Face Uniform Gyrus Face Recognition Study
A group of scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the United States discovered
that the region of the brain responsible for face recognition grows in children and adults. The
discovery surprised scientists because it was widely believed that brain development didn t involve
tissue growth in adulthood, but rather neuroplasticity. Until now, it was thought that brain
development occurred exclusively through a process called synaptic pruning a mechanism of
destruction of the synapses (connections between the neurons) that are rarely used, opening the way
for the development of stronger and more effective synapses.
A growing fusiform gyrus
This is the first time that research has found evidence that tissue in this region of the brain, called
fusiform gyrus, increases in size from childhood to adulthood. Previous research suggested that most
changes in brain tissue occurred during childhood (0 2 years) and involved either synaptic pruning or
tissue shrinkage. To make the discovery, which will force science to rethink the anatomical
development of the brain over the years, researchers recruited 22 children (aged 5 12) and 25 adults.
They were subjected to visual recognition tests of faces and places and functional magnetic resonance
and quantitative magnetic resonance imaging tests.
Functional magnetic resonance imaging was used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the observations suggest that cortical tissue proliferation is taking placing. Subsequent
examination of postmortem brains validated Gomez team s observations. The findings are coherent
with the previous observations that adults tend to recognize faces better than children. Neuroscientist

through life, additional neurological facilities for facial processing become a

Snow White Archetypes
Taylia Terrell Mrs. Weiner English 4 13 September 2017 Hunting Down the Archetypes Archetypes
play a big role in many books, short stories, TV shows, and movies. There are several different kinds
of archetypes, but many of the same archetypes can be repeated throughout a storyline. An archetype
could be a character, theme, symbol, or even a setting. Some examples of those include: The Bully (a
character who intimidates others), White (a color that represents purity and peace), and The Garden (a
setting in which fertility and love are symbolized). In Snow White and the Huntsman, many
archetypes are brought to the viewer s attention. The Devil Figure is a common archetype; it is one
who is infatuated with evil, offers worldly goods in exchange ... Show more content on

In the story that everyone knows, Snow White is the fairest of them all. She is pure, kind, innocent,
and has good knowledge. All of those things fall under the White archetype. She also shows us the
Battle between Good and Evil. Typically, good triumphs. This archetype is normally seen as light
versus dark. Snow White is originally running from the Queen, and along the way she fights many
obstacles, such as, the Queen s guards/armies. Eventually, she develops her own army and goes to
fight Ravenna. Which brings me to the Light and Darkness Archetype: light is a symbol of hope and
renewal whereas darkness symbolizes the unknown, ignorance, evil, and despair. Snow White is pure,
honored, and gives an example of hope to reestablish her kingdom, while The Queen is anything but
honored. The people of the kingdom resent her and the darkness that she displays. Last but not least,
Snow White exhibits The Task archetype. In this archetype, the hero will save a kingdom and identify
themselves so that she may assume her rightful position. Snow White s task is to restore life and take
back the kingdom that was taken from her by the

Cooking Class Teaches More Than Cooking
COOKING CLASS TEACHES MORE THAN COOKING.
Written By Francois Thurston.
I was recently given the privilege of joining the Iramoo community centre s Men s cooking group and
I have to say it was an absolute joy. But what started out as a look into a cooking class, turned out to
be so much more.
The class started with Chef Vito explaining that today they would be making pumpkin soup. The class
is a mixture of different people and though it is a men s class it couldn t be more varied or inclusive
with men of all ages and even caters for men with disabilities. Chef Vito runs the class with sheer
enthusiasm and a passion for cooking that is quite clear as he demonstrates how to carve a whole
pumpkin to the group.
Unlike your average cooking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As can often happen in the kitchen, someone makes a mistake or doesn t do something the way that
they have been instructed. Now I ve been in and seen situations in cooking classes of all varying types
and when you make a mistake, fear is placed inside of you as the head chef gets upset. Not here at
Men s cooking group however, Chef Vito keeps his critiques plain and simple making it not only easy
to understand but you don t fear making another mistake an absolute credit to Chef Vito.
About a quarter of the way through the class a man in a wheel chair comes in and he is put straight to
work. Unlike in other situations where this man may have to wait and sit out, vegetables are placed in
front of him immediately for him to chop, clearly another sign that no one is excluded here.
The pumpkin soup starts coming along really nicely, when suddenly the lovely ladies from the Iramoo
Strollers Walking Group come strolling in. The men stopped what they were doing at once and stood
to attention and greeted the ladies in from their walk. By this stage I confess, coming from a younger
generational background, I am completely blown away by the respect and comradely between
everyone. These men and women, above the requirement of their respective classes, know how to
appreciate and respect one another. Chef Vito offers the ladies some lemons and unlike my age group
all of the men chorused his offer. I am absolutely dumbfounded by the respect

Examples Of Immature In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is known far and wide as a masterpiece, it is even said to be one of the greatest love
stories of all time. Who could forget Romeo and Juliet s blooming romance at the masquerade, or their
exchange on Juliet s balcony, and their while rather immature, their marriage. Romeo and Juliet also
dealt with the theme of the futility of violence shown through Tybalt and his death. At the same time,
however, it is also known for its tragic end. Romeo and Juliet are madly in love but they are simply
too young, too immature, to deal with their lot in life. Romeo and Juliet s shared immaturity and
rashness are the cause of their very own doom. Both Romeo and Juliet are rash and immature
throughout the play, however Romeo and Juliet were immature differently in act one and two than
they are in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Romeo is seen, he is dejected because Rosaline refused his affections, One fairer than my love? The

Romeo is putting Rosaline on a pedestal, he has become emotionally invested early, and set himself up
for the disappointment he feels. Later in act one and two, Romeo again puts someone on a pedestal,
when he sees Juliet, he immediately becomes infatuated, this infatuation led him to becoming
emotionally invested once more, a show of his immaturity. Romeo seemingly forgets Rosaline in the
blink of an eye, did my heart love till now? (Romeo act one scene three) which raises a question, did
he really love Rosaline? In these

Comparing The American Bill Of Independence And The...
As the flame of revolution spread throughout the world, the ideas of a better government were shared;
The American Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of the Rights of Man
show how France and America borrowed ideas during a trying time in the country. The Declaration of
Independence was written during the beginning battles of the American Revolution and not long after
France followed suit with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Similar in ideas to
the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, The American Bill of Rights was crucial in
the ratification of the Constitution because without it many of the anti federalists feared their basic
rights being taken away. All three documents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the documents were written for different causes, their overall purpose remains similar. Without
the Declaration of Independence, disgruntled colonists would not have been brought together to fight
for the cause. During the revolution soldiers stood together as one, setting brother equal to brother. In
a similar manner, the Bill of Rights united the colonists in mindset; that every man should be allowed
rights. The Bill of Rights corrected many of the wrongdoings by the English government that made
the colonists revolt, to prevent a revolution from happening in America. The Declaration of
Independence and the Bill of Rights unified the nation as a whole. It is no surprise that the Declaration
of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the American Bill of rights share many similarities. The
Bill of Rights restated many ideas from the Virginia Declaration of Rights, crafted by George Mason.
The Declaration of the Rights of Man was also influenced by Mason s ideas during the framing of the
document. Both pieces were heavily influenced by John Locke s philosophies of every man s right to
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The similarities between the documents show their close
connection in idea and

Study of the Influence of Teacher Effectiveness
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Background to the study
As a teacher in the secondary school system in Nigeria for many years, experience has shown that,
there are two categories of teachers the good or effective teachers, and the bad or ineffective teachers
observable from among teachers in the school system.
The effective teachers are perceived to be fully equipped naturally and professionally to lead their
students to success in competitive standardized tests, as well as inculcate in them, values that would
make them exhibit behaviours that are generally desirable and acceptable.
On the other hand, the ineffective teachers do not care about the success of their students in
examinations, and, in some cases, students who pass through such teachers, ... Show more content on

This behaviour has the tendency of reducing productivity and efficiency on the part of the teachers.
These ill behaved teachers as they may be described may tend to produce their types from among the
students, since children tend to emulate adults they see as their models. In the fore going descriptions
of teachers in the school system, it is evident that, there exists two categories of teachers, but what
attributes or characteristics define the effective and ineffective teachers?
Highet (1977), in identifying the kinds of teachers, said that, there are good or effective teachers, and
bad or ineffective teachers, and amateur teachers who are neither good enough nor too bad in teaching
activities. In this study, the researcher categorized teachers into two, because whatever that is not
good, in definitely, bad. Denigrating the bad teachers, Highet (1977), said that bad teaching wastes a
great deal of effort, and spoils many lives which might have been full of energy and happiness. Giving
support for the existence of effective and ineffective teachers in the school system, Vernon cited in
Gammage (1971), said that most of those in the teaching profession who are well adjusted are
somewhat extroverted, but many other personality types do excellent work and that there are certainly,
large number of misfits. The researcher, through a wide range of consultation in various literatures,
has firmly established the

