1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures.
Organisational structure
According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties
and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an
organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which
the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based
structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure.
Product based structure
In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out.
Individuals from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In
addition, there is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of
structure can block communication and cause a lack of target similarity.
The functional structure
Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by
the different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its
area of capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the
Human resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually,
someone is made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability.

Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then
leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern,
however; there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the
culture plates varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes,

Oil is very important in our world. But we should be able to come up with some alternate
methods of getting oil, or even better, alternate resources. There has already been an alternate
way to produce oil already invented. This process is known as the Fischer Tropsch process,
which converts coal into crude oil. It was a concept pioneered in Nazi Germany when imports of
petroleum were restricted due to war, and Germany found a method to extract oil from coal. It
was known as Ersatz ( substitute in German), and accounted for nearly half the total oil used in
WWII by Germany. However, the process was used only as a last resort as naturally occurring
oil was much cheaper. As crude oil prices increase, the cost of coal to oil conversion becomes
comparatively cheaper. The method involves converting high ash coal into synthetic oil in a
multistage process. Ideally, a ton of coal produces nearly 200 liters of crude, with by products
ranging from tar to rare chemicals.
The solution to America s energy problems will be found in American ingenuity, not more oil.

The appropriate court for this lawsuit depends upon several factors. Three important considerations
include the following: Personal jurisdiction which allows courts to have jurisdiction over both the
plaintiff and defendant in a case. Specific to corporations, personal jurisdiction only applies in the
state in which the company does business, is incorporated and has it principle office. In Margolin s
suit, personal jurisdictionwould not apply because although the company does business in the state

In reference to the case study, subject matter jurisdiction could possibly apply. Since Margolin

the case a stronger candidate for this type of venue.

In the beginning, God said, Let there be poverty, and there was poverty. Although this is
obviously false, poverty has been a growing problem in the United States since its founding in
1776. For centuries, presidents have been conjuring up ways to cure this ongoing headache in our
society with policies and procedures that have been either somewhat successful or a complete
failure. This year, on November 8th, Americans will choose the next candidate who will try to
defeat this problem once again. The 2016 presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald
Trump, have drastically different views on how to attack povertyin America. Trump believes in the
system of trickle down economics , while Clinton seeks to raise the federal minimum wage while
taxing the rich in order to create a more fair economy. After comparing the policies of both
candidates, I have concluded Hillary Clinton s policies will more effectively address the problem
of poverty in America.
In order to more clearly understand the severity of poverty in our nation, we must first look back
to the source of the issue. With the start of The Great Depression in the 1920s, economic
downturn was at it s worst. After the Stock Market Crash of 1929, millions of investors on Wall
Street were uprooted. This caused consumer spending to drastically decline over the next several

Bad Science Book I have learned many new things from the reading of Bad Science. I have a
few of them that I will discuss because they caught my interest. To start off, I would like to talk

Ingredients are listed with no explanation but the appearance or a scientific name adds credibility
and a sense of status to the cream. These big name ingredients are not appropriate for human use
at high doses or some of them do not do anything special. The cream companies use this
perception of scientific advancement to further sales and create an ideal image that has nothing
scientifically backing it. The basic features that a cream can be replicated at home provided

Matthew Hylton ENG 200 030 December 7, 2017 The Raven Edgar Allen Poe The Raven by
Edgar Allen Poe is a first person narrative poem that is truly a dark poem of one s sanity when
losing a loved one. The poem is eighteen stanzas long that contains 108 lines. The poem uses
many literary and poetic devices to help construct the eerie atmosphere. Poe begins the poem by
describing a setting that symbolizes darkness and death perfectly Once upon a midnight dreary
(1). Poe uses an internal rhyme to heighten the effect of the setting. He does this to foreshadow
the events that happen later on in the poem, that the reader will soon begin to understand the
dreariness of the setting. Poe is a mastermind of using these devices to draw the reader in and
help them understand the narrator on a deeper level during the reading of the poem. As stanza
one continues, Poe uses an alliteration in line 3 of the poem, While I nodded, nearly napping
(3), by using the repetition of the n sound throughout the stanza I would argue he is trying to
build suspense of the narrator answering the door. Poe uses many rhyme schemes throughout
the poem to give a bigger meaning to each word. The first stanza is no different. Poe uses many
internal rhymes in the stanza, but even uses an end rhyme in lines 2, 3, 4, and 5. He uses the
rhyme scheme ABCBBB in the first stanza. As Poe continues, the narrator begins to remember
his lost loved one Lenore . Poe begins to go darker into the poem creating an even larger
suspense, and added dramatic effect as the narrator slowly approaches the door to open it. Ah,
distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December; (6) Poe is using symbolism again to further
his dark atmosphere that he created in the first stanza. Poe is trying to get the reader to
understand the severity of the narrator s depression about Lenore . Poe in the very next line
continues his emphasis on the eeriness that is this poem s atmosphere. By describing the embers
of the fire going out, he is creating an image of darkness soon approaching. Because once the
embers go out, the light goes out. I would argue that Poe is foreshadowing even more of what will

Whenever you come to visit me in this hospital whilst i lie in this isolated, vegetative state
memories of our times together come rushing back to me.
These memories that I reminisce about are now my life, the only thing I can really, truly connect to.
I recall my favourite days in winter when the light of the day had been replaced by the unrelenting
blackness of the night, and we would sit in the little cafГ©. Sitting there with mugs of coffee
cupped between our stone cold hands, the warmth of the fire against our backs slowly warming us
up. The sweet smell of the cinnamon buns that would diffuse around us which made it difficult to
resist the temptation of eating anymore, despite the guilt we should have probably felt about the
huge amount we had already consumed.
The CafГ© that once was filled with our bursts of loud uncivilised laughter from which people
could have probably heard from outside in the pouring rain, was now from what I can imagine just
a lifeless cafГ©. There was nothing fancy about this cafГ©, no fancy furniture, no white etching
upon the glass, the feeling of just being there together and feeling as if we were away from the
loud intimidating noises of London s streets was what made this cafГ© so great.
I recall meeting in the little cafe that was not far from where we both lived every day after our long
days at work.
Whatever the circumstance both of us would be there, so we could reminisce for hours and hours
about our days of chaoticness and madness.
This was until ten years ago, the day when I didn t turn up to the cafГ©, the day my life ended
physically and yours mentally.
Now I lie here in this hospital bed, my thoughts disattached from what was my body.
I am locked inside this body which was once mine but now it is a stranger to me and I have no
control over what happens to it and when.
At first all I could feel was frustration. Frustration because I couldn t respond to you when you
would talk to me, your hand in what used to be my hand, your fingers entwined in fingers that are
now unknown to me for i now have no feeling in this body you call mine.

This paper will answer the question of why Latin American Catholics are increasingly practicing
Fringe Catholicism. Catholicism has been an essential part of Latin American identity since it was
first imposed on the indigenous people by Spanish colonial powers. The mixture of Catholicism
with indigenous religions has led to a different development of Catholicism in Latin America than in
other parts of the world. For this reason many people cite, indigenous religions as a reason why
there are many practices in Latin America that do not align with the Catholic Church. Yet, the
persistent interdependence between the two religious groups does not address the various factors
