workload and difficulty of college courses. Some students push themselves every year to become better learners while others, tend to postpone assignments until the last minute. Each year the difficulty of the assignments given increases greatly and our ability to learn new strategies is important to the work process. Each student has a different strategy that they follow in order to complete an assignment. While some students begin assignments ahead of time and plan ahead, others do not attempt to learn new strategies and leave their work for last minute. Learning to learn is a process that takes much time and dedication in order to achieve. In many cases, students stick to the strategies that they know best. Their strategies can vary from deep reading to simply skimming through the reading. In my case, I consider myself in the middle of this learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Project Mercury Thesis Statement In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik, and the space race was on. The Soviet s triumph jarred the American people and sparked a vigorous response in the federal government to make sure the United States did not fall behind its communist rival. A new space program, Project Mercury, was initiated two years later, during President Dwight D. Eisenhower s administration. Seven men were selected to take part in the program: Scott Carpenter, Leroy Gordon Cooper, John Glenn Jr., Virgil Grissom, Walter Schirra Jr., Alan Shepard Jr., and Donald Slayton. Project Mercury s goals were to orbit a manned spacecraft around Earth, investigate the ability of astronauts to function in space, and recover astronauts and spacecraft safely. Then, ... Each spacecraft was composed of two main parts: an orbiter designed to photograph the surface of Mars from orbit, and a lander designed to study the planet from the surface. The orbiters also served as communication relays for the landers once they touched down. It was highly successful and formed most of the body of knowledge about Mars through the late 199os and early 2ooos. Viking 1 was launched on August 2o, 1975, and the second craft, Viking 2, was launched on September 9, 1975, both riding atop Titan III E rockets with Centaur upper stages. Viking 1 entered Mars orbit on June 19, 1976, with Viking 2 following suit on August 7. After orbiting Mars for more than a month and returning images used for landing site selection, the orbiters and landers detached; the landers then entered the Martian atmosphere and soft landed at the sites that had been chosen. The Viking 1 lander touched down on the surface of Mars on July 2o, 1976, and was joined by the Viking 2 lander on September 3. The orbiters continued imaging and performing other scientific operations from orbit while the landers deployed instruments on the surface. 3. other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Intellectual Roots Of Modern Day Environmentalism Many people today do not understand or appreciate the lasting effects that the environmental movement of the 1960s brought to our world. The things that most people immediately associate with the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years. The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to initiate change. Influential figures in the 1960s were the first ones to bring to light the urgency of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