Changes in Algerian Foreign Policy Under Bouteflika s...
When Bouteflika became President in 1999, there were no indications that the Algerian foreign policy
would undergo any change. Alexis Arieff s assumption that: The legacy of Algeria s anti colonial
struggle contributes to Algerian leaders desire to prevent direct foreign intervention, their residual
scepticism of French intentions, and Algeria s positions on regional affairs, including a non
interventionist stance (1) was an anticipation that no far reaching variations in the Algerian foreign
policy could be expected. More than that, being one of the chief architects of Algeria s nationalist
foreign policy of the 1960s and 1970s, Bouteflika s known attitude to foreign policy suggested
continuity rather than any radical break with the recent past. Similarly, the prevailing political
situation in Algeria suggested that there was almost no prospect that the tensions in Algerian Western
relations would diminish in the foreseeable future.
However, if one considers Algeria s domestic imperatives, geostrategic considerations, the fast
changing regional and international order, and the country s foreign policy outlook, then one logically
realises that the prevailing geopolitical context in Algeria, starting from the 1990s, necessitated a new
foreign policy paradigm; one that adapts to the changing realities without necessarily compromising
the doctrines, principles and practices that drove the foreign policy of the government since
independence in 1962 (Boukhars).

The Character of Scarlet in Gone With the Wind
My Dear, I don t give a damn, (718) Rhett Butler says this infamous quote to Scarlet O Hara at the end
of Gone With the Wind (1934), when the woman has finally poured her soul to him. The novel Gone
with the Wind (1934) by Margaret Mitchell is a classic about the hard times suffered during and after
the Civil War. Scarlet lives in the Confederacy and everyone there is for fighting for his or her noble
Cause. The young southern belle Scarlet O Hara is forced to do things she never thought a girl of her
class and nature would have to do. All throughout the novel, she is faced with serious problems.

about facts like these. By telling herself this, she is able to continue on thinking to herself that
although he cannot show it, Ashley really loves her. He just cannot let it show because he almost has
to marry Melanie. All throughout her life, Scarlet goes back to this idea, always doing things for
Ashley, or at least, she tells herself they are for him. The reader sees all these little things as Scarlet
doing acts of kindness towards others. Acts of kindness are not something the Scarlet at the beginning
of the book would do, but now she works herself to the bone, to make sure Ashley has food, but really
she is supporting his whole family, as well as her own. She begins to lose the selfish part of her
attitude
Scarlet herself marries Charlie Hamilton. He dies in the Civil war that was now raging. Everyone went
to war to fight for the Cause . Although everyone s idea of exactly what the Cause was differed, it s
what everyone fought for. On her wedding day, she saw all the people from the top of the stairs at her
home on the beloved plantation Tara, and full of fear she thought, This can t be real, it s a nightmare,
but I won t think of it all now, I ll think of it later (90). Once again, she tells herself something to make
her feel better but never solves the problem. She was terrified

People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott vs. Sanford
People, Power, Politics of Dred Scott v. Sanford The American court system has effectively used
technicalities in cases they want a winning decision in since the conception of the United States of
America. No other example concerning slavery is better illustrates this than Dred Scott v. Sanford.
This case has become infamous not only because the decision, but because it was a major stepping
stone made in the progress of getting equal rights for negroes. Loopholes in the constitution ultimately
kept Scott a slave, but he made monumental progress in 1857 when he went to the Supreme Court and
attempted to sue for his own freedom. The Dred Scott V. Sanford case talks about what came of his
case and what he was suing for and the loophole used by the Federal court system. During a time of
uncertainty for the nation, at the helm of this uncertainty was the negro man during the abolitionist
movements and the exact rights they haven t been given until post the civil war. Slavery had been the
central issue of the civil war. During the abolitionist movement, slavery was a revisited issue and now
not only Negros opposed it, but many Northern white men as well. The abolitionist movement had
begun to transform northern public opinion: many citizens now firmly opposed slaveries extensions to
any of the territories North, or South. as stated by Corey Robin (107), who introduces the Dred Scott
v. Sanford case. Though the negroes gained more support through northern

NFL season he rushed for 698 yards in 10 games and earned himself a Pro Bowl selection. But an

New Approaches to Software Testing Essay
INTRODUCTION
Software Testing can be termed as process of validating and verifying a computer program with intent
to check whether it meets the requirements which guided in design and development, ensure that
system works as expected, system is implemented with desired characteristics and satisfies the needs
of its stake holders. This process consumes nearly 50% of product development costs, hence is a
costly and time consuming process. The growing complexity of modern software applications has
triggered tester s interest in leveraging new approaches to improve software quality.
Software Testing is classified into following types based on the various criteria:

Test process models classify testing process based on the various Software Development Lifecycle
models adopted in development process like Waterfall model, Spiral model, Agile model, Test driven
development. The testing includes the corresponding tailored models of testing for the model used in
SDLC.
Software testing is intended to find errors and defects during the software product development.
Therefore sufficient effort is required to ensure that system is in line with the requirements of the
corresponding phase. Manual generation of test cases and applying them on the System under Test
(SUT) is a laborious process and depends on skill and expertise of the tester performing the process of
testing. A test Engineer has to keep track of several issues during testing like what test cases shall
exercise the program, ensure maximum coveragability, determine whether adequate testing has been
done, check whether sufficient test cases are available to meet the testing requirements on time,
approaches and methods involved in testing, extent of automation in testing etc.. As the above process
involves much human intervention, the efficacy of the process is not consistent.
To ensure the better outcome as for the result of the efforts, the process of software testing needs to be
automated. Automation of software testing involves testing the software with robust

The Characteristics Of Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis ,most famously known as the president of the Confederate States during the Civil War,
was an interesting subject of the 19th century. You would think it was because of his contributions to
the war or lack thereof, but unfortunately he is associated more with his peculiar characteristics. Many
of the characteristics are equivalent to those of basic people carrying out normal lives. The expectancy
of loyalty and respect, indecisiveness, and not being capable of admitting faults, we all know someone
with at least one of these traits, maybe even all of them. So why was it so unique in the case of
Jefferson Davis? Although these were normal traits, the life that Davis lived was not. With such a
public demanding job, every aspect of his life was showcased and under close observation. The
struggle between Davis and his overpowering attributes not only had an effect on his relationships and
friendships, but they also had an impact, not completely negative or positive, on the way he completed
his job. As a child, Davis practically had no say in determining his future. His father Samuel Emory
Davis, although he wasn t the most emotionally present, determined almost every aspect of his son s
life up to his death. It was he that sent Davis to boarding to school at a young age and choose what
university he would attend. Even after the death of Samuel, Davis still did not take control of his life.
His older brother Joseph became the next placeholder for the

Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley
Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt
Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done
something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student
(Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father
Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a
naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father
Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic
Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students
is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory
chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the
works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt
and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and
how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Ego ensures that the impulses of the id is expressed in
an acceptable behavior. Superego provides guidelines and morals for making judgments. (Brizee)
Sister Aloysius id desires to get rid of Father Flynn immediately. Her superego is diminished since she
lied to Father Flynn. Her ego is shown

a job you love, a wife, and children. But sadly he s far from his dream. He is a chauffeur for a rich
white man, and must drive him around in an expensive car that he could never afford. Walter s dream
is also deferred when he is told that good old Willy Harris absconded with the money for his and his
family s dreams. Hearing this Walter says Willy!...Man, I put my life in your hands...Man...THAT
MONEY IS MADE OUT OF MY FATHER S FLESH. (2.3.128). Walter is very angry after when he

that a man he trusted with his life ran away with the money that symbolized his dead father. So all the

Community Oriented Policing Pros And Cons

three years. With his years of experience, Chief Kelly talked about primarily three main ideas:
Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing.
Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation. To
utilize problem solving successfully, it is necessary to use the three types of knowledge police officers
use when faced with a situation: Classical, Situational, and Procedural. Chief Kelly then proceeded to

officers that have made this department so successful. The first goal was to actually asses and look at
the criminal rates to show where and what types of criminal are predominate in the area. From there
the officers try to help those at risk. By using the mindset of establishing a good relationship with the
community, it has helped the department reach out to the minority groups located in Abington. So if
any sort of discrimination fears against police are an issue, these groups are working with the police to
help form a better relationship. Arguably the most important goal, Chief Kelly set a goal to ASK the

You Tube Video Marketing Has Changed Dramatically Over The...
You Tube video marketing has changed significantly over the years. One recent significant change is
the merge between TrueView and AdWords for video. Before we look at the merger and how it will
affect video marketing, let us briefly look at each of these concepts:
TrueView
This is an advertising format for You Tube videos. You only get to pay only if a viewer watches your
video. You are therefore able to reach a targeted audience. Two TrueView formats are available: in
stream and in display.
In stream
These ads play before a video. They can also play when another video is playing. The viewers can
choose to skip the ad after 5 seconds. If they watch for 30 seconds or more, you pay for the ad.
In display
These ads are among other videos on You Tube. They can also be found on You Tube search pages, or
even on websites on the Google Display Network. You only pay when a viewer chooses to watch the
video, that is, when they click on the ad.
Google AdWords for video
This marketing format allows for the displaying of video ads in You Tube search results, before,
during, and after videos have played on You Tube or on the Google Display Network. Unlike
traditional AdWord campaigns, you use demographic targeting, which helps you reach your target
audience.
The two You Tube video marketing formats, TrueView and AdWords for video, seem to be similar at
face value. This is because to create and even manage TrueView video campaigns, you had to access a

SLE Essay
The most common visceral organ that is affected in SLE is the kidneys; even though approximately
50% of SLE patients develop clear manifestations of renal disease, the vast majority of the patients
have some degree of renal involvement as demonstrated by biopsy studies [29]. The most common
devastating symptom of SLE is lupus nephritis [30]. SLE patients also have neurological
manifestations that have been reported in 25 75% of patients and can involve all parts of the nervous
system [31]. These include headaches, cognitive deficits, psychosis, depression, and epileptic seizures
[32]. Pleurisy with pleuritic chest pain with or without pleural effusions is the most common feature of
pulmonary involvement in SLE [33]. Cardiac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although these criteria were developed for classification, they are extensively used for diagnosis of
patients. These criteria include the most important manifestations of SLE, namely mucocutaneous,
articular, serosal, nephrologic, neurologic, hematologic, and immunologic. The patient must fulfill at
least 4 of the 11 ACR criteria (listed in Table 1) to be diagnosed as an SLE patient. The criteria must
be fulfilled at any time in the patient s history and symptoms may occur simultaneously or in
succession [38, 39]. In 2012, the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) had
published new classification criteria in which the patient must present with at least 4 of 17 SLICC
classification criteria (listed in Table 2), including at least one clinical and one immunologic criterion.
Nonetheless, SLICC has not been extensively used in studies to determine the incidence of SLE [2,
40]. Due to the complexity of SLE and its diversity in immunological and clinical manifestations, the
assessment of the disease activity poses a challenge. Therefore numerous clinical indices have been
developed for the assessment of the activity of the disease due to the absence of single biomarker that
adequately reflects the activity of SLE. There are two main types of activity measures in SLE. The
European Consensus Lupus Activity Measurements (ECLAM), Systemic Lupus Activity Measure
(SLAM) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) are examples of

Standards rely heavily on the network effect, which is the idea that the effectiveness of a standard is
based on the number of people who use it. As a result, standards that are complicated to implement,
especially ones dealing with technology, are heavily dependent on incentives in order to get a
sufficient amount of people to use it. Looking at PICS and PCI DSS, two Internet standards, where
one succeeded and the other failed, we can see what makes standards effective online.
Platform for Internet Control Selection (PICS) was an Internet standard formed by W3C in 1996 to
allow parents to filter content, primarily nudity. It was completely voluntary and up to the website
owners themselves to label their own site. This is because the ... Show more content on

Payment card industries must follow step by step instructions in order to have transactions accepted.
So why do these demanding standards work?
As Larry Lessig mentions in Code is Law, there are four areas that influence policy: law, economy,
architecture, and social norms. Working on a sole standard together for security benefits everyone and
is thus economical because the cost of losing customer data is enormous. On the other hand,
competition for filtering software can at worst lead some to filter less porn than others. After the
Communications Decency Act, which tried to limit obscenity and indecency on the web, was ruled
unconstitutional, it removed all legal ramifications for not using PICS software. There is no reason to
limit information. On the flip side ignoring PCI could land a company in court for negligence. A
strong and commonly used standard works well as a legal benchmark for liability in protecting data.
The burden on the user also differs. Individuals are not expected to make sure their cards are PCI
certified; the vetting process is done at a higher level and simply offers the user a binary choice of
using a protected card or not. PICS not only requires owners to rate their sites, but also requires each
user to choose what they find acceptable or not, placing much more burden on the individual.
Based on comparing where PCI succeeded and PICS failed, it appears that the core motivator is the
law. The consequences of disobeying PCI

Rpr Technology
Resilient Packet Ring Technology 1 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background: The nature of
the public network has changed. Demand for Internet Protocol (IP) data is growing at a compound
annual rate of between 100% and 800%1, while voice demand remains stable. What was once a
predominantly circuit switched network handling mainly circuit switched voice traffic has become a
circuit switched network handling mainly IP data. Because the nature of the traffic is not well matched
to the underlying technology, this network is proving very costly to scale. User spending has not
increased proportionally to the rate of bandwidth increase, and carrier revenue growth is stuck at the
lower end of 10% to 20% per year. The result is that carriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ring topology is a natural match for SONET based TDM networks that constitute the bulk of existing
metro network infrastructure. However, there are well known disadvantages to using SONET for
transporting data traffic (or point to point SONET data solutions, like Packet over SONET [POS]).
SONET was designed for point to point, circuit switched applications (e.g. voice traffic), and most of
limitations stem from these origins. Here are some of the disadvantages of using SONET Rings for
data transport: 2.1.1 Fixed Circuits: SONET provisions point to point circuits between ring nodes.
Each circuit is allocated a fixed amount of bandwidth that is wasted when not used. For the SONET
network that is used for access in Figure 2 (left), each node on the ring is allocated only one quarter of
the ring s total bandwidth (say, OC 3 each on an OC 12 ring). That fixed allocation puts a limit on the
maximum burst traffic data transfer rate between endpoints. This is a disadvantage for data traffic,
which is inherently bursty. Department Of Computer Engineering, MCERC, Nashik. Resilient
Packet Ring Technology 4 2.1.2 Waste of Bandwidth for Meshing: If the network design calls for a
logical mesh, (right), the network designer must divide the OC 12 of ring bandwidth into 10
provisioned circuits. Provisioning the circuits necessary to create a logical mesh over a SONET Ring
is not only difficult but also results in extremely inefficient use of ring bandwidth. As the amount of

##equality In A Dolls House And A Midsummer Night s Dream
Both Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream portray men as
superior, leading to a common theme of gender inequality and discrimination within relationships. In
Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very
dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House,
the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior
role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested
on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is
the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is
clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called
discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do
that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set
to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating
macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just
how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he
insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen
35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora
is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and
to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217).
This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under
his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde
also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life
unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). She also states I want to

Plea Bargainning Essay
What is plea bargaining? Plea bargaining is the pre trial negotiation, which takes place in a criminal
procedure. During this procedure the defendant and has his attorney sits on one side, and the
prosecutor is on the other. The defendant either agrees to plead guilty or no contest to a crime. Another
element for plea bargaining would also be because the defendant reveals information such as location
of stolen goods, names of others participating in the crime or admission of other crime(s), such as a
string of burglaries. In return a reduction in charges, or dismissal of some charges, this has to be
approved by the judge, before accepting can take place. If the judge does not agree, then the plea
bargain is cancelled. In the book Law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still in some cases, prosecutors may be convinced that they have the right defendant and a completely
accurate charge as to what crime(s) he or she committed, and yet secure a conviction may be
questionable. This of course is beneficial for both sides to arrange a resolution of the matter without
either side taking the chance that the case may go against them if it was to go to trial.
It was also proven in 1998, which 92 percent of the cases presented were returned by Manhattan grand
juries. Statistic seems to support critics claims that the grand jury is little more than a rubber stamp
The majority of theses cases are resolved through plea agreements; fewer than 10 percent actually get
to trial, and of those, the Manhattan District Attorney s Office claims a conviction rate of 75 to 80
percent (Berger 31).
Although plea bargaining may be beneficial, there are some people that may think that there are
problems associated with it. Steven Silberblatt states, to be voluntary within the meaning of the Fifth
Amendment a statement by a criminal defendant must be a product of free will, unencumbered by
threats or promises.
Coercion of any kind, whether physical or psychological is prohibited (Silberblatt). This being the
case, why is the Criminal Justice system permitted to make promises and threats in order to induce
defendants to give up all of their constitutional rights, which

apparent that there was a biological reaction internally with the excerpt from above. The male, in
response to sexual stimuli, approaches the first phase of Masters and Johnson sexual response cycle,
the excitement phase. The female would have the similar reaction. However, there would also be
differences as well. Blood flow would be increased to the abdominal portions for both male and
female. However, this increased blood flow would create different environments for both. For
example, the male would have an increase in blood flow to the penis, which would cause constriction
in the blood vessels to form an erection. The female would have an increase in blood flow to the labia

Pros And Cons Of Free Trade In Canada
FREE TRADE IN CANADA
Intro:
Investopedia.com states, free trade is the economic policy of not discriminating against imports from
and exports to foreign jurisdictions. (Buyers and sellers from separate economies may voluntarily
trade without the domestic government applying tariffs, quotas, subsidies or prohibitions on their
goods or services.) In the previous decade, one of the many controversial subjects in the Canadian
economy included whether or not it was beneficial for our federal government to eradicate free trade
or open it up to other nations. During my research, I discovered that free trade agreements between
Canada and other nations were not as beneficial as they may have seemed for they were often business

The Invention Of The Electron Microscope By Ernst Ruska...
In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies and processes
used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The invention of the electron microscope
by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just an example of one of these advancements. There is
another advancement that has roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that is the green
fluorescent protein (GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to look through
a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The green fluorescent protein was
first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal jellyfish. It is a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish,
or hydromedusa (1). In the crystal jellyfish, there are two proteins that are responsible for its
bioluminescent, aequorin and GFP. They are both located in the photo organs of the jellyfish. The
jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to. The process of binding gives off a blue
light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light absorbed is then converted into the green light
that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there is no apparent reason for the bioluminescence
displayed by the Aequorea Victoria since it has not been observed being used as a defense mechanism
or as a signalling mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to
study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at Princeton University in 1960 and he and

A Serious Talk By Raymond Carver
Deepak Chopra once said, In the process of letting go, you will lose many things from the past, but
you will find yourself. In A Serious Talk by Raymond Carver, the reader observed tension due to the
absence of progression in developing a serious conversation. This conversation was planned by Burt,
the protagonist of this story, to relieve the troublesome relationship between him and his ex wife, Vera.
By letting go, Burt could release portions of his past that included his family; although, he could move
on to be happy and find his true meaning in life. Burt should be for the process of letting go because it
would allow him to find his true presence in life, eradicate the past which holds him down and reveal
the path of his future. The feeling of not understanding your presence in life can be frustrating and
sometimes leads to mental issues. By Burt trying to start a serious conversation with Vera, he thought
it may resolve problems rather than resulting in a fight. Burt does not know his place in life due to his
lack of letting go of Vera and his kids, which creates stress for him. Burt showed his lack of releasing
them from his life by saying, I want to apologize to you for last night. I want to apologize to the kids,
too (123). By Burt expressing his sorrow to Vera, one might say he has lost his place in life. It shows
his desperation to find people who love him, however he is doing this incorrectly because he keeps
going back to people who clearly do not care

Essay about Campaign Finance Reform
Campaign finance reform has a broad history in America. In particular, campaign finance has
developed extensively in the past forty years, as the courts have attempted to create federal elections
that best sustain the ideals of a representative democracy. In the most recent Supreme Court decision
concerning campaign finance, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Court essentially
decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend money on federal
elections through unlimited independent expenditures. In order to understand how the Supreme Court
justified this decision, however, the history of campaign finance in regards to individuals must be

Furthermore, these laws are particularly important because they deal with discussion of public issues
and debate on the qualifications of candidates. This sort of speech allows citizens to make an informed
decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the government, for
those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar Alexander Meiklejohn
argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self governance can only exist
insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and generous devotion to the
general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For these reasons, the ability to
spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it allows for the communication of
ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to protect this first amendment right,
however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in federal elections. The Federal Election
Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the structure of campaign finance, particularly
dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign contributions. Money in the form of a contribution
can easily be seen as a bribe, or an attempt to influence a candidate in the contributor s favor. FECA

The Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity
Outline the development of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity from the New Testament Church to
the Nicene Creed.
I will like to crave your indulgence to the fact that Nicene concept of Trinity is never stated in the
Bible, and it is that early Christians as well as the scriptures clearly points out the fact that Jesus was
fully divine and pre existent. For the fact that, none of the early Christian theologians fully asserted
the doctrine of the Trinity, not even a speculation about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. According to
the father of the paganism description of Trinity God can in no way be described. (Schindler 148).
In the 4th century there are different schools of thought that were developed in Antioch, were they try
to literarily interpret the Scriptures with a great deal of emphasis on the historical context of Trinity.
Arius who is also known as Nicene, came up with the Nicene Creed by arguing the fact that Jesus was
not God, and the Father by itself is true God. Base on the fact that God created Jesus, Arius was able
to support his argument with the books of (Proverbs 8:22 and John 14:28) the Father is greater than I
as a proof.
On the other hand, a number of philosophy was able to argue that Christ was homoousios (same or
one substance) in a way to debunk Nicene Creed by describing the relationship that exist between the
father and Son, by stating the fact that Jesus is God that come to earth as a man which is also the
Father. Arius believes that it

The Evolution Of Poverty During The Civil War
THE EVOLUTION OF POVERTY IN AMERICA
Missy Worrells
Modern History 1073
November 19, 2014
The Evolution of Poverty in America Poverty is a hardship that has existed in every milestone of
American history. War impacted the economy of the country after the Civil War. The twentieth century
would see wars, natural disasters, and economical depressions that contributed to the developing
culture of poverty. Poverty in any time period is a shattering experience. While being poor during the
Reconstruction, the Great Depression, and the Civil Rights movement were each devastating, the
nature of poverty would evolve as the culture of each decade evolved. The character of poverty
changed most dramatically over the years through Americans perception of standards of living and the
government s response to poverty. War always has a major impact on the economy of a country. The
Civil War threw the South into poverty. America had been divided by the Civil War and needed to find
a way to heal the rift. The way to do this seemed to be for the South to shift to industry, like the North.
During the 1880s, Henry W. Grady promoted the concept of the New South that would be modeled on
the industry of the North. He and his supporters promoted education and industrialization as the way
to rebuild the South. The southern states would grow tobacco and cotton, and expand their textile
industry. Yet the South was still was not prospering.
Southerners had to adjust to a new

Admittedly, form, length and literary devices are not requisite to a poem, as many fine free verse
poems illustrate, but this poem does not compensate for its lack of structure by enhancing its other
aspects. In Mary Oliver s poem Morning, there are no devices aside from alliteration, yet Oliver s
poem is much more complex and interesting for other reasons. The imagery is more artistic, the words
more creative, the syntax more fluid. Oliver describes the linoleum, the wild words, and the
curvaceous response of the lightly leaping cat. The only adjectives Williams uses, delicious, sweet,
and cold, are so common as to have been rendered banal in every reader s mind. Rather than making
the ordinary appear extraordinary through the clarity and discreteness of his imagery, as the
Encyclopaedia Britannica asserts, Williams succeeds only in making the ordinary appear well,
ordinary.
In fact, the whole poem is rather dull. There is no intrigue, no unusual phrase which catches the
attention, no unexpected yet perfect images such as Emily Dickinson s idea of quartz contentment in
her poem After great pain, a formal feeling comes . One might argue that Dickinson s poem would
naturally be more weighty because she was discussing a great pain, yet it is neither the simplicity of

Life Lessons in The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken
What would a typical person do if they had three wishes and knew that there would be a price that
they would have to pay in order for them to fulfill their wishes? This is the question that overcomes
the main characters, Mr. White and Mr. Peters, in the stories The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs and
The Third Wish by Joan Aiken. In these two stories, two men were allowed to create three wishes each
and had consequences that followed, therefore, they learned a valuable lesson about life. The men in
the two stories were distinct in their own ways, one being very greedy and the other very cautious. In
The Monkey s Paw, our main character was Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the men were granted three wishes, however, both men were told ahead of time to be wise
about their decisions. In The Monkey s Paw, Mr. White s first wish was to gain 200 pounds to pay off
his mortgage (page 91). Consequently, Mr. White paid a very high price for his wish. He lost his only
son, Herbert 9page 93 94). Mr. White s second wish was to bring his son back to life (page 95 96).
Well, Herbert died in a machinery malfunction, so if he was to bring his son back to life, he would be
distorted (page 95 96). Mr. White didn t want his son mutilated; therefore, he wished a third time. This
time he wished for his son to stay dead (page 98). Due to that wish, the White couple had to live a life
without their son. However, in the The Third Wish, we have a different case. In this story, Mr. Peters
was very careful about his wishes. Mr. Peters first wish was to have a wife as beautiful as the forest
(page 103). He got the wish, but he later realized that his wife was a swan and could not be happy as a
human. His wife, whose name was Leita, did not want to leave Mr. Peters, but truly missed her swan
sister (page 104). Mr. Peters, being the kind gentleman that he was, used his second wish to benefit his
wife. Mr. Peters wished his wife into the swan that she was once before (page 105), Since Mr. Peters
wished for his wife to be her normal self again, he had no companion. Now,

An Ode To The User-Friendly Pencil
Old school conquers new school: A personal response to An Ode to the User Friendly Pencil
Technology is upgrading itself and is, perhaps, taking over the world. From virtual reality to
supercomputers, people are depending more on technology in their everyday lives, but is it necessary?
Technology has reached the point where Samsung phones are becoming C4 explosives and 4K
televisions do not display 4K quality. In An Ode to the User Friendly Pencil by Bonnie Laing, she
explains how a simple pencil that we use in our everyday lives is better than a complex computer that
is technologically advanced, and through her ironic tone and economic line of reasoning, she gets that
message across to her readers which I firmly agree on. In her essay, she utilizes irony to add a
sarcastic tone in her essay, making the essay more enjoyable for readers to read. An example of this is
the use of computer jargon to explain why the pencil is the better tool. Laing states how the software
of a pencil is both cheap and simple (332) and how you can render it ... Show more content on

An example of that is how she fought and wrestled with [her] microchips (Laing, 332), which is an
example of personification. As we all know, a computer does not have human traits nor can it wrestle
with the user like WWE; however, Laing is explaining how it gets more complicated the more you use
a computer, and I agree with that. A computer is not smart; instead, it is the exact opposite. This is
because without a user, a computer is just a sitting duck without the proper programming. It needs to
be programmed to perform certain tasks or it needs a user to give it something to do in order to be
useful, which is what software engineers do for a living. From taking computer science, I can tell you
it is not an easy task, but rather, a hardworking one since we wrestle with the OS rather than the

The Famous Painting Of Abraham Lincoln Hangs At The Capitol
We often talk about Francis Bicknell Carpenter here at Cortland County Historical Society. His
famous painting of Abraham Lincoln hangs at the Capitol and he was born and raised in Homer.
However, there is another native of Cortland County who has three important statues prominently
displayed in Washington, D.C. Curious? His name was Clark Mills and he created the first equestrian
statue in America and his life began in Taylor. Clark Mills was born in Taylor but the information
available to us does not give us a definitive date. Suffice it to say that it was between 1810 and 1815.
His father died when he was just five years old and then he was placed with an uncle. This was typical
of the time as women had few options to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The horse appeared perfectly balanced on his hind legs and was very lifelike. It was agreed that he
would be paid $12,000 to execute the statue and the bronze would be provided. It took 2 years to make
the plaster cast and a lot of trial and error. A statue of this size of bronze had not been attempted in the
United States to that date. The bronze was from cannons which were captured by Andrew Jackson
during the second war with England. The statue was dedicated in January 8, 1853 and placed in
LaFayette Square in Washington, D.C. It is still there, directly across from the White House. Congress
was so pleased with the delightfully original statue that they added $20,000 to the fee which had
already been paid. With the mold already made, Mills was commissioned to make the same statue to
be placed in New Orleans in 1856. A third replica was ordered for Nashville, Tennessee and dedicated
in 1880. Mills next project was an equestrian statue of George Washington. He was also chosen to
complete Statue of Freedom which was designed by Thomas Crawford. Crawford had gotten as far as
making the plaster model but had died before having the chance to cast the statue in bronze. Mills
purchased land close to Washington and built a studio and a foundry to complete the orders which he
had received. The Washington statue was very different from the Jackson statue and Mills was paid
$50,000 to create it. The finished product was completed and dedicated in 1860 and

Immigration Crime Rate
These diagrams clearly indicate that the immigrants to the USA, do not impact crime rates. If you look
at Set 1, Figure 1, you will see that while the number of immigrants are increasing, the crime rates are
not increasing, they are decreasing. If you look at Set 1, Figure 2, you will see data for incarceration of
immigrants from 1970 to 2007. You can see that Persons incarcerated per 100000 is growing together
with Immigrants per 100000 , so no connection there. Set 3 is also similar to Set 1, but is presented in
a different way. These diagrams showed that there is no correlation between immigrant population and
crime rates, but statistically, immigrants are less likely than native born, to commit a crime.
Between 1990 and 2013, according to the FBI, violet crime rate declined by 48% and the property
crim rate declined by 41%. Around that period, the foreign born share of the USA population
increased from 7.9% to 13.1 and the number of unauthorized immigrants increased from 3.5 million to
11.2 million. According to immigrationpolicy.org, immigrants are less likely than the natives to be part
of some criminal behaviour. Immigrants are also less likely than the natives to be incarcerated. For
instance, according to American Community Survey, in 2010, of the immigrant males aged from 18 to
39, around 1.6 % were in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racism is a very important factor because for instance, according to cis.org, the number of black
natives arrested or sent to prison, is much higher than the other groups. This means that if the black
natives are included in the natives data for crime rates, then the overall crim rate for native will be
significantly higher. It will not be accurate to compare the crime rates of natives to immigrants,
assuming that most of the immigrants will be white. Even though immigrants have not committed
crimes at a higher rate than the natives, the recently moved immigrants have been breaking the

Cinderella Alternate Ending
The boy griped the cold, metal handle with his sweaty shaking hand. He was full of nerve, took a big
gulp, and opened the door only little. The only noise he could hear was the creaking of the door. The
room was silent. He opened the door wide open, and felt a cold breeze run passed him. Out came not
the tiger or lady, but the princess. The king slammed his fist down on his throne. NOOOO!!!!! yelled
the king. What is my daughter doing down there!?!?! yelled the king. The boy griped the princesses
soft hand. Until, a huge bang could be heard from the left door, the banging continued getting louder
and louder. Finally the wooden door shattered into thousands of pieces.
Out came a huge tiger with, fire orange fur, and pitch black stripes. The boy and princess stepped back
to the back of the stadium. The boy stood in front of the princess to protect her. Get down there and
stop my daughter from dying! yelled the king. Yes sir said a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Why are you helping me, I was unfair to you asked the king. I want to keep her happy answered the
boy. The boy pointed at the princess. The tiger got up and roared furiously with saliva shooting out of
its mouth. We can talk later, now it is time for action! yelled the king. The boy nodded. The boy and
king charged toward the furious tiger. Slashing their swords, they attacked the evil beast. The king ran
toward the tiger and failed to make a hit. The tiger then went straight toward the boy. Clawing the
sword out of his hand, the tiger knocked the boy on his back. The tiger leaped onto the boy s chest.
When he finally caught his breath, he spotted a rock not to far from his head. Getting drenched with
slobber, he reached for the rock. He grabbed it and then he hit the tiger with it, knocking it off him
instantly. He knew the tiger was dead. He helped the king up once again.

industry for a 10 years period starting from 2007 with 133,6 billion pound until the predicted market

2. PEST Analysis
2.1. Political
There are many political factors that can affect not only the supermarket industry in the UK but any
kind of business in the UK, those issues can be summarised in the following factors:
The possibility of UK leaving the European Union
One of the main recent political factors that will have a big impact on the UK supermarket industry is
the possibility of UK leaving the European Union that might becomes a definitive decision after the
June 2016 election. This decision might change the entire UK supermarket industry operations
because of the big number of goods that have been imported from the European Union with a free tax
because of the European Union free zone trade. Therefore, the withdrawal of the UK from the
European Union will cause a big rise in the prices of the imported products and materials from the
European Union, as a result of the increase of the import tax that was zero when the UK used to
follow the European Union regulations. Government regulations and initials

The Influences In Ambrose Bierce s Life
Ambrose Bierce, a civil war veteran and famous American writer, is most known for his book the
devils dictionary, in which he spoke out about the many things he disagreed with like politics and
wars. Most of his stories are very influenced by the time he spent in the war. He is best known for his
very cynical and sardonic outlook on human life, and was nicknamed bitter Bierce because of that.
The two biggest things in Bierce s life which influenced his writing were his childhood and the civil
war. Growing up Ambrose and his family lived in Meigs County, Ohio. His family was very old
fashioned and religious, however Ambrose did not agree with their ways and would often rebel against
them which would only result in him getting whipped, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The child then runs away and climbs a tree to take a more serious view where he sees a field of men
dragging their wounded bodies across a field in pain. the young boy then pretends to be a general
leading his troops to battle and eventually the boy and his troops arrive near his home where notices a
fire and as he runs towards it to find his mother but instead he sees her outside on the ground with a
pale face and her forehead torn away, she had been shot and killed as he tries to scream he lets out a
horrible sound which Ambrose describes as a startling soulless, unholy sound, the language of the
devil which meant the boy was a deaf mute boy. The story is meant to portray the violence if war and
the horrible reality of it. It s an anti war story that explains the horrors and response of a small
innocent child who is stuck in between the battle, but it also portraits how the people who are not
directly affected by the war reacted because in the beginning of the story the boy sees the soldiers as
funny and doesn t pay much attention and instead of being horrified he is delighted and even tries to
play along and lead them with his sword, but in the end he realizes the true gravity of what was
happening. Chickamauga encourages the readers to reevaluate and have a deeper understanding of

  • 2. Face Uniform Gyrus Face Recognition Study A group of scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the United States discovered that the region of the brain responsible for face recognition grows in children and adults. The discovery surprised scientists because it was widely believed that brain development didn t involve tissue growth in adulthood, but rather neuroplasticity. Until now, it was thought that brain development occurred exclusively through a process called synaptic pruning a mechanism of destruction of the synapses (connections between the neurons) that are rarely used, opening the way for the development of stronger and more effective synapses. A growing fusiform gyrus This is the first time that research has found evidence that tissue in this region of the brain, called fusiform gyrus, increases in size from childhood to adulthood. Previous research suggested that most changes in brain tissue occurred during childhood (0 2 years) and involved either synaptic pruning or tissue shrinkage. To make the discovery, which will force science to rethink the anatomical development of the brain over the years, researchers recruited 22 children (aged 5 12) and 25 adults. They were subjected to visual recognition tests of faces and places and functional magnetic resonance and quantitative magnetic resonance imaging tests. Functional magnetic resonance imaging was used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the observations suggest that cortical tissue proliferation is taking placing. • 3. Snow White Archetypes Taylia Terrell Mrs. Weiner English 4 13 September 2017 Hunting Down the Archetypes Archetypes play a big role in many books, short stories, TV shows, and movies. There are several different kinds of archetypes, but many of the same archetypes can be repeated throughout a storyline. An archetype could be a character, theme, symbol, or even a setting. Some examples of those include: The Bully (a character who intimidates others), White (a color that represents purity and peace), and The Garden (a setting in which fertility and love are symbolized). In Snow White and the Huntsman, many archetypes are brought to the viewer s attention. The Devil Figure is a common archetype; it is one who is infatuated with evil, offers worldly goods in exchange ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story that everyone knows, Snow White is the fairest of them all. She is pure, kind, innocent, and has good knowledge. All of those things fall under the White archetype. She also shows us the Battle between Good and Evil. Typically, good triumphs. This archetype is normally seen as light versus dark. Snow White is originally running from the Queen, and along the way she fights many obstacles, such as, the Queen s guards/armies. Eventually, she develops her own army and goes to fight Ravenna. Which brings me to the Light and Darkness Archetype: light is a symbol of hope and renewal whereas darkness symbolizes the unknown, ignorance, evil, and despair. Snow White is pure, honored, and gives an example of hope to reestablish her kingdom, while The Queen is anything but honored. The people of the kingdom resent her and the darkness that she displays. Last but not least, Snow White exhibits The Task archetype. In this archetype, the hero will save a kingdom and identify themselves so that she may assume her rightful position. Snow White s task is to restore life and take back the kingdom that was taken from her by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cooking Class Teaches More Than Cooking COOKING CLASS TEACHES MORE THAN COOKING. Written By Francois Thurston. I was recently given the privilege of joining the Iramoo community centre s Men s cooking group and I have to say it was an absolute joy. But what started out as a look into a cooking class, turned out to be so much more. The class started with Chef Vito explaining that today they would be making pumpkin soup. The class is a mixture of different people and though it is a men s class it couldn t be more varied or inclusive with men of all ages and even caters for men with disabilities. Chef Vito runs the class with sheer enthusiasm and a passion for cooking that is quite clear as he demonstrates how to carve a whole pumpkin to the group. Unlike your average cooking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As can often happen in the kitchen, someone makes a mistake or doesn t do something the way that they have been instructed. Now I ve been in and seen situations in cooking classes of all varying types and when you make a mistake, fear is placed inside of you as the head chef gets upset. Not here at Men s cooking group however, Chef Vito keeps his critiques plain and simple making it not only easy to understand but you don t fear making another mistake an absolute credit to Chef Vito. About a quarter of the way through the class a man in a wheel chair comes in and he is put straight to work. Unlike in other situations where this man may have to wait and sit out, vegetables are placed in front of him immediately for him to chop, clearly another sign that no one is excluded here. The pumpkin soup starts coming along really nicely, when suddenly the lovely ladies from the Iramoo Strollers Walking Group come strolling in. The men stopped what they were doing at once and stood to attention and greeted the ladies in from their walk. By this stage I confess, coming from a younger generational background, I am completely blown away by the respect and comradely between everyone. These men and women, above the requirement of their respective classes, know how to appreciate and respect one another. Chef Vito offers the ladies some lemons and unlike my age group all of the men chorused his offer. I am absolutely dumbfounded by the respect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who could forget Romeo and Juliet s blooming romance at the masquerade, or their exchange on Juliet s balcony, and their while rather immature, their marriage. Romeo and Juliet also dealt with the theme of the futility of violence shown through Tybalt and his death. At the same time, however, it is also known for its tragic end. Romeo and Juliet are madly in love but they are simply too young, too immature, to deal with their lot in life. Romeo and Juliet s shared immaturity and rashness are the cause of their very own doom. As the flame of revolution spread throughout the world, the ideas of a better government were shared; The American Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and The Declaration of the Rights of Man show how France and America borrowed ideas during a trying time in the country. The Declaration of Independence was written during the beginning battles of the American Revolution and not long after France followed suit with the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. The Bill of Rights corrected many of the wrongdoings by the English government that made the colonists revolt, to prevent a revolution from happening in America. The Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights unified the nation as a whole. It is no surprise that the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the American Bill of rights share many similarities. The Bill of Rights restated many ideas from the Virginia Declaration of Rights, crafted by George Mason. Study of the Influence of Teacher Effectiveness CHAPTER ONE 1.1 Background to the study As a teacher in the secondary school system in Nigeria for many years, experience has shown that, there are two categories of teachers the good or effective teachers, and the bad or ineffective teachers observable from among teachers in the school system. The effective teachers are perceived to be fully equipped naturally and professionally to lead their students to success in competitive standardized tests, as well as inculcate in them, values that would make them exhibit behaviours that are generally desirable and acceptable. On the other hand, the ineffective teachers do not care about the success of their students in examinations, and, in some cases, students who pass through such teachers, ... In the fore going descriptions of teachers in the school system, it is evident that, there exists two categories of teachers, but what attributes or characteristics define the effective and ineffective teachers? Highet (1977), in identifying the kinds of teachers, said that, there are good or effective teachers, and bad or ineffective teachers, and amateur teachers who are neither good enough nor too bad in teaching activities. In this study, the researcher categorized teachers into two, because whatever that is not good, in definitely, bad. Denigrating the bad teachers, Highet (1977), said that bad teaching wastes a great deal of effort, and spoils many lives which might have been full of energy and happiness. Giving support for the existence of effective and ineffective teachers in the school system, Vernon cited in Gammage (1971), said that most of those in the teaching profession who are well adjusted are somewhat extroverted, but many other personality types do excellent work and that there are certainly, large number of misfits. Alexis Arieff s assumption that: The legacy of Algeria s anti colonial struggle contributes to Algerian leaders desire to prevent direct foreign intervention, their residual scepticism of French intentions, and Algeria s positions on regional affairs, including a non interventionist stance (1) was an anticipation that no far reaching variations in the Algerian foreign policy could be expected. More than that, being one of the chief architects of Algeria s nationalist foreign policy of the 1960s and 1970s, Bouteflika s known attitude to foreign policy suggested continuity rather than any radical break with the recent past. Similarly, the prevailing political situation in Algeria suggested that there was almost no prospect that the tensions in Algerian Western relations would diminish in the foreseeable future. However, if one considers Algeria s domestic imperatives, geostrategic considerations, the fast changing regional and international order, and the country s foreign policy outlook, then one logically realises that the prevailing geopolitical context in Algeria, starting from the 1990s, necessitated a new foreign policy paradigm; one that adapts to the changing realities without necessarily compromising the doctrines, principles and practices that drove the foreign policy of the government since independence in 1962 (Boukhars). Sanford The American court system has effectively used technicalities in cases they want a winning decision in since the conception of the United States of America. No other example concerning slavery is better illustrates this than Dred Scott v. Sanford. This case has become infamous not only because the decision, but because it was a major stepping stone made in the progress of getting equal rights for negroes. Loopholes in the constitution ultimately kept Scott a slave, but he made monumental progress in 1857 when he went to the Supreme Court and attempted to sue for his own freedom. The Dred Scott V. Sanford case talks about what came of his case and what he was suing for and the loophole used by the Federal court system. During a time of uncertainty for the nation, at the helm of this uncertainty was the negro man during the abolitionist movements and the exact rights they haven t been given until post the civil war. Slavery had been the central issue of the civil war. During the abolitionist movement, slavery was a revisited issue and now not only Negros opposed it, but many Northern white men as well. The abolitionist movement had begun to transform northern public opinion: many citizens now firmly opposed slaveries extensions to any of the territories North, or South. as stated by Corey Robin (107), who introduces the Dred Scott v. You would think it was because of his contributions to the war or lack thereof, but unfortunately he is associated more with his peculiar characteristics. Many of the characteristics are equivalent to those of basic people carrying out normal lives. The expectancy of loyalty and respect, indecisiveness, and not being capable of admitting faults, we all know someone with at least one of these traits, maybe even all of them. So why was it so unique in the case of Jefferson Davis? Although these were normal traits, the life that Davis lived was not. With such a public demanding job, every aspect of his life was showcased and under close observation. The struggle between Davis and his overpowering attributes not only had an effect on his relationships and friendships, but they also had an impact, not completely negative or positive, on the way he completed his job. As a child, Davis practically had no say in determining his future. His father Samuel Emory Davis, although he wasn t the most emotionally present, determined almost every aspect of his son s life up to his death. It was he that sent Davis to boarding to school at a young age and choose what university he would attend. Even after the death of Samuel, Davis still did not take control of his life. • 17. Freudian Literary Analysis Of Doubt By John Patrick Shanley Freudian(Psychoanalytical) Literary Analysis of Doubt Doubt by John Patrick Shanley is about a nun who is entirely convinced that a priest had done something inappropriate to one of the students and taken advantage of the fact that the student (Donald Muller) is an African American. Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the nun, concluded that Father Flynn, the priest, had been forcing Donald Muller to drink wine and molesting him. With the help of a naive nun named Sister James, Sister Aloysius attempted to investigate her assumption of Father Flynn s actions even if it meant contacting Donald s mother. Sister Aloysius is a stereotypical splenetic Catholic School nun who believes that being an unsympathetic and oppressive person to the students is the most effective method in order to make the students oblige to her commands. The literary theory chosen for this literature work is the Freudian literary theory. Freudian literary theory is based on the works of Sigmund Freud and workings of the mind and instinct as well as sexuality. The play Doubt and Freudian literary theory can be related because Freud s work reveals the id, ego and superego and how it affects a person. Id is a natural instinct. Ego ensures that the impulses of the id is expressed in an acceptable behavior. Superego provides guidelines and morals for making judgments. Before we look at the merger and how it will affect video marketing, let us briefly look at each of these concepts: TrueView This is an advertising format for You Tube videos. You only get to pay only if a viewer watches your video. You are therefore able to reach a targeted audience. Two TrueView formats are available: in stream and in display. In stream These ads play before a video. They can also play when another video is playing. The viewers can choose to skip the ad after 5 seconds. If they watch for 30 seconds or more, you pay for the ad. In display These ads are among other videos on You Tube. They can also be found on You Tube search pages, or even on websites on the Google Display Network. You only pay when a viewer chooses to watch the video, that is, when they click on the ad. Google AdWords for video This marketing format allows for the displaying of video ads in You Tube search results, before, during, and after videos have played on You Tube or on the Google Display Network. Unlike traditional AdWord campaigns, you use demographic targeting, which helps you reach your target audience. The two You Tube video marketing formats, TrueView and AdWords for video, seem to be similar at face value. This is because to create and even manage TrueView video campaigns, you had to access a special section within AdWords ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SLE Essay The most common visceral organ that is affected in SLE is the kidneys; even though approximately 50% of SLE patients develop clear manifestations of renal disease, the vast majority of the patients have some degree of renal involvement as demonstrated by biopsy studies [29]. The most common devastating symptom of SLE is lupus nephritis [30]. SLE patients also have neurological manifestations that have been reported in 25 75% of patients and can involve all parts of the nervous system [31]. These include headaches, cognitive deficits, psychosis, depression, and epileptic seizures [32]. Pleurisy with pleuritic chest pain with or without pleural effusions is the most common feature of pulmonary involvement in SLE [33]. Cardiac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The patient must fulfill at least 4 of the 11 ACR criteria (listed in Table 1) to be diagnosed as an SLE patient. The criteria must be fulfilled at any time in the patient s history and symptoms may occur simultaneously or in succession [38, 39]. In 2012, the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) had published new classification criteria in which the patient must present with at least 4 of 17 SLICC classification criteria (listed in Table 2), including at least one clinical and one immunologic criterion. Nonetheless, SLICC has not been extensively used in studies to determine the incidence of SLE [2, 40]. Due to the complexity of SLE and its diversity in immunological and clinical manifestations, the assessment of the disease activity poses a challenge. Therefore numerous clinical indices have been developed for the assessment of the activity of the disease due to the absence of single biomarker that adequately reflects the activity of SLE. There are two main types of activity measures in SLE. Standards rely heavily on the network effect, which is the idea that the effectiveness of a standard is based on the number of people who use it. As a result, standards that are complicated to implement, especially ones dealing with technology, are heavily dependent on incentives in order to get a sufficient amount of people to use it. Looking at PICS and PCI DSS, two Internet standards, where one succeeded and the other failed, we can see what makes standards effective online. Platform for Internet Control Selection (PICS) was an Internet standard formed by W3C in 1996 to allow parents to filter content, primarily nudity. Payment card industries must follow step by step instructions in order to have transactions accepted. So why do these demanding standards work? As Larry Lessig mentions in Code is Law, there are four areas that influence policy: law, economy, architecture, and social norms. Working on a sole standard together for security benefits everyone and is thus economical because the cost of losing customer data is enormous. On the other hand, competition for filtering software can at worst lead some to filter less porn than others. After the Communications Decency Act, which tried to limit obscenity and indecency on the web, was ruled unconstitutional, it removed all legal ramifications for not using PICS software. There is no reason to limit information. On the flip side ignoring PCI could land a company in court for negligence. A strong and commonly used standard works well as a legal benchmark for liability in protecting data. The burden on the user also differs. Individuals are not expected to make sure their cards are PCI certified; the vetting process is done at a higher level and simply offers the user a binary choice of using a protected card or not. PICS not only requires owners to rate their sites, but also requires each user to choose what they find acceptable or not, placing much more burden on the individual. Based on comparing where PCI succeeded and PICS failed, it appears that the core motivator is the law. The consequences of disobeying PCI ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Rpr Technology Resilient Packet Ring Technology 1 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background: The nature of the public network has changed. Demand for Internet Protocol (IP) data is growing at a compound annual rate of between 100% and 800%1, while voice demand remains stable. What was once a predominantly circuit switched network handling mainly circuit switched voice traffic has become a circuit switched network handling mainly IP data. Because the nature of the traffic is not well matched to the underlying technology, this network is proving very costly to scale. User spending has not increased proportionally to the rate of bandwidth increase, and carrier revenue growth is stuck at the lower end of 10% to 20% per year. The result is that carriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ring topology is a natural match for SONET based TDM networks that constitute the bulk of existing metro network infrastructure. However, there are well known disadvantages to using SONET for transporting data traffic (or point to point SONET data solutions, like Packet over SONET [POS]). SONET was designed for point to point, circuit switched applications (e.g. voice traffic), and most of limitations stem from these origins. Here are some of the disadvantages of using SONET Rings for data transport: 2.1.1 Fixed Circuits: SONET provisions point to point circuits between ring nodes. Each circuit is allocated a fixed amount of bandwidth that is wasted when not used. For the SONET network that is used for access in Figure 2 (left), each node on the ring is allocated only one quarter of the ring s total bandwidth (say, OC 3 each on an OC 12 ring). That fixed allocation puts a limit on the maximum burst traffic data transfer rate between endpoints. This is a disadvantage for data traffic, which is inherently bursty. Department Of Computer Engineering, MCERC, Nashik. Resilient Packet Ring Technology 4 2.1.2 Waste of Bandwidth for Meshing: If the network design calls for a logical mesh, (right), the network designer must divide the OC 12 of ring bandwidth into 10 provisioned circuits. Provisioning the circuits necessary to create a logical mesh over a SONET Ring is not only difficult but also results in extremely inefficient use of ring bandwidth. As the amount of ... In Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House, the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen 35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217). This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). In the scientific community, there have been many advancements in the technologies and processes used to help us understand the truth of the world around us. The invention of the electron microscope by Ernst Ruska and Max Knoll in 1933 is just an example of one of these advancements. There is another advancement that has roots over one hundred and sixty million years old, and that is the green fluorescent protein (GFP). The fluorescence from GFP molecules has made it feasible to look through a microscope at a spatial resolution higher than the diffraction limit. The green fluorescent protein was first found in the Aequorea Victoria, or the crystal jellyfish. It is a bioluminescent hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusa (1). In the crystal jellyfish, there are two proteins that are responsible for its bioluminescent, aequorin and GFP. They are both located in the photo organs of the jellyfish. The jellyfish releases calcium ions which the aequorin binds to. The process of binding gives off a blue light, which is then absorbed by the GFP. The blue light absorbed is then converted into the green light that GFP is named for (2). At the moment there is no apparent reason for the bioluminescence displayed by the Aequorea Victoria since it has not been observed being used as a defense mechanism or as a signalling mechanism. Osamu Shimomura was the first person to isolate the GFP. He started to study the bioluminescence of crystal jellyfish at Princeton University in 1960 and he and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By letting go, Burt could release portions of his past that included his family; although, he could move on to be happy and find his true meaning in life. For the fact that, none of the early Christian theologians fully asserted the doctrine of the Trinity, not even a speculation about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. War impacted the economy of the country after the Civil War. The twentieth century would see wars, natural disasters, and economical depressions that contributed to the developing culture of poverty. Poverty in any time period is a shattering experience. While being poor during the Reconstruction, the Great Depression, and the Civil Rights movement were each devastating, the nature of poverty would evolve as the culture of each decade evolved. The character of poverty changed most dramatically over the years through Americans perception of standards of living and the government s response to poverty. War always has a major impact on the economy of a country. The Civil War threw the South into poverty. America had been divided by the Civil War and needed to find a way to heal the rift. The way to do this seemed to be for the South to shift to industry, like the North. During the 1880s, Henry W. The cost of replace the exterior door, between the jail s interior and the sally port, has been quoted at $6,684, to include materials and labor. The new handles present less of a security risk because they do not stick out in a way they could be tied shut with jail towels or sheets, said Zimmerly. In response to Zimmerly s request for funding for the project, the commissioners agreed to pay half the cost, with the other half coming from appropriations already made to the sheriff s budget. Zimmerly said he is thankful for the help, especially since he is in the midst of a $60,000 upgrade to the office s phone system, which in not only outdated, but lacks full compatibility with the Nexgen dispatch system. Additionally, he said, he continues to search within his budget for additional funding to purchase ballistic helmets and vests for the department s recently revived Special Response Team. In August, the Holmes County commissioners, at the request of Zimmerly, agreed to give an additional $30,000 to the department to purchase rifles and uniforms to mobilize the 13 member ... Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken What would a typical person do if they had three wishes and knew that there would be a price that they would have to pay in order for them to fulfill their wishes? This is the question that overcomes the main characters, Mr. White and Mr. Peters, in the stories The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken. In these two stories, two men were allowed to create three wishes each and had consequences that followed, therefore, they learned a valuable lesson about life. The men in the two stories were distinct in their own ways, one being very greedy and the other very cautious. In The Monkey s Paw, our main character was Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of the men were granted three wishes, however, both men were told ahead of time to be wise about their decisions. In The Monkey s Paw, Mr. White s first wish was to gain 200 pounds to pay off his mortgage (page 91). Consequently, Mr. White paid a very high price for his wish. He lost his only son, Herbert 9page 93 94). Mr. White s second wish was to bring his son back to life (page 95 96). Well, Herbert died in a machinery malfunction, so if he was to bring his son back to life, he would be distorted (page 95 96). Mr. White didn t want his son mutilated; therefore, he wished a third time. This time he wished for his son to stay dead (page 98). Due to that wish, the White couple had to live a life without their son. However, in the The Third Wish, we have a different case. In this story, Mr. Peters was very careful about his wishes. Mr. Peters first wish was to have a wife as beautiful as the forest (page 103). He got the wish, but he later realized that his wife was a swan and could not be happy as a human. His wife, whose name was Leita, did not want to leave Mr. Peters, but truly missed her swan sister (page 104). Mr. Peters, being the kind gentleman that he was, used his second wish to benefit his wife. Mr. Peters wished his wife into the swan that she was once before (page 105), Since Mr. Peters wished for his wife to be her normal self again, he had no companion. Now, ... An Ode To The User-Friendly Pencil Old school conquers new school: A personal response to An Ode to the User Friendly Pencil Technology is upgrading itself and is, perhaps, taking over the world. From virtual reality to supercomputers, people are depending more on technology in their everyday lives, but is it necessary? Technology has reached the point where Samsung phones are becoming C4 explosives and 4K televisions do not display 4K quality. In An Ode to the User Friendly Pencil by Bonnie Laing, she explains how a simple pencil that we use in our everyday lives is better than a complex computer that is technologically advanced, and through her ironic tone and economic line of reasoning, she gets that message across to her readers which I firmly agree on. In her essay, she utilizes irony to add a sarcastic tone in her essay, making the essay more enjoyable for readers to read. An example of this is the use of computer jargon to explain why the pencil is the better tool. Laing states how the software of a pencil is both cheap and simple (332) and how you can render it ... As we all know, a computer does not have human traits nor can it wrestle with the user like WWE; however, Laing is explaining how it gets more complicated the more you use a computer, and I agree with that. A computer is not smart; instead, it is the exact opposite. This is because without a user, a computer is just a sitting duck without the proper programming. It needs to be programmed to perform certain tasks or it needs a user to give it something to do in order to be useful, which is what software engineers do for a living. From taking computer science, I can tell you it is not an easy task, but rather, a hardworking one since we wrestle with the OS rather than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His famous painting of Abraham Lincoln hangs at the Capitol and he was born and raised in Homer. However, there is another native of Cortland County who has three important statues prominently displayed in Washington, D.C. Curious? His name was Clark Mills and he created the first equestrian statue in America and his life began in Taylor. Clark Mills was born in Taylor but the information available to us does not give us a definitive date. Suffice it to say that it was between 1810 and 1815. The horse appeared perfectly balanced on his hind legs and was very lifelike. It was agreed that he would be paid $12,000 to execute the statue and the bronze would be provided. It took 2 years to make the plaster cast and a lot of trial and error. A statue of this size of bronze had not been attempted in the United States to that date. The bronze was from cannons which were captured by Andrew Jackson during the second war with England. The statue was dedicated in January 8, 1853 and placed in LaFayette Square in Washington, D.C. It is still there, directly across from the White House. Congress was so pleased with the delightfully original statue that they added $20,000 to the fee which had already been paid. With the mold already made, Mills was commissioned to make the same statue to be placed in New Orleans in 1856. A third replica was ordered for Nashville, Tennessee and dedicated in 1880. Mills next project was an equestrian statue of George Washington. He was also chosen to complete Statue of Freedom which was designed by Thomas Crawford. Crawford had gotten as far as making the plaster model but had died before having the chance to cast the statue in bronze. Mills purchased land close to Washington and built a studio and a foundry to complete the orders which he had received. The Washington statue was very different from the Jackson statue and Mills was paid $50,000 to create it. The finished product was completed and dedicated in 1860 and ... • 45. Immigration Crime Rate These diagrams clearly indicate that the immigrants to the USA, do not impact crime rates. If you look at Set 1, Figure 1, you will see that while the number of immigrants are increasing, the crime rates are not increasing, they are decreasing. If you look at Set 1, Figure 2, you will see data for incarceration of immigrants from 1970 to 2007. You can see that Persons incarcerated per 100000 is growing together with Immigrants per 100000 , so no connection there. Set 3 is also similar to Set 1, but is presented in a different way. Between 1990 and 2013, according to the FBI, violet crime rate declined by 48% and the property crim rate declined by 41%. Around that period, the foreign born share of the USA population increased from 7.9% to 13.1 and the number of unauthorized immigrants increased from 3.5 million to 11.2 million. The Influences In Ambrose Bierce s Life Ambrose Bierce, a civil war veteran and famous American writer, is most known for his book the devils dictionary, in which he spoke out about the many things he disagreed with like politics and wars. Most of his stories are very influenced by the time he spent in the war. He is best known for his very cynical and sardonic outlook on human life, and was nicknamed bitter Bierce because of that. The two biggest things in Bierce s life which influenced his writing were his childhood and the civil war. Growing up Ambrose and his family lived in Meigs County, Ohio. His family was very old fashioned and religious, however Ambrose did not agree with their ways and would often rebel against them which would only result in him getting whipped, ...
